Two of my female relatives have been given this medication. One a few years ago. Another has just been discharged from hospital. The most recent is why I had surfed the net looking for answers and found this site.
She is like the first is suffering from overweight, breast discharge. constipation etc.
The first time we managed to gradually cut down the dosage, but this took time. She had withdrawal symptoms complained of her heart pounding and a general feel feeling of nausea. I think the first step is feeling your ok and knowing you have to get off it. If you have the wherewithal to do that, its all down hill.
I had got mad with the doctor but his answer was, "Which is it to be, sickness or medicine? It seems to me that they could be a bit more careful with the dosage knowing the side effects and problems it will cause.

I have been taking Risperdal for 7 months. I have gained weight. But because of my depression I am not exercising anymore. Also on Effexor and Cymbalta. Has anyone heard anything about Cymbalta? Seems as if I take a pill for everything now. Dr. gave me Ambien to take if I cannot sleep. Thanks.
