Toprol-XL and mood swings

I have only been taking Toprol xl 50mg. for a few days, but i notice a difference already. (I take this to block migraines.) I feel out of it when i take this drug. I cannot sleep anymore! i cant fall asleep... and when i finally do, i am up a few hours later. I have been having weird dreams. (not about spiders, but other vivid, crazy dreams) Do you get used to the drug after a while and are able to sleep???? anyone know?? I have problems with anxiety and depression... and i think that lack of sleep would only add to that. I know that since i started taking toprol, i have mood swings like crazy. I will be happy and having a good time, then i will just switch and starting going off the handle. (about the littlest things too) So i ask, why do we take these drugs if we cant sleep, eat, think, have mood swings, etc???

There is an important point that everyone here is missing. I had been on Toprol XL for years, brand name. Recently, a generic version by Sandoz has been issued. It is the GENERIC metoprolol that is causing the side effects, the racing heart, etc. If you can get the doctor to write "no substitutions" on the prescription, and get the original Toprol, you will notice the difference. the problem is, health insurance wants to push the generic, so you will pay more. but it's worth it to feel better!

I am a 45 year old female & am on the Toprol-XL 50 mg & take 1 twice a day...I have noticed I have blurred vision & problems with my eyes & also suffer with my legs hurting a lot & also have joint stiffness & cramps in my feet & legs & have trouble sleeping & some memory problems at times along with feeling tired all the time & some depression & shortness of breath & no matter how little I eat I seem to put on weight & look & feel bloated...don't know if it's the Toprol-XL or not but have only had these problems since I been on that & Crestor.

IVE BEEN TAKING TOPROL FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS AND DOING JUST FINE UNTIL UP ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I STARTED HAVING PANIC ATTACKS, SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND SOME TERRIBLE MOOD SWINGS,,, OH YEAH . AND WEIGHT GAIN CAN ANYBODY HELP?

Help, I have been on Toprol XL 25 mg for about 4 months, I had to argue with the heart Dr. about the side effects, I told him I was having shortness of breath and that I was blotted and am gaining weight, my mood swings are awful, I cut my own self down, and now this week I just stopped taking them at all, is this wise to do? this pill is a nightmare, what can be done about such dangerous meds?

Multiple side effects from low dose of toprol. Severe depression and mood swings, panic attacks, tired all the time, brain fog, dry mouth. I have been reducing my dose gradually. Things are improving. This is a bad drug!

I have been on Tp xl 50 mg for 6 years. I have had several issues through the years that I never thought the Tp was affecting. My throat has been sore for a year, I am tired alllll the time, moody and even worse at that time of the month, my left shouder has hurt for years and I never associated it with my meds, until now. I have NO SEX drive at all, poor hubby. My BP is good however when working out, Cardio my heart rate stays at 95. I have gained a 100 lbs in the 6 years I have been on TP and I am very moody. I never can finish sentence because I am always trying to come up with words to fill my sentences. Still I never thought this was cause of Tp. The only thing I blamed my TP on was weight gain, mood swings. Know I can associate alot more with my meds. Thanks for the reading material.

I have been on Toprol for about 3 months. Since then I have gained about 10 pounds, am tired all the time, have mood swings, and have lost all motivation, and have other annoying side effects. My blood pressure is down as well as my heart rate, but is it worth living like a zombie?

I've been on several medications for my heart including Toprol. I've begun checking side effects on all to see which one may cause sleeplessness. I've been experience shortened sleep patterns, awakening in the early hours around 2:30am and unable to go back to sleep. I attributed this to external factors until recently when I missed all my medications for several days in a row and noticed I slept the nights through. I do have most of the other side effects mentioned, fatigue, lightheadedness, mood swings and memory problems. I also take Niaspan and Zetia.

I am 51 male diagnosed with an atrial flutter and fib 6 months ago. After an ablation and medication regimin that consists of Toprol @ 100mg/daily , and Flecanide 150MG twice daily I now have a consistant pulse rate. Not as fatiquied and forgetful as before when pulse rate raced to 180 at times. Current resting pules id below 80 and I too have has weight gain of 10 lbs over 6 months. Mood swings and deoression are helped by daily Zoloft 100 mg, excercise, and planned rest.

I take 50 mg of Toporal daily. Since May 1st, I have been admitted to the ER 3 times for Heart attack like chest pain. After reading others problems, I truly sympathize. Metalic taste, severe chest pain, mood swings, always tired. My doctor has taken me off of Lipitor as the answer for the above symptoms. Guess who I'm calling the first thing in the morning!

i have been taking Toprol 50mg for 2 months, and definitely notice the mood swings, irratibility and anger have escalated. Called the Doc, who said, "yes, that could be a side effect of the Toprol". and then suggested that i cut the dose in half and take only once a day not twice a day as had been previosly prescribed. I've noticed in the last 3 days, less angry, or more able to handle my life.

I have been on Toprol for 6 months have gained 30 lbs, sore muscle,REAL bad headaches,mood swings and low sex drive. I am 40 years old and feel like I a 90. I am on the lowest 25mg I want to get off this. Please help

38 year old female, starting toprol xl 50 daily six months ago. After the first few days went down to 25 daily due to chest pain, migraine, mood swings.

Currently hoping to go off med - was prescibed it for palps, mvp, migraines, and anxiety.

I have gained weight and inlisted the help of a personal trainer 6 weeks ago - has helped but the weight won't come off.

I feel tired, nightmares occasionally, slightly depressed, moody, and lack of short term memory is effecting my job performance. I hope to get off this drug soon too.

I have taken BP meds for about 20 years and never experienced this effect ever. In the last year a new Doctor because of insurance purposes change my meds to Toprol from Diovan. He increased and decreased several times and then had me stop,cold turkey. Which I should have never done. My hair fell out and I experienced mood swings, chest pains, and numerous other side effects. I have since went to another Doctor and have been regulated. I went from 180mg of toprol to only taking 10mg of Altace now. Thank goodness I found out in time.

I am 30 an just started taking toprol for high blood pressure 10 day ago. The first night i took it I almost pasted out. I thought it was just my bp changing. 3 days later i almost pasted out again and immediatly went to my family doctor. when i got there my bp was 203/130 the highest it had ever been. Of course they gave me more toprol. which did correct the high bp. I am having bad nightmares and mood swings. Dizziness, stomach grumbling, and zombie like feelings. I am going to stop taking it.
