I'm a 37 yr. female. I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety about 6 yrs. ago.I take Effexor XR & about 3-4 mo. ago was prescribed 10mg. of Lisinopril for my high blood pressure.Med worked for that :)
My side effects from this med are the dry hacking cough at night.(Comes and goes) Loss of sex drive(even worse)
And about 2wks ago I started feeling really down.Crying, angry, withdrawn & having suicidal thoughts due to all the added feeling's.I had ran out of my meds(BP) and missed about 3 days.Best thing to happen :) 'Cause just a couple days ago it's like the old me returned!!! I'm HAPPIER, the depressed feeling's are GONE. I care about myself alot more than I have in a long time.Just bad brain zaps(on & off) from the sudden stop.
I've been reading on here how some side effects came on slowly, and I'm one of them this has happened to. I have MORE energy too now that I stopped.
I thought maybe my anti- depressant med. needed to be adjusted again(even took one extra pill) and that didn't work.It was my BP med making me feel terrible. Anyone who has depression should really watch for any added changes. I'm SO GLAD I found this website!!!
I thank everyone who has shared they're experience's.

I have had numbness in my face. I sleep a lot. Total nightmares, suicidal thoughts. Feeling of dread something really bad is about to happen. Anxiety, Crying spells, which I'm sure come from the bottomless pit of depression it has caused in me. My 5 year old asked me where her other Mommy is. Yes.. My daughter can even tell.
My hair is falling out. I have lost most of my eyebrows.
I'm calling my doctor Monday, getting switched and I'm going to do a lot of investigating about this crap. I am really wondering about suicidal risk of this stuff. Maybe another little drug cover up. I really believe that depression and suicidal thoughts should be clearly stated to potential consumers.
And now I am really mad about this.
Kim Age 47 taking for 2 months now and my side effects seem to just mount.

I started out on the HCTZ for two months, but I was experiencing tingling in my left hand. My doctor decided to switch me to the Lisinopril (20 mg. daily) to see if the tingling would stop. Unfortunately, it didn't stop; rather, the tingling is increasing, and now it tingles and feels like rigor mortis setting in, and then it recedes until the next bout. About the cough: mine is very bad, especially when I first wake up. I keep spitting up long "threads" of clear mucus; it wracks my body until I could fall to my knees. Once it stops, I'm okay till the next morning, although I do cough during the day. The only other comment I'd like to make right now is to say that, before I was ever diagnosed with HBP, I was fine; now I'm very tired and sluggish. I've also been entertaining suicidal thoughts lately, so I stay off the roof, just in case. My doctor told me last night to quit taking the Lisinopril for three days, then call her and let her know if any of my side effects had receded or disappeared. That's where I am today. I feel any medicine that makes you sicker than you were to begin with should be removed from the shelves. I'd rather take something that works, with no/little side effects, even if it IS a medicine that's been around a long time.

Hello everyone,
I've only been on lisinopril since March 18, 2004. It has been prescribed for me for high blood pressure. I'm also taking a diuretic--hydrochlorothiazide. I see that I'm having the same side effects as several of you. I am experiencing fatigue, foggy-headedness, and sleep disturbance. Most frightening, however, is anxiety/depression. I have suffered from both for quite sometime. This medication is making those symptoms worse, even to the point of suicidal thoughts. It's very scary. I have Oxford/First Health for insurance. Does anyone know of any alternatives to linosipril that my insurance would pay for? I'm afraid of the HBP, but I'm also afraid of these side effects. Essentially, for over the last two weeks I've felt like crap. Thanks for any insight/suggestions.

Just had laprascopic surgery to remove a borderline ovarian tumor the size of a 6-7 month baby yesterday. I've been taking Lisinopril-HCTZ 10-12.5 for about 2 years now and have posted on this site before regarding my symptoms. Since this med works on the kidneys/adrenal glands and adrenal glands regulate some hormones I am wondering now about the possible connection between this med and my sudden cyst/tumor. The tumor was actually my left ovary enlarged to that size! Although benign, my very first symptom of this cyst started exactly when i began the med. It grew pretty rapid over a two year period. I have found no proof or mention anywhere and every doctor looks at me like I'm crazy, but my entire life I have NEVER had issues with my menstrual cycle or even much pain. After I began this med, I HAD to use ibuprofen every period. I began my cycle at 11 and not until 34 did I have issues - same time I began Lisinopril/HCTZ. Are their any women who are having female problems since taking this? Of course, the heart palpitations, arm and leg aches (like those of growing pains when you were a kid), dizziness, anxiety, depression, irregular sleep habits that I cannot break, increase appetite for mostly meats and proteins, some mild hair loss, abdominal cramping/tingling, hands and feet numbness, shoulder/neck pain, overall achyness, sudden/rash emotional extremes, even suicidal thoughts I know are side effects of this med.
