Hi....I am a 48 year old male just starting on Lisinopril 10mg daily. Have taken it for 7 days now. Blood pressure before was 184/120 in the doctors office. Have seen it spike to 200/129 at the dentist plus 220/149 at the Oral surgents office removing a tooth. First day of taking Lisinopril it knocked down my BP too 123/75 thought that was great. Since has mellowed out now at 140/90. Im sure on my second visit the DR. will up my dosage which I will question. So far reactions have been that scratchy throat right of the bat that everyone discribes. Plus my stomach just groals the first hour as it trys to disolve. Takes about 4 hour before I can see it lowers my pressure any. Have been trying different times of the day best I can to find the best time to take it which I now have settled on right after noon lunch about 1 hour works best. I also have had alot of tiredness from it, which is different from the weakness I also get from a condition they say I have called N.A.S.H. (non alcholic steatohepatitis ) which basically is too much fat in your liver that drains me of energy worse each year. But why I bring that up is the feeling is different a tiredness compared to a weakness feeling I dont seem to like. The weakness I can jack away with some caffine but this tiredness nothing seems to help so far. Have had some dizzyness getting up which is something I can live with til it makes me faint or fall at some point then I surly will cry wolf get me off this. Getting blood work done soon to see how it affects my liver counts will update you on that later.

I have been on Lisinopril and a diuretic for about 1.5 years -- started with 5mg of lisinopril. At first had a slight cough, but went away. In Feb 2008 routine blood tests were done and my ALT - liver enzyme was slightly elevated to 36. ( last test in 2003 was normal) --- had the test repeated in Aug 2008 and the ALT was up to 41. Doctor was not too worried, not very elevated - but I persisted as to why and she sent me for an ultrasound that showed all was normal for my liver, spleen, gallbladder, kidneys. My pressure was up a bit at the Aug appt - so she increased my Lisinopril to 10mg. I had another liver enzyme test done beg of Oct 2008 and now the ALT is up to 66. I told her the only difference is increasing my Lisinopril and that must be the cause for elevated ALT levels. She is not sure -- I am now being referred to a specialist -- but told to stop taking the Lisinopril for 3 weeks and they will see what the levels are. Have only seen a few mentions of elevated liver enzymes as a side effect -- has anyone else experienced?? My AST levels are normal.

I've been on Lisinopril for about a year and a half now. I thought some of my side effects were just my bad health - tingling in my hands and arms and legs and feet. I've been in ER a time or two in fear of heart attack and they cannot usually find anything particularly wrong with me or my heart. I thought since my blood pressure was down, that this medicine was a life saver. I had no idea these side effects could be from the medicine. Especially since they were pretty mild and sporadic originally and only in the past few months have they seemed to increase almost daily. Also I had to get an ultrasound for my enlarged uterus and I believe the pressure I feel (I had no pressure just a few months ago) is due to the increased side effects of this drug. My concern is this, how do you safely wean yourself off of this junk once you've been on for years. I don't want to even take any more bp medicine - hbp will eventually kill me but feeling daily like I'm going to die at only 36 is not worth living a long life if these symptoms are all I have to look forward to. Save my heart, but give me neurological disorders? I don't think so.

I coughed for 3 months, sometimes I coughed so hard that I would throw up it was an awful feeling, my body ached all the time, even the bottom of my feet , It hurt so bad to try and turn over at night, I had terrible headaches my symptons were very much like chronic sinusitis andI just slowed down because I didn't feel good. I've been off this medicine for 2 months and I'm feeling better but it does make me painful in the area of my kidneys on the left side and I have blood in my urine which is also a side effect and I did have an ultrasound today, I truly believe that this medicine almost killed me.

I had two TIA'S In May and they put me on Lisinopril and told me to walk and then walk some more. After about two blocks I would start to develope a pain in the calf of my left leg, not a cramp but it felt like some one hit me in the back of the leg with a baseball bat. With pain I could do a mile and then it got worse. I would need to stop numerous times during the mile and give the leg three or four minutes rest. After the rest it wouild feel normal for about three minutes and then the pain would start to return. I have told my doctor that I think it is the Lisinopril that is causing it but he says it is impossible.

I have had a ultrasound done on my legs and it shows about 50% artery blockage but the specialist says it would need to be 80% clogged to cause these symptons.

I would be interested to know if any of you have had these symptons that you can directly charge to Lisinopril.

Dr. 1st put me on 5 mg Monopril. Seemed to lower BP slightly. Increased to 10 mg. The next refill the pills were different shape and color. Started getting irregular heart beat. Dr. swithed me to Verapomil. That really messed me up. So, we swithed to 10 mg Lisinopril. Have been on it for 3 months and now experiemce irregular heart beat, nearly blacked out 3 times with very rapid heartbeat. BP is all over the scale, short of breath and memory not so good. And, to top it off, I have developed a rash in the groin area. He told me to increase to 20 mg. I have for 3 days and feel really crappy. I am going to go off for a few days and mon itor my BP and see how I feel. This is scary. He has me scheduled for a chest x-ray and ultrasound on my corodid, (however you spell it). Afer reading all these I am convinced its the med.

I started taking lisinipril over a year ago. They started me out with the brand name Zestril. (For those who don't know, lisinipril and Zestril are exactly the same drug; Zestril is one of the brand names and lisinipril is the generic.) My insurance company switched me from the brand name Zestril to the generic because it is much cheaper. Anyway, I was started on 10 mg 1x/day but experienced some dizziness and strange feelings on the top of my head. The doctor ordered an ultrasound of my carotid arteries to make sure there wasn't a blockage. There wasn't, so she lowered my dosage of the med to 5 mg 1x/day and the side effect went away. Now, however, over the last several months, I have developed a rash that itches badly (in the crack of my butt, of all places). I quit taking the lisinipril on my own a couple of times, and the rash went away, then I started it again on my own, and the rash came back. I've decided to ask my doc to switch my med. It's a shame, because the lisinipril works so well for me for lowering the blood pressure. Extremely well, as a matter of fact. Also, to answer some of the other posts, yes, lisinipril is now an accepted medication for high blood pressure. It works on the kidneys and thus lowers the blood pressure. I really hate to give it up, but I can't stand the itchy rash anymore.
