Just wanted to tell a part of my experiences at this point i am still getting past the side effects as we speak. I stopped taking lisinopril approx. 2.5 months ago and found that i was constipated and that was why i was not getting past the side effects or at least why they were still present and boy were they. I mean i have stopped taking the drug and am not feeling any better, what gives. So make sure you take some kind of NATURAL stool softener to make sure you don't get constipated. I found this constipation problem about 3.5 weeks ago and am still experiencing dizziness, upset stomach, pains here and there, cant think, etc. If anyone knows how long this is going to take to get out of my system i would appreciate any info. i will post again and look for any help (info) from someone who has gotten past the Lisino hell hole. PS make sure you are not constipated. it will take that much longer to get out of your system. I took the med for only 2 months a 10 count. Thanks Tom

My 82 year old brother was put on 40 mg of Lisinopril to lower his blood pressure. He was already taking Atenolol (50 mg) and also taking Simvastatin (40 mg) for cholesterol. With in two (2) days his fingers started going numb and hurting. It took us about 5 weeks to realize the systems started right after he started on Lisinopril. By that time all his fingers were numb and tingling, with lots of pain. He also had, nausea, shortness of breath, & upset stomach with diarrhea. After reading the same side effects on the website, he immediately stopped the Lisinopril. Most of the systems stopped fairly soon after stopping the Lisinopril except the numbness, pain & tingling in the hands. It has been over 2 months and with some alternative treatments he is finally seeing some relief from the hand problems.

Lisinopril was the first medication my PCP prescribed for moderate hypertension. Almost immediately, I started to experience aching bones/joints and cramping muscles. Searching the internet, I read a number of reports that suggested that Lisinopril was made from the venom of snakes in South America. While many of today's medications are derived from natural plant and animal sources, this still freaked me out. I eventually came of this medication. I was then put on Felodepine, which wasn't much better. Then it was onto Catapres (Clonidine), which lowered my blood pressure, but didn't maintain it. After a reading of 171/110 just the other day while at the doctor's office, I'm on another medication Terazosin 1MG, plus Quinapril 40 MG. I have an unusual upset stomach, and a more pronounced heartrate that is at times quite disturbing. I also have a sinus infection and am on Augmentin, so I cannot point directly to the BP meds for these conditions. I agree with others that Lisinopril is just bad news. Glad I'm off of it.

I am a 27 year old female and have had high blood pressure since I was 15. I have been on beta blockers my whole life like (Labatalol and Toprol XL100mg/day). I have never noticed any side effects with those, but my doctor just switched me to Lisinopril because my blood pressure on Toprol is 135/90 and when I am off it is 160/105 so she said the Toprol really isn't working. So, I have been on this medicine for a week and a half now and I think I would rather take my risk of a stroke and have high blood pressure than to continue to take this. I have nausea each day, upset stomach, my appetite is gone and then when I do eat I feel very full and bloated, I am shaky on the inside, foggy headed, I cough in the morning, I have been waking up with a sore throat that goes away within a few hours, but I am not sick, I get a weird dull headache in the afternoon, pounding heart, and I feel crazy like a crackhead. I have been crying for the past three days and feel depressed, confused and my mind won't stop racing about stuff.
AND my BP has been 130/80 so nothing has changed. I am having a hard time focusing at work and I just want to go take a nap because I am so worn out from fighting with the racing thoughts and shakiness. I am going to a new Dr. today to see if I can take something else, but as of today I will no longer take Lisinopril.

i have high BP and was on a med that worked well but was rather expensive, so i asked my Doc if we could try something more affordable. he put me on Lisinopril and within a few days of starting this med i had headaches, coughing, upset stomach and dizzyness. i assumed this would be temporary as per getting used to the new med, but it only got worse... and by 2 months later i was also having shortness of breath, constant fatigue and trouble sleeping. i looked up Lisinopril side effects online and called my Doc to say that i was having many problems with this med, he assured me it was not the Lisinopril and to keep taking it. on Sept 28th 2007, i went in to see the Doc and my BP was still a bit high so he doubled the dosage of Lisinopril. 2 days after i started the new dosage i had such serious breathing problems i was literally gasping for air and had to go to Emergicare, my BP had come down and the Doc at Emergicare said the breathing problems were just seasonal allergies and prescribed some Prednisone which he said would help. he also said i might want to come in for some Nebulizer treatments. i continued to take the double dosage of Lisinopril and was so sick every day that i no longer even cared what happened to me. i had a constant pounding headache, chills/body aches, blurred vision, nausea, weakness, coughing, fuzzy confused feeling, and i felt totally exhausted...breathing was still difficult and at night just rolling over in bed caused me to gasp for air. well 2 days ago i could not take it anymore and called my Doctors office to firmly explain that the med was making me VERY ill, they said they would get a message to my Doc right away and in like 5 minutes they called back and said STOP this med immediately!! well it's been 48 hours now since the last dose of Lisinopril and i feel much better already. i still have a headache but the other problems are fading down to very mild. i can even breath again YAY....i only hope that in a few more days i will feel normal again. to ANYONE reading this dont take this med, it will make you very, very sick!! and for those of you who actually are on this stuff please pay attention to how you are feeling and tell your Doctor right away, dont ignore the side effects.. make your Doctor listen and tell him how you feel even if it seems like mild issues bcause it will get worse!! good luck and peace to all.. :)

I was on Lisinopril for one month in 2005. I had the cough, exhaustion, upset stomach, weight gain (which was interesting because I couldn't eat), depression, and various aches and pains. Luckily my doctor did listen and switched me to Cozaar. It is not a generic but I haven't had any side effects and my blood pressure is actually down after being on it for two years. It did take 18 months to get over the one month of Lisinopril but there is light at the end of the tunnel when you get off it.

If I get switched to a new medication or am put on a new medication for anything, the first thing I do now is check for side effects blogs.

Have been on lisinopril(20mg a day) for ten days. Have had upset stomach, diarrea, heart flutters, but mainly my BP has been fluxating for the past week, from 138/75 to as high as 147/48. Is this medication suppose to do this. I was on niphedapine, which I had no side effects.
