Reglan and medication

THIS IS A HORRIBLE DANGEROUS DRUG!!!!!
Doctors prescribed this to my mother for 5 years!!!! Because of it's devastating side effects it is FDA approved for short term 4-12 weeks and only as a last resort. And NEVER for Parkinson's patients. It is unclear if Reglan caused the Parkinson's like symptoms or if she had it prior. Either way the doctor was so wrong to prescribe this medication to her. She is completely disabled can't walk or even get out of a chair had a auto accident and falls one time a metal frame fell on her head causing a hospital visit another time she fell into cactus! I was horrified to learn that no one caught this error. Not one doctor or the drug store told my parents REGLAN could cause her to end up using a walker and unable to function even the simplest daily tasks and that these symptoms could be permanent.

I felt extremely hyper after receiving a dosage of Reglan. I was in the hospital after suffering a terrible bout of food poisoning and I became extremely nauseated. The physician gave me this medication in order to control the nausea. After about 10 minutes, I felt worse than before going to the hospital. I felt extremely hyper and could not sit still. I felt extremely terrified and did not know why...I felt like I wanted to take off running and throw myself in front of the nearest car or jump from the roof of a building. I started crying uncontrollably. I told my doctor how I felt and she stated "some people experience this feeling...about 1 in 1000 people". I began to wonder why such a drug was on the market if this is what happens. I'm wondering how many people have felt similar and actually acted on their feelings.

The scary thing is this...I believe the estimate of 1 in 1000 people suffering side effects is wrong. While at the hospital a nurse told me there was another patient who experienced the very same experiences on the morning my dosage was injected.

I have never felt so awful in my life and I'm hoping there will be a class action lawsuit for this drug.

At the age of 17 I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux. I was given a couple stomach medications, in which one of them was Reglan, for my nausea. I then began experiencing "severe" anxiety attacks and found myself very depressed. I was unable to be around people and sadly contiplated suicide several times, when oddly my life was great and pretty normal. I was sent to a therapist in which he also could not resolve the problem. I was put on anti-depressants which partially helped. When I experienced anxiety attacks I was force myself to sleep them off, causing myself a sleeping-disorder called insomnia. I also bagan to lactate milk, when I was not pregnant. I did not know that the Reglan WAS the cause of all my symptoms until the age of 23 when I was hospitalized. I had stopped taking all my medication for over three years and was doing very well. When I was in the ER a nurse seen that Reglan was on my chart and since I was experiencing nausea, she inserted the Relgan into my IV. Within 15 minutes I began to freak out, I was having an extreme anxiety attack. I was yelling I that I wanted go home. I felt like ripping my hair out. That was when another nurse (also a good friend of mine) seen me and said I was having a reaction to the Reglan. The doctor came in and explained that the Reglan was cause of my anxiety. After I calmed down hours later, I explained my passed symptoms and he said that all my symptoms where Reglan related side effects. I DO NOT RECOMMEND REGLAN!!! It's better to feel like or even to throw up, then to feel like taking your own life and not knowing why...

I had been prescribed Reglan for my Reflux condition and was so hopeful that this new RX would help me get through the night without losing my dinner!! Well, after only 3 days on the medication, I began to experience the most horrendous anxiety attack that I ever imagined possible!! I ended up in the ER because I swelled up like a balloon and couldn't breathe! I don't know if that is a direct affect of the Reglan, but I do know that I thought it was the end of the world for me!! I truly felt that if I could, I would have jumped out of my own skin! I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sit still, I couldn't lie down, I couldn't stand to have the ER machines hooked up to me or even stand to have the gown on!! I have several medical conditions which cause me to have to go through periodic testing and lots of blood work, etc. -- I've even been through successful brain surgery and never experienced the type of fear and anxiety I experienced after only 3 days on Reglan!! This is a very dangerous drug and any doctor considering the possibility of prescribing it to a patient, please re-consider if there is an alternative, and if not, please warn the patient about the unbelievable hell they may experience if their body cannot take this drug!! I don't want anyone to go through what I have experienced!! I am still feeling the effects and I have stopped taking the drug. I will NEVER touch Reglan again!! Thank you for the opportunity to share this experience with the hope that it will help stop others from having to go through it!!

I was prescribed Reglan 3x/day for the specific purpose of increasing my breast milk supply after my twins came home from the hospital. Although I was already nervous and tired, it seems that after three weeks on this pill, this medication had aggravated my symptoms and had in fact made me very sick. I was experiencing episodes of severe panic, passing out, dizziness, blurred vision, "brain fog", general anxiety, rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, as well as all of the listed side effects.

I was certainly not a person who suffered from these kind of symptoms prior to taking this medication, and although my doctor said it would be more likely that this was some kind of postpartum adjustment disorder, I did feel a gradual coming on and slacking off of the intensity of these symptoms around my building up and weening from the medicine. It is 2 months later and I still feel as though I am recovering.

Whatever I was going through, this medication should not have been given to me, or anyone who is in the postpartum time,as it AT LEAST aggravated my symptoms. I have read a lot from others who have posted stories of terrible long-lasting neurologiacal/mood disorders that they believe have been caused by Reglan. Also it seems that like me, these people have endured extended periods of suffering even after stopping use. I echo the sentiment of caution that has been expressed by others about using this drug. These side effects should be further investigated.

I have been on this medication 10 mg 3 times a day for 2 1/2 years , I was under the impression that i was only going to take it for 12 weeks , but my Doctor has told me to stay on it . I have not noticed and side effects. But after reading this i need to talk to my DR. about the long term effects from the use of this medicine.

I was 3 months pregnant with my second child. I had been throwing up every day (4-6x) since my first month of pregnancy. My OB said that it would pass and was not concerned. On night I just couldn't take it anymore and ended up in the ER. The doc started me on a IV to replace my fluids. She also added Reglan to it. About 2-3 minutes after they added it to my IV my whole body turned to ice. I was freezing. It felt like something was crawling under my skin. I started rubbing my arms like crazy telling my husband that I didn't feel good. My body felt like it was not my own. I was trying to get out of it!! The only way I can explain what happened next was I guess I had a panic attack. I started screaming "Get it out of me!!" I tried to rip out my IV and jumping off the table. I could not stop shaking and crying. I was perfectly fine (mentally) before they gave Reglan to me. Two security guards and 2 nurses + the doc came running in and attempted to hold me down (5'7 130lbs). They could barely hold me down before the doctor shot something into my IV. Within seconds it stopped and I felt 100% better. I asked what happened to me and the doctor said that "you had an adverse reaction". Ummm that is putting it mildly. I signed myself out after that. I have NEVER experienced anything like that in my life!! Needless to say I tell my doctors (OB+ GP) that I am allergic to Reglan!

I took Reglan for a month. I gradually begin to lose interest in things, couldn't concentrate, and at the very end of the month became suicidal. It has now been a month since I have stopped taking Reglan, and every day is miserable and joyless. Every day I cry and think about suicide. The side effects of this medication did not end when I stopped taking it. My life is unbearable because of Reglan, and if the side effects don't end soon I am afraid that I will eventually kill myself. DO NOT TAKE REGLAN EVER.

DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG!!!!!!!! I was given Reglan in IV, my life has never been the same. Anxiety attacks that have not stopped since, and it has been about 4months now. Every time I mention this to a doctor they shoot the issue down. Out side of the gallbladder issue that I went to the ER for I was before in good health, not since Reglan and the almost 2 hours of severe tremors through my whole body, after taking it.

Can anyone help me? My doctors and pharmacists can't seem to help. A GI doctor perscribed Reglan for my IBS/Constipation and after five weeks I started getting anxiety and depression. As the weeks went by it got more intense until I couldn't even drive, enjoy my usual activities or relate to my family. I have a history of moderate anxiety and the doctor never mentioned that as a side effect so it took me a while to finally search the medication with anxiety and depression and I came up with numerous people who had the same exact symptoms as me. I stopped taking it right away and in a couple of days I had such severe anxiety, panic and depression I had thoughts of suicide. It's been two weeks and I'm still suffering. My doctors and pharmacist all deny it's the Reglan. They say it's my old anxiety disorder but I was never like this! They want to give me more meds. I don't want to take anymore chemicals, I'm afraid of all the side effects! Does anyone know if these side effects will go away and when? Please.

My dad has been taking metoclopramide (Reglan generic) for about 8 weeks for delayed gastric emptying. About 2 years ago he suffered a freak infection that left him paralyzed from the chest down. 3 surgeries and A LOT of therapy later, he has made good progress, until he started taking this medication. He has been struggling with ongoing fatigue, muscle weakness, minor episodes of confusion, and a few depressive episodes. I realized the connection when my mom had said he started having more trouble walking over the past 3 weeks or so. He has fallen 3 times in 2 weeks. He went to his primary care doc today and he immediately took him off of the meds. He told my dad "I have one word to describe this med. Nasty." We just pray that he gets his strength back after it works out of his system.

i've been taking the generic reglan for a month for gastroparesis. i become depressed fast, have been having increased migraines, severe exhaustion as if i had mono, and just recently began lactating. I've stopped taking the medication to try my own trail if the side effects are even worth it. I'ld rather deal with stomach pains and not eat then the spells of depression and other side effects.

This medication is dangerous and causes serious neurological complications. After taking a prescribed dose for 3 days, I have experienced numbness in most parts of my body including face, muscle stiffness, muscle jerking and intensive weakness. I have also experienced uncontrollable anxiety attacks marked with depression and anger. This is the worst medication I have ever taken and after having stopped taking the pilss for three weeks now, my life hasn't been the same. I've been in the emergency room 4 times and two out of the four times I had an ambulance ride there. It feels like your having a stroke and then the body function comes back after a few minutes of HELL. Please be careful with this medication...very dangerous. I lived a normal healthy life prior to taking this medication.

Have taken Reglan just for just one and a half weeks to help with my diabetes related gastroparesis. Since taking it I have been unable to read, play computer games or even concentrate on TV. I chucked it yesterday morning and already feeling a bit better. I am gonna try again maybe in a few days just to confirm that this drug is the cause, but it looks awfully coincidental. That's why I'm looking up side effects on the web today, gave them no thought until yesterday.

After taking 10 mg. of metoclopramide (reglan) with each meal and at night for two years and two months for reflux, I am left with tongue and toe movement, difficulty falling asleep, and a strange numbness in my toes. It has now been a year and a half since I last took the medication. I would love to know if anyone has found anything that helped. Whenever possible, I tell people about my experience, hoping thereby to ease my own self-consciousness but also to find possible cures that don't themselves come with side-effects.

All medications have anticipated side-effects, so why can't we accept the positive benefits of meds provided to the public on a self-selected commercial basis !

I was given Reglan at the hospital via IV for flu-like symptoms, even though I didnt not mention having nausea - just a lack of appetite and indigestion. My doctor did not discuss it with me or ask me if I wanted it, she just sent a nurse in with an IV. I was told she was giving it to me because my heart rate was up and I was dehydrated.

The Reglan made me feel a lot better, I left the hospital feeling like I could actually walk again, even though I was still experiencing serious chills. Went home and was basically asleep off and on for hours but feeling fine. Then this morning I woke up with nausea, dizziness, tiredness and headache - symptoms I didnt have before taking the Reglan. I told the pharmacist about this and asked if I should have the prescription filled. He told me that the Reglan was to help me with those feelings and I was just having them because now that I didnt have the medication the symptoms were back. I'm not buying that, though. I think its a side effect of the Reglan and so I looked up this site. I'm glad I did. I now know I definitely should not go pick up that prescription.

my doctor just prescribed me reglan 10mg. i told him i was afraid to take it because of the side effects i have been reading. he said it was one of the safest medicines out there and that it has been around for years. any advice, still afraid to take it.

The first time I recieved reglan i had a migrane. I didn't know it at the time but the drug made me restless then I passed out in the ER. The second time was when i had surgery. I was fine before the medication but as soon as i got the injection I became agitated, restless, and could not stop moving (rocking back and fourth, and wiggling my toes), then i procedded to vomit throughout the surgical procedure. The third time i got it (after telling the anathesiologist that I had an allergy to Reglan) was when I had a C-section. I vomited uncontrollably throughout the birth of my son, became agitated, and passed out again!!

i was prescribed this drug at three weeks pregnant by a doctor at my local hospital and it made me vomit more i were told that it would calm the vomiting down and make me feel better as i continued taking the drug i got ill so i stop the medication and notified my doctor i were sent for a scan and the medications had aborted my child and the baby i were carring is dead i started to miscarry the baby and i gave birth in july 2005 and i am now waiting to see a doctor for a aplology and waiting funeral arrangements and i cant understand why they didnt know this

I went to the doctor as I have IBS and stomach problems and have had for some years now. She put me on Reglan 10mg three times a day. I took it for about a week and had severe drowsiness to the point I could not stay awake at all. Also it made my nausea and vomiting worse instead of helping. I experianced trouble breathing and finally just stopped taking it all together. I would strongly caution anyone who is thinking of taking this medication.

I went to emergency room with a migrane that I had for over a month to be exact since 10/28/2004 till I went to emergency room on 11/30/2004. I tried other meds. but they weren't working when I went to emergency room they gave me an ivy with an injection of REGLAN my experience with the REGLAN was, I started feeling agitated, got very anxious and my jaw got very tight at that time I really didn't think much of it cause it was making me feel better as far as my migrane went so when I left the emergency room they gave a perscription of REGLAN to take home but when I tried it at home I felt the same thing I felt my jaw getting tight and lock so I stop taking the medication because I got scared of it.ask questions before u take any type of meds. just to be in the safe side.

I just was prescribed a medication called reglan. I went to check the side effects like i always do on the computer. If all of this is happening to people why hasn't the FDA took it off the selfs. And how are doctors allowed to continue to give it out knowing all of this. I see why there are lawsuits against doctors.

I just was told to take Reglan, 10 mgs. 1 at bedtime. I looked this medicine up on the internet since it is new to me. Thank God I did just that, because now I am going to call my dr. back up and tell him I am not taking this medication.
This sounds like a very dangerous medication and with all of my other problems, I certainly don't need what appears to be terrible side effects of Reglan.
