Lisinopril and heart attacks

I found this site by searching for depression and any of the medications I take: synthroid, metformin, glimepiride (amaryl), and lisinopril-hctz. And here's the culprit - lisinopril! I've been taking it for only a couple of months now but it feels like my world is closing in on my and I'm bouncing off the walls in my mind. I'm considering retiring having hit 62 and I thought it would be a happy time but instead I feel locked in a prison, with walls of debt, depression, loneliness, hopelessness, etc. closing in on me. I'm even very close to losing a boyfriend because I've become so clingy and emotionally needy.

I must say that I did stop taking an anti-depressant around the same time that I started with the lisinopril. However, the anti-depressant (Lexapro) was originally prescribed to combat anger and not depression. So I cannot say for sure that Lisinopril is the culprit here. But having read everyone's stories, it is very clear.

I was just prescribed lisinopril a few weeks ago, for HBP, my pressure was always low but, I recently had a malfunctioned defibrillator change and my BP went very high, so the MD put me on lisinopril. I have been on it for about a month now, but the only symptoms I have been getting is severe fatigue,sleeping a lot and very thirsty. Are some of the symptoms putting on weight, I don't want that, and I did or have not had a bad cough. But sleeping is bad and very tired all the time. Should I ask my MD to change my meds? I did have 2 heart attacks and two by pass surgeries, l4 years ago one in 93 and one in 99. Then my heart weakened and I came down with arrhythmias after passing out. They inserted a pacemaker/def. thanks to medtronic after the pacemaker and def. were recalled I had to get another one, but if this drug is causing everyone a lot of problems I don't want to take it. I do get up a lot during the night (constantly going to the bathroom) due to thirst and am constantly tired I am 51,and came down with this disease (it is a childhood disease and have had it since I was l9), but it is a scary one, heart problems. They never ran in my family. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am going to get my blood taken on Tuesday to see if this Lisipril is working or not. My Side effects: major heart palpitations, numb/tingling hands almost every morning upon awakening, fatigue, thinning hair, bloating/weight gain. I am 43 yrs old, not overweight & in good health other than my BP. I was on atenelol for about 8 yrs & switched to lisinopril aprx 5-6 yrs ago. HBP & heart attack run in my family (dad & brother both had heart attacks at age 40). The heart palpitations (I call them summersaults in my chest) have caused me to go to the urgent care & doctor more than once. Have had EKGs twice in last 3 yrs, wore heart monitor, etc. Said I have irregular heart beat, but nothing to really worry about. I started on 5mg, but BP continued to increase. Raised to 10 mg, but same thing. Now up to 20 mg & BP is finally better (but not low) at 120/86. I HATE being tired all the time as I'm the kind of person who is always going. I'm going to talk w/Dr. & see about switching to something else again... Thanks to all for sharing!

I am 58 years old , I have a family history of heart disease. I have had 7 heart attacks since the age of 39 in 1986. My blood pressure has always been a little low even though I was a smoker. My normal bp for the last 20 years has been approximately 115/75. I had a quintuple by-pass in 1997 at the age of 50. I have done GREAT until April 20, 2005. I had another MI, and 6 days later, April 26,2005 I had another MI. I was prescribed lisinopril. Since approximately mid June, 2005 I have had EXTREME anxiety and mild depression. My PCP and Cardiologist tell me it is not the lisinopril. I do not believe they could possibly know ALL the side effects of lisinopril!! Any one out there with this problem???

I am taking 20 mgs per day of Lisinopril and am experiencing the same problems. Muscle aches all over my body. Lower back pain, pain over my right rib, tingling in the hands and feet. This drug has done wonders with my blood pressure but the side effects are bad. I am a male and erectile disfunction is also a part of the Lisinopril equation. Something to keep in mind however, there are only a few blood pressure drugs on the market and they ALL have negative side effects. I have tried them all. Stopping blood pressure medication is not an option for most of us. 70-80% of the people on blood pressure medication self-stop their use of their drugs. Doing so invites strokes and heart attacks. I will continue using Lisinopril unless the symptoms get worse.
