Singulair and postings

Well, after reading all of the postings here, I feel like I just dodged a major bullet! I took Singulair for a little less than a week in combination with a couple of other meds to get a bout of uncontrolled asthma reined in. All was well for 4 or 5 days and then suddenly I began to itch like crazy - I had a massive outbreak of hives (and this was while taking Prednisone, which is used to TREAT hives). Well, long story short, the doctor felt that it was most likely the Singulair and told me to stop taking it. I did and did not have another outbreak of hives. Now I'm actually rather thankful to have gotten the hives if it meant getting me off this medication before it could cause more serious issues!

My husband has been taking Singulair for the last two years. It has made a tremendous difference in his frequency of sinusitis in the winter and allergy symptoms during the summer and fall seasons. For at least the last year, he's been having trouble with insomnia, so he is taking Melatonin. This helps but last night something very new happened. We went to bed around 11:15 p.m., then at 12:45 he woke me up and said he was having trouble breathing. He was very agitated and paced around the room, would sit for a few minutes, then get up again, pace and act very agitated. We've been married for 26 years and this is not normal. We almost went to the emergency room but decided to wait. This morning he's tired and very quiet. From reading the other postings, I think that Singulair could be causing the insomnia and now the agitation and depression.

My ADOPTED son almost 6 and was already on Singulair when he came to live with us at age 20mos.
After finding this site just over 2 weeks ago, I took him off on this stuff. Well, after about a week, things were so good that it was scary. His behavior improved so much, that everyone said he doesn't act like Jacob. I said, yes he does, we just didn't know him before going on this med.
He is currently going thru ADHD evaluation and I advised the therapist that I took him off this drug and he was like a new child. Her comment was "did we cure him"? Well, after her one on one with him, she commented, I don't know whats wrong, but he is extremely HYPER and then all hell broke loose on the way home. But, he has been fine since.
I am praying that I don't have to medicate him for ADHD, I am just not ready for that and have been fighting it for a while and then after reading all the side effects on this site, it described my child to a tee. He is in Kindergarten and is doing great academically and the therapist was a bit surprised by that with how hyer he is.
Please tell me with how long my son has been on this drug, that it's going take more than a couple of weeks. He is not near as hyper to us as he was before. Maybe he just got excited about all the toys in her office. He can also be very defiant, that is whole other issue we are dealing with. He does way better for his Dad than Me, so now if he doesn't want to listen to me, he Dad intervenes. I am hoping he will get it, that he can't be disrespectful to his Mom or he will have his Dad to deal with.

I'm wondering if some of you could explain how the leg pain was. My 20 month old has been on Singulair for 2 months for ?asthma (he's has bronchiolitis once and pneumonia 2x since he was 6 months old and a chronic cough). His medication "regime" in working great-absolutely no cough in 2 months from a child who I started to think coughing was normal for this age. 3 weeks ago we were driving in the car and he started grabbing his right leg say "ooww, boo boo". and now in the last 2 weeks we have had 3 times where he holds his right leg crying in pain and will not walk, will not stand on his leg. One time lasted for about 2+ hours-he went to bed like that and woke up fine, jumping in his crib. 2nd and 3rd time it lasted about 1 hour and then he was fine completely back to himself. We had him seen but decline xrays and to just watch it for now. The MD said it could be a virus in his knee. I asked about side effects to med and she doubted it. But I started reading and now I'm suspicious. The weird thing is that it comes on strong and goes away just as easily. Wondering if anyone else could describe their leg pain in more detail. Thanks!

Everyone should go to 2004 postings for a reality check. It blows my mind that people were reporting disturbing behaviors/moods in their children in 2004 and we're still talking about it in 2008. Where's the oversight?

I am a mom of twin boys who are 3 1/2. They were 9 weeks premature so we battled RSV for the first two years of their life. Allergies are also an issue therefore, they were put on Singulair at 10 months old. It really seemed to work for them and things seemed to be going okay but once they turned 1 1/2, their behavior started to change. They were constantly throwing toys at each other, sippy cups at people across the room, screaming for no reason, etc. Some may say it was normal behavior for little toddlers. Then the "terrible two's" set in. They started biting, pushing, screaming over anyone who talks to get attention, not listening and for two kids that slept through the night....all of a sudden that stopped too! My husband and I mentioned it to the pediatrician and also tried to going through the state (developmental clinic because of being premature) thinking that we would get some answers and everyone seemed to think it is a combination of their age and the fact there are two of them....sibling rivalry. We now deal with two kids that use to sleep through the night, now end up in our bed every night to fall asleep because they don't like their room and their erratic behavior is stressing my husband and myself out. When they are good, they are great but when it gets bad....it is a nightmare! I even find it hard to get people to watch the kids because they are too much to handle! After reading these postings I realize I am not the only one with kids going through this and that the common link is SINGULAIR! I am not giving this to my boys ever again and I already put a call into the pediatrician to discuss my findings. I have a sense of relief to know that it is not only my children who's behavior is like this but I am scared because I pray that there is not any long term effects that can not be corrected once this drug is out of their system. I just want my boys to be healthy and okay!

My 5 1/2 year old son began taking 4mg Singulair in the p.m. and an inhaler (asmanex) in the a.m. We were still having trouble controlling the asthma and his Sing dose was raised to 5mg. & within 1 week of the increase he began having terrible facial tics and aggravated behavior (defiant, poor listening, easily frustrated and angered) The tics were in the form of opening and closing his mouth, as if you were trying to clear your clogged ears after a plane flight. This caused him much pain in his jaws and facial muscles, so he would tic and then cry as he was in pain. This ramped up his anxiety and it made the ticking worse. He has been off of all asthma medication (cold turkey) for 5 full days. He has episodes where the tics happen for 10 min -1/2 hr, other times during the day it is one here and one there. He does not want to leave the house to do anything, even his favorite activities. Thank god I found this site (and others like it), as I got some answers and some hope. We went to see my cousin this week who is a neurologist and he never heard of the correlation of Singulair and neurologic side effects like these. He said that (hopefully) the medication side effects will cycle through and resolve the ticking and behavioral changes. If not we are probably looking at a Tic Disorder which is in the Tourettes Family.He put my son on a very low dose of Klonopin to mellow out his anxiety and help reduce the tics, but has only been on it for 1 1/2 days and it usually takes a wk or 2 for full absorption and results.I have since sent him and my pediatrician and allergist links to this site and others. I think that I see some improvement in my son, yesterday I thought he did better and my husband thought it was a worse day, I think we have totally lost our perspective and objectivity on this. If anyone out there has a time frame on when they saw significant recovery and positive changes I would love to hear from you. This is a total nightmare and if it is this drug, someone is going to pay. My prayers go out to all who are going thru this.

My 10 year old daughter has been on Singulair for 5 years- I am in shock of all these postings! I logged on because someone mentioned the possibility of weight gain as a side effect. Has anyone experienced that?

I have a 26-month old grandson who has been on Singulair for "27 DAYS". His pediatrician knows that his immune system is already compromised due to some developmental delays. However, before he started taking his Singulair he was a very happy, funny and loving child. Within 2 weeks on this medicine we started to notice a few changes in him. He started waking up at night "screaming" and he has been sleeping through the night for at least a year now. And when his mother would go in to get him out of his crib, he would be so frightened and afraid to leave her side. It would take her a very long time to settle him down and put him back down for the night. At the same time, he started not wanting to drink his normal daily glasses of milk or eat his regular meals. He was simply a mess most of the day and would fuss, cry, bang his head and we were having a very hard time trying to figure out what was wrong with him. He is not yet talking due to his delayed speech, so he could not tell us what was going on. Yesterday, I told my daughter let's look at the side effects of Singulair since it was the only thing that had changed within the last few months. When I found this site, I could not believe what the parents/grandparents were saying about their children on this drug. We immediately took him off Singulair. This will be his second day without being on the drug. According to my pharmacist, it will take approximately 50 hours for it to get out of his little system. The pharmacist had not heard the latest that aired on the TV station, so she asked me to call her back in a few days to tell her how my grandson is doing. Parents should be able to trust the medications that are prescribed by their Pediatricians, especially at such young ages. My daughter is REALLY UPSET and has a call into my grandson's doctor. Thank God I found this website. I simply searched on "side effects of Singulair in children" and this site came up. I do believe the Lord is watching over my grandson. Thanks.

POLL: If you or your child have been adversely affected by Singulair could you please reply to this and let me know what ethnicity you are and skin tone. (fair, med., dark, etc.) I'm interested in the demographics of this drugs effects.

My son has been on singulair for the past 6 to 8 months and my husband and i have had a very difficult time with him and his behavior. We have noticed him being very angry, mad, sad, screaming out for no reason, very defiant and not listening. He has been making threats to me for a while now, saying he wants to kill me, but only to me, his mother. He has become physically violent to himself and household items and me at times. He has night terrors and screams out at least 6 nights out of the week. He has bad headaches and often doesn't feel good. His stomach bothers him a lot. He makes constant threats to me and seems to not be able o handle the simplest task. I will not be giving my son this medication ever again after reading on this site. My son has suffered long enough as have we, his family. I want my loving sweet baby boy back! It makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with our society that they would continue to prescribe this medication knowing the horrible affects that our children endure. Shame on you! You deserve more than a slap on the hand! You should have your licensed stripped and e put out of business!

What is so frustrating here as we read more and more new posts of what we know to be the devasting effects of this drug,is that the label has been updated voluntarily by Merck 4 times this tear to include these side effects,leading you to believe they know the possibility of this happening,and yet doctors continue to dismiss this,making us feel like our parenting skills are less than pristine or our children have some kind of psych label as kids that are well just not normal,when the evidence is there even by Mercks own admission.What in heavens name will it take to get the medical community to understand,they continue to pass it out like candy,and then when you speak of an adverse effect they blame it on something else, Wake up our children our being poisoned in huge numbers

I've posted before about the horrible effects this med has had on my daughter. Two months off and she's doing much better.
I received emails from ****** published by web md, it gives reent ifo in the world of medicine, recent studies etc. I just received one and there was an article comparing the long term side effects of varios asthma treatments for children. Of course singular was one of the meds mentiones. Think it said anything about the real side effect, of course not, only focus was on it's ability to control asthma. It makes me so mad, this article doesn't give any indications that doctors shouldn't prescribe it to kids.

Here is an example of the fact that the medical community recognizes that there are gene based drugs. Because Singulair is modeled to be a receptor antagonist to the cysLT1 receptor and the cysLT1 receptor is a gene, I'd say that Singulair should be described as a gene based drug. I don't really care how anybody wants to play with the definition. CysLT1 is a gene with known variations. Why isn't there just an "across the board" warning for all gene based drugs that unexpected side effects are possible???? And, that doctors should watch out for individual reactions.

My son is 6 years old and he has been on and off Singulair for about 2 years. He was off since last Fall 2007, but was put back on in April 2008 for allergies. He began telling me that he was having "dreams" during the day. He would then tell me these totally bizarre thoughts, "dreams" that he was having. They were very strange and perverted and violent. I asked him why he was saying this stuff and he said, "I just can't help it, they pop into my mind." I thought that he was going through a phase because he was bored. He is in 1/2 day kindergarten and I attributed this to too much television and boredom. I was thinking that someone was feeding him this crazy information (kids on bus, class, etc.) and he was repeating it to me. He was too showing OCD symptoms, afraid if he touched his feet- "is that dirty??" afraid if he touched someone's hand, "is that dirty if I touched Tim's hand?" He would also cry and whine often over the simplest things. I thought this was a phase. Our prescription for Singulair ran out and I did not fill. I started noticing a change over a week's time period. My little boy who was coming to me several times a day with bizarre "dreams" had not mentioned them at all. His compulsive behavior has stopped and so has the whining. I feel lucky that I did not fill the prescription because I would not have even thought it was the singular, since there are no side effects like the one's I mentioned above on the label. I am sick about this!!

My 54-year-old fit, social, successful husband was put on Singulair in January for newly diagnosed asthma. He developed a depression with anxiety, irrational fears, avoidance, mood swings and even one episode of suicidal thoughts out of nowhere. He saw a psychiatrist and a therapist, tried medications, yoga, a vacation, meditation, breathing exercises - everything! But he kept getting worse.

The day he was throwing patio furniture then sobbing uncontrollably was the day he realized he couldn't work in his condition. He negotiated a 60-day leave without pay. Even that didn't help. It was crazy. How could a man who managed hundreds of employees and a major health service system for 20 years suddenly be so paralyzed with fear that he couldn't walk down a beach or go into a Walgreen’s?

We found this site May 26th. He stopped the Singulair immediately. It has been 10 days and he is already 80-90% back to normal. Thank God.

Partly I am writing because it is so hard to read of parents' guilt that they "should have known" etc. Look, unlike a child, my husband is mature and very verbal; he is also a psychiatrist (!) with a capacity for self-examination and a language to describe his inner experience. And me, I'm a psychologist (!) trained in understanding people and I know him very well. And yet with all that training and skill and consultation and treatment, WE STILL COULDN’T FIGURE THIS OUT! So please, don't make yourself feel any worse with guilt. This is awful and tragic enough already.

I would add that the onset of mood and behavioral problems is so insidious that it is hard to connect the problems to the Singulair. Also, I suspect that children and adolescents are at greater risk because of their immature emotional developmental level. An adult l suspect may need some genetic or personal predisposition to mood disturbance, or stress, or both, to trigger these side effects. My husband had a depression episode 30 years ago and had recent traumas that certainly could have triggered the depression. But how treatment resistant that depression was, and those strange paralyzing fears and extreme anxiety – all that I blame squarely on the Singulair.

I have made a report to the FDA. I urge you to do the same.

Clinical trial of montelukast in the Netherlands.

I noticed two things:

1. The researcher states that sides effects are 10%.
2. The researcher will not allow patients to also take drugs which are metabolized by CYP2C8 because montelukast inhibits that as proved by in vitro (test tube) studies. American studies in vitro said yes montelukast is an inhibitor but in vivo (in people) that it didn't happen. I was always confused by that and would still like to know more

Reading these postings have brought me some comfort. At least I know it is not all in my head and that Mothers Intuition is still a strong powerful gift! My 4 and 6 year old were given Singulair. My 4 year old daughter came down with her first ever case of swollen glands. She could not eat any food and spent the next 2 months drinking from a straw. All tests came back negative, antibiotics didn't work, steriods didn't work and the ENT said I should remove her tonsils. After 2 months of being on all kinds of meds and her steriod treatment was done I decided to take her off Singulair. I just thought her body should be drug free for awhile! Within 2 days she was completely "healed". I will never give her Singulair again.

My son is 7 and I have just decided to stop his treatment of Singulair also. He has constant complaints of belly aches, grey stool, trouble sleeping and sudden tears. I just thought it was stress with school work, peers, etc. but I don't think so anymore. We seem to try to "understand" why our kids are having certain stress like symptoms but I think we need to look at our medicine cabinets first. They are small people on strong meds and I just don't think their systems can handle it. I think I am going to visit a nutritionist not pediatrician the next time I need help!

hi, im not sure what to do. my 3 1/2 year old daughter was today given the prescription for singulair. i voiced my concerns to the doctor after my friend telling me its no good due to the side effects.she said that there are risks and side effects with any drug you take but for some reason i don't feel right about this. don't doctors know better than this. anyway Would like to know if all the people who take singulair suffer some sort of side affects or is it minimal? or going by this side it looks like its probably best not to give it to her at all.

My daughter, just turned 3, was put on Singulair this past January for allergies. She had chronic runny nose, sinusitis, coughing, often leading to infections. The allergist put her on Singulair combined with Hydroxyzine every night. Now that I have read these postings, I recall that we had one really disturbing episode with her, although I can't now recall exactly how long after starting the drugs. Like some others have described, she woke in the night, seemingly terrified and at the same time in extreme pain. We could not find any way to soothe her or relieve her pain - she simply fought and flipped around, alternately reaching for us and kicking us away while screaming and crying and writhing on the bed. After a time, maybe half an hour, it seemed to just pass and she finally went back to sleep. But then we endured a couple of months of repeated wakings at night, sometimes when she was restless for an hour or more, sometimes upset. She might wake 3, 4, or 5 times in one night.

Lately I have become concerned about her increasingly aggressive behavior towards us, but recently towards others. And I am also very concerned about her physical growth. She is 41" and over 40 pounds and turned 3 a week ago. I am now buying her size 5T clothes. I have finally gotten proactive (why did I wait??!) and consulted with her ped., who has agreed that we should screen her for anything we can. My daughter has been diagnosed with developmental delays (pre-Singulair) and is in a preschool with similar kids. We have been dealing with behavior issues for the last year, and I am astounded that an allergist would put her on Singulair with the current controversy about it's side effects. I took her off it immediately as soon as I found out there were negative reports - thankfully our experience has not been as extreme as many others. But I feel ill at what could have happened! I am now praying that she has not suffered any irreversible damage...

I have a three year old son who has severe allergies. He's been taking singulair for 2 years on & off just in the allergy season. He started taking, singulair again in the beginning of April. One morning he woke up and both eyes were really swollen and red, I called his doctor's office and told them i thought he had pink eye, after 2 different drops and no change I brought him into the doctor's to see if it could be his allergies, and they agreed and started him on Zyrtec. I still was not impressed with the results so i brought him back yet again to see if we could see a specialist. Instead they put him on nasonex to try.
In the beginning of March I started to see a change in my usual happy fun loving son. He was scared to sleep in his bed, waking up in the middle of the night from bad dreams, uncontrollable screaming fits that would last up to an hour, saying he wants a Boo Boo. At first we thought it could be jealously over his new brother, or maybe something at his school.
Then i found this website and everything clicked, how scary it must be for a child to have these horrible thoughts and not be able to understand or stop them. What are the people at merck thinking??
Can any one tell me when the symptoms stop. He's been off for a week and we see some improvements. But he still has these fits with almost an OCD tendency to them (mainly when he's overtired), stomach pains, lack of appetite.

This is a follow-up. I have posted about our experience before, but to summarize: 6 year old boy on Singulair for over three years for Asthma. Drug worked wonders, but side effects developed so slowly that we thought those were "phases" that would go away. Side effects were just as everyone else reported: nightmares, fears, depression/sadness (we even went to a child psychologist since we thought this behavior was all due to father's deployment), aggressiveness, crying at the drop off a hat (like a 2 year old, not age appropriate), attention deficit, school performance dropped, and also, at the very end, obsessive compulsive behavior.
We stopped Singulair as soon as we heard about the FDA investigation (on NPR, about 6 to 7 weeks ago). Asthma has not worsened, thank goodness, so we make due with the Flovent for now. Most of the side effects were less prominent after some time, however the obsessive compulsive behavior stopped only a few days ago. We have better days, we have worse days, but slowly the better days outnumber the bad, aggressive, and negative ways.
What I read again and again in the postings is that we all assumed our children entered a bad "phase." A phase that just got worse and never ended!
Reading about the very same side effects in our children, over and over again, alarmed me. Taking my son off the Singulair and seeing the improvements, some faster some slower, totally convinced me. I will never ever have Singulair in my house again.

My son age 3 was diagnosed with asthma about a year ago. Since then he has been sick constantly. Most recently his doctor has prescribed Singulair. He is aggressively pushing it on us. I stated my concerns to him, and he said there is nothing wrong with the drug.. he gets all the news letters.. and all the things I listed was the first time he heard anything.. I asked for his to refer us to a specialist and he wont.. I cant find anyone for a second opinion..My son needs medicine- at night i cant leave his side cause of his breathing.. The doctor wont suggest any alternate and I am stuck. I keep reading about all the people who are not taking singulair anymore- what what are they taking? I am completely lost here!

I am not a 100% sure the experience I had was due to Singulair but it appears to be. Singulair was prescribed to me for "walking pnemonia". After a couple of days on the medications I was taking, I started experiencing pain in my knees and muscles in my lower legs. My left leg was worse than my right. After 3 days, I could barely walk and the pain was severe. I forgot to take my medicine one day and the next day my knees were much better and had less pain. I just thought I was getting better but the next day when I started the medicine again, the pain came back. I remembered when my son was on Accutane he had similar knee and leg pain because of the dryness caused by Accutane. So I kept taking the antibiotic I was on and stopped the Singulair. The next day I felt much better. On the second day I hardly had any pain at all. I was curious if anyone else had this type of side effect. Most of the postings I have seen have dealt more with depression in teenagers. I am 55.

I failed to mention this in my previous postings.My 7yr.old ,who had been on singuliar for along time,had been having chronic stomach pains.Since being off,I noticed a drastic change in her stools.They went from grayish in color, back to the normal brown.Previously ,to going off Singuliar,blood work had been done to find the cause of the pain.Her blood counts were fine,but her cholesterol was high(266).High for a 7 yr.old who eats a balanced diet.I'm meeting with her doctor tomorrow to discuss many Singulair issues with him.I will have her cholesterol checked in the near future.Waiting for Singuliar to be out of her system awhile before having test done.

Thank you Massmomof3 for updating us. I noticed postings started on here as far back as 2003. Is there anyone that posted back then that still visits this board. Would love to hear your updates.

I discovered this site last Wednesday morning - without taking the time to list all of the grief I felt reading through the pediatric postings, I will briefly note my 4 year old daughter has been on Singulair for 2 years now. What I now realize is all the behavior issues, night screaming, etc. are so easily dismissed as stages of a toddler. She has suffered (as well as our family) every symptom and behavior listed by parents on this site with the exception of leg cramps.

Our entire family can see the dramatic results since taking her last pill last Tuesday night. The melt downs and tantrums are all but over, she even commented "hey, I listened right away" on the second day without Singulair. She is still having night terrors - I call them that because they are in no way a dream or nightmare, but rather agonizing moments that break our hearts to hear. I hope those will soon go away as well so her sleep pattern results in a restful night.

Am I angry that we have all suffered for 2 years only to find we have been basically poisoning her? Am I angry that for the 2 years her dad and I have sunk pretty low, feeling inadequate as a parent to teach and discipline our child? Am I angry that after 20 years of marriage, raising a great 16 year old in the midst of all this, we were to the point of the ADD, bipolar, etc. theory that would have been misdiagnosed? Heck no, we are all so thankful to have come across this site and are so giddy and excited to be happy again.

What I am angry about is this - when I called our pediatrician last Wednesday and relayed what I had seen on the Merck website for side effects added in recent months she had not heard this information and asked where I saw it. At that point I had not seen this site. I asked her how is it the well dressed pharmaceutical reps come in with doughnuts, exotic trips, etc. to market a drug with "ABC" treatments and "XYZ" side effects, continue to market the drug and never update the doctors when original selling points are altered - ie; new side effects.

The FDA website is troubling for two reasons: Merck is in charge of their own investigation regarding recent complaints and the FDA expects this to take 9 months. Gee, who gets to investigate themself? Secondly, in February the site notes the FDA and Merck are trying to find the best way to communicate the concerns being investigated to prescribes and patients. HELLO - we live in a world of real time, instant communication methods, two examples being the United States Postal Service and an internet connection.

Today is April 30 - a full two months after "trying to decide how to pass this information on" and my doctor, nor my pharmacist have received any information. Apparantly since we missed the story and coverage on Dateline we are out of luck.

I plan to start from ground zero to get our voices heard to change the way, or the law if you will, to implement an immediate communication link between the FDA and prescribes when an investigation such as this has been initiated. I realize Singulair has most likely benefited more humans than it has destroyed while on the drug and the FDA would have to clearly not communicate "panic". However, when a drug is used for pediatric treatments we need information quickly to assess on behalf of our children. In my case, since my daughter had been on the drug since 2 years old, I do not know what her "normal behavior" should be as that is the age they start to develop and show personality. Additionally, when enclosed prescribing information is updated with a prescription -MARK IT IN RED, "UPDATED INFORMATION". I read every ounce of information that accompanies a new prescription for any family member. I would NOT, however read the information every 30 days for an ongoing, long term prescription over the course of 2 years.

I am looking for anyone that may have started contact with a congressional representative or otherwise to change the communication to our doctors. Please note - I am in no way interested in any legal action regarding Singulair and our nightmare. We are moving forward and do not wish to live the nightmare one moment more. I simply want to see our doctors and pharmacists have vital information as it happens.

Andy by the way, by telling one of my long time friends our amazing discovery, she realized she had been suffering from depression for some time and chalked it up to various things going on in her life. She had her last Singulair last week and feels tremendous! So keep the word going!

My son has been on Singulair now 5 years and I am in the middle of fighting to get him off. My son is now 7 years old and has been diagnosed with allergies (no test have been done which I find very odd), which leads to a case of mild asthma. This past weekend his mother forgot his Singular on Friday so I could not give him any till the next day, where we met at his soccer game. Saturday night I gave him his usual pill and thankfully due to his exhaustion from playing out side all day he went to sleep in 10 min. vs 3 hrs later which is the norm since Singulair seems to jack him up.
He also has red puffiness under his eyes - most likely allergies.
Seems depressed - just driving down the road and I look at him in the rear view mirror and he just sits and stares into space. When I ask what's wrong he either says nothing or I am tired.
He will try to tell a story or think for himself and just stops mid sentence and says " never mind I am just confused"
He will be having fun one moment and just starts crying or gets depressed.
He was throwing a ball in the house (yes I know) and accidentally knocked a glass over breaking it - he went running to his room, crawled under his bed and sobbed profusely for over 30 min.
He has a hard time doing / focusing on homework - becomes bored very easily.
Does not want to go outside. I will take him to allot of cultural events/ hands on or participation events - he will not try anything. He is unsure and will not come out of his box so to speak.
I spoke with his doctor who was reluctant to take him off, but then agreed that if it was OK with the ex, to take him off for a week to see what happens.
The fun part: My ex is convinced that since he has been on Singulair for 5 years he is fine and does not need to come off it.

1.) Son is diagnosed with mild asthma or allergy induced asthma.
He has never had an allergy test done and has not had a lung function test in over a year.

2.) It is documented that our son has four outbreaks a year. (sounds like the changing of the seasons) but is given Singulair all year round and the dosage has also been increased.

3.) Since the court order, ordered my ex to enroll our son in sports (she would not let him play anything) he does not wheeze or cough uncontrollably.

4.) Since I had to battle to get our son on my insurance I have cut her control issues off a little, but she is refusing to take him off Singular just for a week to see how he reacts. Although I do agree that he should have some form of allergies medicine.

5.) When I found out about the side effects of Singulair, I also found that his doctor was getting ready to add two other allergy medicines to his portfolio - totaling 3 different meds.

I see our sons behavior getting worse and I watch him turn into something he is not and with a controlling individual not believing anything about the side effects it looks like I will have to rely on the medical system to prove my point. I do believe he needs to be accurately tested for allergies and given a regularly lung function test but most of all since he is now on my insurance, a second opinion and a 3rd to narrow down what the situation is and an alternative medical procedure that is fit for the symptoms.

I am a 57 year old man, who has been suffering from asthma several years. This spring my doctor put me on Singulair as an additional medicine to my cortisone-inhalator. after one month I feel symptoms of depression an mood-changing, severe ups and downs.
AND - as an additional symptom i have partially lost my feeling in some fingertips, and now parts of my left thumb and even a feeling of "cold2, mostly in my left hand.

Is there a potential explanation for the adverse psychiatric side effects of montelukast?

In my opinion, there are at least some very good clues based upon the work of the Chinese researchers.

A 2006 report indicated that they had localized (meaning found it was there) the CystLT1 receptor (same as the receptor that montelukast
Singulair blocks) in the neurons of the brain tissue of rats. In order to do that, they injected rat brain's with NMDA to cause a chemically induced state of excitotoxicity. Excitotoxicity is a common factor in Central Nervous System disease. They concluded that both 5-LOX and CystLT1 were upregulated by the excitotoxicity that they artificially created
with the NMDA. Therefore, there would be a potential link between neuron activity and CystLT1. Nerve cells are damaged by excitotoxicity. These researchers used NMDA to cause nerve damage which caused the CystLT1 to show up. NMDA was often used in human behavior studies to cause brain damage. They would then try to observe whether behavior was compromised to conclude what areas of the brain determined what behavioral response.

So I was thinking about the Chinese researchers as I was reading other posts. One post interested me particularly regarding the mother who described behavior that seemed like hypoglycemics when their snack doesn't arrive on time. So a light bulb went on. Glutamate, another excitotoxin, can build up in the brain to a level that is damaging if humans become excessively hypoglycemic. If glutamate concentration around the synaptic cleft reaches too high a level then neurons die. Clinically, it really does seem that many people experience things that sound like the effects of hypoglycemia. It could be only a coincidence. But then again, maybe not.

The Chinese researchers found the CystLT1 receptor in the rat brain neuron after brain damage. They found the CystLT1 receptor in the normal human brain in the microvascular endothelial cells and in neuron and glial-appearing cells in brain trauma or tumors.

What role does the CystLT1 play in brain function? If it exists in brain tissue, we can assume that it does have a function. If it plays a role in preventing or repairing neuron damage due to excitotoxins, then there would be a very direct link between Singulair and adverse psychiatric side effects.

The bottom line is that Merck owes people who take Singulair further research regarding it's effect on the brain.

My M.D had prescribed Singulair approximately 3 months ago. I was extremely hesitant to take it and did research online before i made my final decision. I am/was fortunate not to have many of the side effects as stated in the other postings. Upon filing the second refill, I noticed I was putting on weight. My eating habits and daily routine has not changed prior to taking Singular or during taking the course of taking the pill. I started to become very concerned and I too found this site. I can tell you for a fact, that there is a very definite side effect of weight gain. I have gained weight all over my body, not only limited to the stomach area. As a result, I too, will NOT continue taking this pill, not only because of the weight gain, but in addition to the fact that my allergies are still bothering me. I am going to try Zyrtec, which is now an over- the -counter allergy pill. Zyrtec, until last year, was by prescription only. In final, to all those that are complaining of weight gain and various serious side effects, you are not crazy, The symptoms you are experiencing are real. Good luck to all of you.

I am so glad that I found this page. My son is 7 and has been taking Singulair for a little over a year. I thought his behavioral issue and personality changes were from things that little kids go through. I kept putting it off as it is just a phase. He also for the last 9-10 months has been tired, weak, tummy pain, head ache, vomiting. I took him to the doctor and she did blood work on him to make sure that he didn't have anything serious. Everything came back fine. So I found this site over the weekend and I told my nurse about it. She said take him off it and see what happens. He was on it to help inflammation that caused severe ear pain. Next week he goes to see an ENT. I feel like I have been poisoning my child. I so hope that he returns to the fun, loving child he once was!!! How long does it take to get out of their system, does anyone know? Thanks for all the postings I am so glad I found this!!!!

My son is three and a half and has been taking singulair for a little over two years. But only when his seasonal asthma flares up or when I know it is that time of year that he has problems. While taking singulair he has always complained of headaches, stomach and leg pains, and of course it never occured to me that it could be a perscribed medication. However after hearing the affect it had on another little girl and that leading me to research it to find all of these postings from other parents. What really brought on the investigation is the last week. My sweet little boy turned into a monster. He kicked, hit, screamed, pinched, bit, scratched or anything he could do to physically hurt you. We were all freaked out by this because he is such a sweet, gentle little boy, one of his teachers made every excuse she could think of. Because this was not in his character at all, then of he did it to her. She described it as a switch going off inside him. I believe he was also hallucinating, he told me someone told him to do it. This is by far the most scary thing I have ever been through and will never give my son singulair again. Further more I am going to pass this information along to all my friends and family and hope and pray that it makes is to everyone so this madness this perscription medication causes.

My 6 year old son has been on Singulair for 2 years and I have noticed a big change in his behavior but it all started with leg cramps and falling down alot..I told my dr about what was going on but she told me that it was nothing to worry about that it is growing pains..Before he started the on the singulair he was always a happy go lucky kid never had problems with him back talking or ever really getting angry. Now that I read all these reports these are the problems I have with him now:
My child has never offered to hit, kick or slap me but in the past year he has gotten more aggressive not only toward me but others as well..
He is fearful of people now thinking that they are being mean to him or picking him out to pick on or make fun of.
He has problems of headaches on a regular basis but just thought it was due to his sinus infections...
I have also noticed that my child has started hurting himself like punching even slapping himself in the face when he gets really angery or fustrated about things..
Sometimes he has problems with nightmares but not that much..
He also has problems with stomach pain as well...
My concern is taking my son off Singulair with his asthma being under control right now and he just recently had sinus surgery but I think it will be the best thing for him just because I want my sweet child back not the aggressive and abusive child he is now.... That is why first thing in the morning he will be taking him to his dr to find another medication to put him on and take him off the Singulair....

I noticed a lot of postings about weight gain on Singulair, which is nowhere listed by Merck as a possible side effect. My 15 y.o. daughter experienced sudden weight gain at the age of 9 when she was actually underweight (BMI went from 17 to 21). To make a long story short, after being off Singulair for over a year, she is now over-weight, and diet/exercise have never made a big difference (gymnastics, swim team, figure skating, trampoline, etc.) Extensive labwork is always normal & there is no family history of obesity. It's a shame the quality of life of a child is RUINED by a drug that is deemed to have "no side effects", and the many drs. & specialists out there take it very lightly. We continually worry about our daughter's self-esteem, risk of diabetes, and other complications from weight gain which is not hereditary and goes on unexplained by the drug co. Reversing this weight gain has been nearly impossible. Everytime I hear a news report about our children being overweight and obese, it makes me angry because I think about the many kids that are taking this highly prescribed drug (for even the mildest allergy or asthma) and who knows how many parents don't make the connection!

We have been through hell for the past three years with my son, who is now 18. He went from a very happy, confident kid who had lots of friends, loved playing several sports, played the piano, enjoyed going to school where he got straight A's, to a complete disaster. I cried when I read many of these postings. All these stories sound so similar to ours. He had trouble sleeping where he couldn't get to sleep at night and then his sleep would be very restless (one time he punched a hole in the wall in his sleep, several times he fell out of bed) and he would be all twisted up in his blankets in the morning. Getting him up in the morning became a complete nightmare, I dreaded getting up in the morning because our mornings had become so stressful. He just could not seem to wake up no matter what method we tried and sometimes it could get quite ugly. We took him in for several sleep studies which didn't yield any results. He started feeling sick all of the time with frequent stomach aches and ended up missing alot of school. We had a CT scan done on his abdomin which didn't show anything abnormal. Because he missed alot of school he fell behind and his grades dropped, he stopped hanging out with all of his old buddies and he started getting into trouble. There were days when he would be rolled up in a ball in his bed crying, telling me that he couldn't stand the thought of going to school. This was not the son we knew and we, like most people with teenagers, figured it was just a phase and would go away. Unfortunately, he ended up getting thrown out of school and has moved out of state. He will not be graduating with his class this spring which is a tragedy. Although he has been away from us now for 10 months, we keep in touch regularly and he is doing great (he stopped taking Singulair well over a year ago). He has had a steady job that he loves for the past 10 months and is apparently able to get himself up in the mornings and to work on time. He has been living on his own, paying rent and all of the other associated expenses that go with this, he has not asked us for any assistance and appears to be coping very well. He has made a lot of new friends and seems to be thriving. We are very proud of him! He would like to get his GED and go to college. His transformation has been dramatic. The frustrating part is that it didn't have to be this way. We feel like we have pretty much lost the last three years of our son's life, and we're not sure when he will be coming home. We all miss him terribly, especially his brother and sister, there is a big hole in our family. And the stress of the last three years has taken a toll on our family. I have passed some of these postings on to our Dr. I hope all of the information on these postings will help to spare other families the sadness and heartache that we have gone through. If there is going to be a class-action suit I would appreciate receiving any information regarding that.

I am Cody Miller's mom, the boy who took his life after 17 days on SINGULAIR.I am just checking back to read some postings and I am truly amazed and saddened at the stories.I believe that if you follow through by filing your side effects with the FDA , advise anyone you know to do the same,the seriousness of this drugs danger cannot be hidden or ignored any longer.We have met with some knowledgable people on the drug company Mercks outlandish ,irresponsible practices .They said, the thing that helps in cases like this are,< REPORTS AND PHONE CALLS TO THE FDA>This is what we are being told.I have copied the pages on this website and, the Congresswomans that is helping us, has scanned your stories to disk.We will be taking them to Washington DC on May 2 to speak to the FDA.These stories cannot be ignored.Please make sure you look at all the serious side effects. When speaking to your doctor, let them know that this drug can cause alot of things besides suicide, although that is a serious added side effect. I am speechless at all the postings re: Singulair. Both of my sons-ages 12 and 10 - have been on Singulair for over 5years for Allergies/Asthma induced by allergies and after reading the possible side effects, I now realize that my oldest son has been affected. His behavior, sleeping habits and social interaction has changed and in the last couple years has increased out of control. I recently made an appt. for him w/a therapist re: anger issues and as of today, called his allergist re: taking him off Singulair cold turkey. He still takes Zyrtec every day and I'm hoping that will be enough for his seasonal allergies to get him through. I miss my sweet boy and will try to make up to him what I've done by allowing this drug to damage his inner self.

My daughter has been on singulair since age 3. I can't believe all the side affects that other children are having on the medicine to. This answers so many questions for me. We have been battling with leg cramps,stomache pain,bedwetting and weight gain. My daughter instantly gained weight over night and is constantly hungry, I never could understand why and I have taken her to a gastrenologist and he never had a answer either. We went to a ENT for constant sinus infections. I had her tonsils removed and seems to be doing better. I definetly will be taking her off the medicine immediatly. She also has been having trouble in school, I wish I would have known about this sooner. I feel terrible about having her on this medicine all these years wich has caused nothing but pain and alot of doctor and hospital visits!!!!!!!!

Hey all. Reeces mom. I posted April 1. We went to the Dr. yesterday and she brushed off the singulair issues. She said that she was not convinced that it is the cause of his probs. She did state that she understood if I wanted to try claritin. I respect her and she is a great dr. but in my heart I feel that singulair was the cause and time only convinces me more. I can see it in his eyes and feel it from his hugs. To even get a hug from him is a miracle. He has been off the meds for 1wk. today. He is pleasent to be around.!! I don't know what else to do if anything, except I want EVERYONE to have the info and make their on minds about it!!!

chris555 should be listed as a side effect. I'm one of the ones whose son committed suicide while on singulair and had the mood swings and such before hand. chris555is causing headaches and making people sick because chris555 is an ass!

My 5yr old daughter was prescribed Singulair in Early March of 2008. The first week she was on it she was marching around her humidifier completely oblivious to our presence in her room. Other evenings she would wake up crying saying she had really bad dreams or we would hear bizzare talking in her room! Talk about creepy! We have never had these issues EVER! The doctor told us that the medicine can cause bizzare dreams so we started to take it in the morning after breakfast. A few more weeks on the drug we noticed an angry, impatient and then sad child. She started saying things like I feel sad inside but could not tell us what was bothering her. She would just say I feel sad. My husband and I got really concerned and the only medication she was on was Singulair. My husband went online to look up information and saw postings. We immediately took her off and she has been off of it for about 2 1/2 weeks and is a brand new child! She sleeps at night, she has fun at school with her friends and all seems normal again. Just wanted to share our story!

Our story is so similar to many of the others posted. I am including it because it adds to the data. Our 12 year old son has been on Singulair since age 7. Prior to going on Singulair (although I did not make the connection between these two events until this week..) he was an easy-going, happy, delightful boy. During the late fall of first grade he started developing strange behaviors--obsessive hand-washing, kicking our pediatrician, saying the water was poisoned. He is continuously irritable, moody, easily annoyed, impulsive, self-critical and has difficulty modulating his attention. He has had a few incidents where he has said he wants to die, he is worthless and a loser. He continually apologizes for his behaviors and is extremely remorseful, but then goes and does it again. We have seen so many specialists, spent so much money on counseling, have tried neurofeedback, Adderall, alternative supplements (eg omega 3's)...the list goes on. His issues have been like a part-time job for me. I never made the connection to Singulair, because the pediatrician and allergist assured me that Singuair had virtually no side effects. Right after the New Year (2008) he had a few days where everything seemed to go right for him-- moodiness disappeared, did his homework agreeably, seemed truly happy for the first time in a long time. In retrospect, I am guessing it is because we forgot to bring his Singulair on our vacation, so it was out of his system for several days. Now that we've tossed the meds, I'm hoping that the side effects are short lived...and we see our old son again.

As for the individual who wrote that we may be ambulance chasers, I can promise you that any money I receive in a successful class-action law suit would go towards helping other families avoid the pain and suffering our son has gone through. I consider myself an educated & well-informed parent and yet I was blind-sided by the medical industry.

I have read what everyone has said about the side of effects of Singulair. I really thought it was safe as for I researched the side effects and the clinical pharmacology. I also really trust our pulmonologist. My daughter started taking singulair at the age of 3 due to asthma induced pneumonia. She will soon be 4. She also has had terrible nightmares, which I dismissed as night terrors. She also complains at times it hurts to walk and her legs are tired. I thought she was over reacting and just wanted me to carry her....maybe not! I have decided to take her off the medicine today. I don't want to take the chance of her having any type of emotional side effects. It is not worth it for "mild" asthma which hasn't been confirmed, just assumed due to her age.

Our story is like so many of yours…My son, 7, started Singulair at 2 ½ after a hospital visit and too many rounds of oral steroids. When he started Kindergarten at age 5 his behavior became increasingly problematic. It was hard for him to meet new people - something we had noticed at birthday parties in preschool, where he clung to me the whole time. He became more and more anxious, ran out of the class, didn’t really socialize, chewed his shirt, wouldn’t talk to people he didn’t know (or even look at people). I thought - he’ll adjust, he’ll be ok - he did well in preschool (although looking back, there were some repeated behavior problems there as well). By November the teacher told me she was really starting to worry about him - that he was depressed. I took him to a psychologist and he was diagnosed with anxiety.

In the summer I tried to enroll him in an art camp - but he ran around like a chicken with its head cut off and they kicked him out. In first grade he hid in the back of the room for the first few weeks. More shirt chewing, wouldn’t take off his coat, threw things, hit kids. At home he was capable of acting normal, but then every so often would act - well, psychotic. Mumbling to himself, overreacting to everything, screaming. Meals were hard, bedtimes were hard, getting dressed was hard. I had him evaluated and he was put on an IEP for behavior/emotional issues. More and more he was talking about death - wanting to die, wishing he was dead, saying that he hated himself.

Throughout all this time, I wondered, could it be the Singulair? I asked the doctor, the allergist, the psychiatrist - have you heard that this medicine could cause this? No, no, no- they all said after looking it up.

Finally, I looked on the web and found this site back in January, 2007. I read enough postings to recognize that other people were having similar issues. I told my doctor I was taking him off. She tried to get me to wait until after winter, but I didn’t. I just stocked up on pulmacort and albuterol and figured I would be ready with the nebulizer.

I watched my son carefully that first week, and it seemed like a cloud had lifted from him. He did not instantly change all of his troubling behavior, but as time passed it became less severe and more manageable. He became capable of things that he couldn’t have handled in the past. Almost immediately he learned to read. He had been almost reading for so long, but was so self-conscious about reading aloud to anyone. He took swimming lessons without a problem - it had been impossible to take him to any new class or camp where he didn’t know anyone before.

During this time, he also got lots of support at school and I enrolled him in group therapy. But I know that he would not have made as much progress as he has if I had kept him on the Singulair. Back at his worst he was like another child - haunted, crippled by intense anxiety and self-hatred. We wondered - what could be the cause - abuse? - but it just didn’t make sense - there were no other signs. I have an older son - who never went on Singulair - who has the sunniest disposition. Yes we have some history of mental illness in our family - but most people start showing signs either from birth or in their teens. My son was a happy baby, a friendly toddler, and all along, was very loving in his good moments to his close family members. Things just weren’t making sense. We were looking all over for an explanation. Now that we have it, even though we feel relief, we also feel tremendously sad.

I wonder - how many kids out there with crazy behavior are getting punished, are falling behind in school, are being institutionalized? I will be writing my senators, congressman, state and federal, as well as notifying the FDA.

This is what bothers me the most - all of us across the country go to our doctors and ask about these side effects. But (except for those who posted here) we don’t report the side effects, because everyone tells us they are not caused by the medicine. So our individual reports were never taken seriously because it never got past the doctor’s office.

I feel bad I didn’t post earlier, but I was intimidated, and almost embarrassed to “blame” my son’s behavior on the medicine, rather than taking responsibility for it as a parent. Thank you to all the parents who had the guts to post, and especially to the parents of Cody Miller who brought this to the public. I am so sorry for your loss - and I am so sorry for all the parents and children and teens and adult Singulair users who have suffered. I feel like we should form support groups because we have all been through a terrible trauma. I live in Massachusetts and would love to hear from those who live near me.

Here is some perspective for you all. I take Singulair and do well on it and in ACTUAL studies it has one of the safest safety records. Understand that post marketing reporting does not mean there is a correlation between the event and the product. Throughout the life of a drug the companies must disclose any report of side effects reported to them REGARDLESS of causality. A popular antihistamine that is OVER THE COUNTER also has suicidal thinking/behavior listed in its post marketing section. However, just because patients who had reported having these thoughts while taking the product doesn't mean it was a result of the product! Maybe they had a depressive personality and were also on multiple other medicines to treat that. You must look at the "Adverse Reactions, Warnings and Precautions" sections of package inserts to see the side effects that were actually seen in studies. You can die from ulcers derived from over use of aspirin or ibuprofen. Decongestants can throw off your blood pressure and these events are documented in actual studies! Listen to your bodies when taking any med. If you feel differently report it to your doctor.

These are all drugs people, there are potential side effects. There are also side effects to those "natural" over the counter remedies that are not nearly as regulated by the FDA or studies by the drug companies.

To anyone out there who has experienced side effects to singulair timed to when you started it, talk to your doctor, stop taking it and see if it goes away. Same advice for any product prescription or over the counter medicine. Side effects can be a combination of many factors (what other meds are you taking?) But understand for many people this product is the safest and most effective treatment for them. The FDA and Merck are reviewing all information to see if there is any correlation to the reporting. But singulair been around for about 10 years and prescibed to billions of people and is known to be one of the safer medicines out there overall.

In between the legitimate posts on this site I get the sense there is a lot of ambulance chasing going on. People looking to cash in on this big drug companies. We want drugs, we want them cheap and with no side effects which is not a reality. Keep stepping up the regulation and make the companies hire more lawers to protect themselves and jump through even more hoops and see what happens to the price and access to new meds. Even better, see how regulation has impacted the development of new medicines around the world (here's a tip, it will dramatically decrease). Drug companies certainly aren't perfect but which industry is?

Please, when taking any medicine over the counter, prescription or herbal supplement listen to your bodies to see if the potential benefits of the product outway the risks or side effects. Report any changes to your doctor.

What's the safe replacement drug for Singulair? I took my son off it before and he had his worst asthma attack ever. I see all the same symptoms in my son who's 9 and has been on it for 4 years now. It's so scary. We're off to the doctors to see what can be done. My Pharmacist has never indicated that there was ever a change in the side effects to Singulair. I've been diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks since Nov. 15 2007 ended at the hospital emergency room, after using Xopenex been using Advair and Singulair due to my asthma once my Doctor increased my Advair from 250mg to 500mg twice a day on Sept. 5th 2007 noticed fast palpitations and overwhelming. Knew and complained for quite sometime that I wasn't feeling like myself. Since Nov. 26th 2007 I stopped taking Advair, Albuterol inhalers,Nebulizers due to the fact of my new Anxieties that I never had. Continued taking my Singulair medication thinking that it was safe. Only been on Singulair a little over a year. Still continued to experience Anxiety and Panic attacks. Due to this I've been seeing a therapist since Dec. of 07.Has affected myself, my children who have witnessed my episodes of Anxiety attacks and know thats not me.Also has affected my performance at my job and attendance. Just took two MRI's of the brain just last week thinking there maybe something wrong with my brain.My side affects have been Dizzy spells,feeling faint,blurry vision,extremely tired,muscle spasms,loss of concentration, and not being focused. These are my experiences with Singulair and I believe that the FDA should further investigate these allegations. I know for a fact I've been experiencing this for quite sometime and my Doctors tell me I'm just depressed. Ignoring the fact they prescribed me so many medications that trigger Anxiety depression and God knows what. Thank you Cita

I heard about this on NPR on Friday morning and cannot believe what all I have read about to date. We have been to so many psychologists, psychiatrists, play therapists, neurology, allergy, and so forth trying to explain her behavior. We have had so many different theories thrown our way that it's hard to know what to believe anymore. Not one medical professional noted that her allergy meds could be partly to blame. After I listened to the initial report, I was talking to my small circle of friends about some of the problems we have been experiencing with our daughter for years. Everyone that I have spoken with that has children on Singulair all complain of similar problems in their children- they say they wish they weren't alive, show extreme rage , hate to be alone, etc. I am no medical professional, but I cannot afford to see if this isn't what is causing our daughter's behavior. Certainly after reading these postings I'm even more convinced about the connections. I would be remiss if I followed my pediatrician's advice and continued her on Singulair. Finally, I see some light at the end of this long tunnel and I no longer feel so isolated.

I have been on here for 6 months now. Please read the rest of my postings. My son is now 5 and doing great! I have my child back. He has been off Singulair since October 07. It took a few days to see little improvement. It took a month to make strides. And now we are almost home. Thank God. I too until I found this website was so distraught. My son had every test in world, comes from about as stable as you can get happy loving catholic home. We eat healthy organic foods and I am a medical professional to top it off. So for anyone to get on here and questions a parents "parenting" or to call them ignorant for not stating their complaints until now is simply a moron! I see the side effects first hand this has had on children. I too was unaware of the problem myself until my son became the victim at only the innocent age of 4. Merck knows what is going on. There needs to be a class action lawsuit. I am so proud of Kate whose son became the victim of Merck who took his innocent life. She went beyond blogging and took it to media. Imagine if all of us became motivated enough to realize the drug company used and abused our children or selves. Write oprah, bill o riley, merck the fda, everyone. Everyone I come in contact with I warn them. I email everyone I know and urge them to forward it and so on. The one god given duty that we were given was to protect our children. WE NEED TO DO THAT!! I am so proud of the parents who are speaking out and realizing their kid is not a pyscho. Kudos to you!! I am holding Merck responsible for this traumatic event it caused my entire family let alone my four year old son. They owe us big time, not just for the medical bills that endowed for all the tests, doctor visit, and psychiatric visits. But also for our mental anguish!! Be active and we will make progress!!!
