I have been on risperdal for 12 years and it has improved my life greatly. I was a paranoid schizophrenic who was thin. I have gained more than 50 kgs but now on a diet which is losing it. I have experienced anxiety but it is far better than it was when I was sick. I have my life back again and am more social and happy. I am able to study and working is still a problem, as I have a little problem in learning new things and remembering and I am a lot less verbal and articulate than I was. It has slowed my thought processes down. I still get strange thoughts from time to time, and my dream activity has become very strange. It is like a sequel each night and the dreams seem real and with the same characters. It has made life interesting. I have also developed phobias and obsessions. Not sure if this is part of the illness or the side effects though. I have noticed I am much more calmer after the tablets than I was before and a lot less emotional. There are some things I have to work at but I have learnt how to overcome my fears gradually and work with them. Overall, I could not imagine my life without it. I tried to go off it and it was far worse as the illness came back again.

I have been on Risperdal for 5 years now. It has increased my prolactin alot which stops periods. I do get strange thoughts, some quite scarey. When I tried to cut down, I got very angry. I have lost weight over the past few months, I guess it is because I have been more active. I do get whoozy in the head, sometimes feel like I could black out kind of feeling. I don't weed the garden anymore as I feel like fainting when standing up from kneeling down. That is from low blood pressure I have been told. I don't think I can come off Risperdal as I am scared of the anger and I am more mentally stable.

I was prescribed riperidone over 6 years ago.I was wrongly diognosed as schiczophrenic. It made my life hell.i suffered phsically for the first 4 days of taking it.I was could not walk and was in alot of pain.Whe the physical side affects wore of,i started to feel strange mentally.I started to can not have very strange thoughts which made made mylife a misery.i often wished was dead because of this.I could not get on with my life.I might as well been mentally paralysed.
I dont know if a medication could cause such side affects
mentally. But I can not link it to anything else.It is strange that
the hese thoughts affected me less whn I stopped this medication. After a while I was put on another medication .The thoughts were still disturbing me but not in a major way that it did when I was on risperidone.I developed depression as well.I was a once healthy person who was now mentally ill.I stopped all the anti schiczophrenia medication.Since then these thoughts are insignificant and no longer disturb me.I am now so happy that it is all over.i never want to go through anything like that again
