I have some kind of sickness which is going around and I couldn't hear one morning out of one ear so I went to the doctor and he prescribed me Guaifen. It worked right away after the first 30 mins my ears begin to pop and slowly return some of my hearing. The first day I took it it made me drowsy. I only take it at around the time I go to bed and it wakes me up around 7 or 8 am every time so far. I usually wake up with a really bad cough which I try not to swallow and although its supposed to help me with the cough it dosen't do anything for my sore throat. My sickness is slowly fading but the ear has not healed after the first day.

The guaifen is an expectorant, so of course it will make you cough!! That's what an expectorant does!! It loosens the phlegm so you can cough it up and out (unless you just WANT to swallow it). Also a bronchodilator which helps breathing.

The loss of appetite, not being able to sleep is caused by the PSE part of this Rx--PSE being pseudoephedrine which acts like speed for a lot of people.

Makes my nose a little dry but drains my sinuses and opens up my lungs, which is why I'm taking it!!

It's 12:42 am and I finally decided to check the internet to see if anyone else taking this medicine was experiencing / experienced what I am. I cannot sleep. Having to clear my throat or cough all the time. Mouth is so dry that there are times I cannot swallow. It's awful. This medicine is going in the trash!
