Guaifenex and insomnia

Not only did I have the agitation, sleeplessness and rapid heartbeat that I see have occurred to others, but I had chills sweep over me several times a day. I felt like I was getting the flu, with chills that made my skin dimple, coming out of nowhere and leaving again. I felt I had poorer circulation; my hands and feet were cold until I stopped taking this drug. I took 600/120 tablets and felt so uncomfortable I quit outright. Previously, I had minimal side effects with a lower dose. But the ear problem remains. now what...

My dr prescribed me Guaifenex PSE 600/60 and Z-pack antiobiotics for my tonsillitis. I must say the Guaifenex really helps my sinus drainage but I cannot sleep at all. Here it is 3am and I am not one bit tired. Also, it seemed to trigger panic attacks. Overall, seems to work well but the side effects are killin me.

I took this drug for 2 days, and then stopped due to sleeplessness, agitaiton, and extreme congestion even when I took it with the water, like the script said!! I am never taking this again, and will throw away the rest of my full bottle, so I don't make the same mistake twice!
I tried to go back to work today after a 5 day abscence due to my previous flu, and then had to go home again just for the side effects of this medicine. I couldn't function and even think straight. I felt just like a tiger pacing in it's cage all day.....
And I have never in my life felt so out of control and agitated, even drivng a car was bad!
In short, I will try other remedies for my congestion.....

I have a terrible strong order in my nostrils that goes up into my head, and it's driving me crazy thought I might have a brain tumor, or something incurable. I'm glad I found this site for now I think it might be the Guaifenex.
I also have trouble sleeping, and feel just awful thought I was having a nervous breakdown.
I won't be taking this drug again!

I took guaifenex last year for fluid in my ears. It caused sleeplessness made me feel nervous, and accelerated my heart rate. I tried breaking the pill in half and still had the side effects. This year I am having ear problems again, and tried an over the counter nasal decongestant. I am having similar side effects. It seems anything with Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride is the culprit.

Does anyone know an alternative to clear up ear fluid?

I've been taking Guaifenex with Biaxin and albuterol. I hav'nt had any side effects besides insomnia.

Took for extreeme congestion due to allergies couple of years ago....sleeplessness, extreeme dry mouth...dazed etc. discontinued use but kept meds. Similar allergy this season....took meds to decongest...didn't seem to decongest but sure did supress appitite. Not a better diet pill on the market! None of the same effects as before. I am a few (20)pounds heavier now....Wonder if the extra weight makes the side effects a little more tolerable?

My doctor prescribed Guaifenex PSE 600 for extreme sinus congestion. I started taking the pills (1 every 12 hours) yesterday. Yesterday morning, I experienced really bad nausea & light headedness. I was able to breathe so much better, the drainage & congestion had really cleared up. I am not experiencing the dry mouth, nor sleeplessness, but I am concerned because this morning I am having chest pain. I'm a bit worried about continuing this medicine. It works soooo good, but don't think the side effects are worth it.

After about 5 days on this drug I started getting heart palpitations just doing normal activities. I also had some muscle soreness. I also had trouble sleeping fromit. I have been off the drug 24 hours now and the palpitations persist. Hopefully they will go away soon. Will not take this drug again.

I'm taking 600mg 2x/day Guaifenex for fluid behind eardrum. I've been on it for about 2 weeks. I was having a lot of trouble sleeping, so I started taking the second pill at noon. I am sleeping better at nite, however I am still feeling light-headedness all day. I went off the drug for a day and still had the light-headedness. My ears feel better, but I will probably call the Dr. because I am concerned about the light-headed feeling.

My son was given this stuff for congestion. He was feeling ok on Friday and started this med Friday night. Saturday evening the side affects kicked in and include depression, anxiety, dizziness, vomiting, severe headaches, intolerance to light, difficulty urinating, no appetite, sleeplessness, nervousness. Monday morning coughing up and vomiting blood. Great Stuff!

I too have had trouble sleeping and have developed a bad cough. I never cough when I get sick so I'm sure this drug has something to do with it.

Incredible dry mouth. Since taking the pill 2 days ago, I've only been able to sleep for 3 hours. I can't fall back asleep but I'm still tired. Sleeplessness triggered a manic episode a long time ago. Be careful.

fatigue, muscle fatigue, sleeplessness, my active work day is reduced.
