I take 5 diff. drugs and am trying to figure out which side effect is associated with which drug. I have a really shotty memory now where I have lost perception of time. I thought I had spoken to my friend two weeks ago and I spoke to her two days ago. I read the news all day at work and can't remember any of it. This could be from the Ativan, Ambien, Lamictal or Provigil that I am also taking, but I have no idea which or if its the combo of a few. I am on all of these drugs because i have Bipolar 1 disorder. I take 160 mg of Geodon at night. Also, horrible facial paresthesia and insomnia. Does anyone know if this drug causes memory loss?? Thanks

I was put on GEODON because my Doctor believe I am hypomanic. I'm also on Lithium. I'm taking 40 of the Geodon in the morning and 80 at night. I want to start taking 40 am 40 pm...it makes me so tired. When I'm not on it though I FEEL LIKE I am on cocaine. It terrible. I don't even have to do drugs anymore to become talkative and hyperactive. I wish I never started doing drugs. I've been clean for 3 weeks.

Within 5 days of beginning course of Geodon, 40mg daily, doc doubled my dosage to 80mg, began to have problems. Intensely manic, easily frightened, insomnia, terrifying dreams. I decided to get out of hospital ASAP and decide if to quit taking Geodon.
On day six already my face was twitching, was irritable and manic, pacing, increasingly manic throughout day, decided to skip evening dose, keep total dosage same as before, 40mg. Began tripping around midnight and it was all downhill from there. Sleepless all night, by morning I had convulsions, increased heart rate, fear and anxiety, psychosis, uncontrollable crying. Had another seizure 12 hours later. Slept a little with help of Valium. Next day developed Parkinson's like symptoms, had my father not been there to help me, Lord knows what would have happened to me. Still awake in day 3 of withdrawal. Hoping the worst is over.

Geodon has been wonderful for me!! I have been on it for 2 years (I think). My dose was just increased due to some depression. I am on 40 mg in the AM and 40 mg in the PM. I take it at 7 am and 5:30-6 pm. I think it helps to have the even doses throughout the day. I am also on Lamictal (awesome drug!) and Wellbutrin. My medley works great for me. The only side effect I had when my dose was recently increased was a little sleepiness in the AM. Now, 5 days into it, no more tiredness. Actually energy because I am no longer depressed. Best of luck to y'all. I am bipolar, and it sucks to have to take medicine for the rest of my life, but I feel great and I certainly don't want to go back to the depression and mania I felt off the drugs.

I just started on Geodon and i was freaked out when i saw the side effects! but i gave it a try. i have tried many other drugs in the last year and a half and i am still taking half of them to this day. (I put the "B" in BPD) I have been on Geodon for two weeks (up to 180mg) and i have notice a HUGE difference in my tolerance level and attitude. i don't get angery, looking for a fight, yelling at the kids or swearing like a sailor. then, i would cry, and weep about what just happen and the mess i made. i don't have those anymore. I am taking a lot of meds. that help other things, with my BPD. but Geodon was the only one that helped my anger issues. YES, i have side effects:dry mouth, staying up tooo late, some stomach problems and a little temorring. but it is worth it!!! when my kids say "Mom is in a good mood today,Dad." or "Thanks Mom not yelling." who could argue with that?

I was prescribed Geodon for schizpophrenia and it has had little impact on the illness. I was told to take it three times a day, 20mg capsules. At 60mg I experience somewhat strange physiological changes, like severe weakness, dizziness, and an increase in visual and auditory hallucinations. Orthostatic Hypotension is one of the major contraindications of the medicine which I have experienced. My use of the drug has been no more than 15 days and I have not finished the bottle. I could be highly sensitive to drugs which would mean having to increase the dose slightly over longer period of time. In my experience with many of these drugs I have had few positive results with mostly negative side effects that have only served to limit my physical and mental powers. I would recomend that anyone considering the use of typical or atypical antipsychotics should reconsider and look into other options. Especially when prescribed for youth or children under the age of 10 years. The permanent changes that could occur are not positive in terms of mental development, and also the possibilty of developing Tardive Dyskinesia a serious neorological abnormality that can last for the rest of one's life. My experience has ended with Geodon because I derived little benefit from its use. I would not recomend others use of the drug.

I've been on geodon for 3 1/2 years and the worst side effect i've had is weight gain. i've gained 30 lbs. it just makes me want to eat. when i first started taking it it made me really sleepy and i started takind it the afternoon and the evening and that went away but sometimes it still makes me tired. i'm on 80 mg but was on 120 mg for a while. i want to get off meds but my doctor doesn't want me off them. she wants me to switch to abilify, the newest antipychotic. she wants me to take them both at the same time until abilify starts to work. i think it's scary to be on both drugs. i would rather not be on any for awhile. i've read too that it's hell getting off but if you taper that should work. when i went from 120 to 80 the only difference i felt was that i didn't sleep as well and it was hard to get to sleep but i increased my zanax and now usually i go to sleep alright.

I think we all need to wake up and smell the coffee. This is a horriable drug. My husband is on Geodon and Wellbutrin and we are now in the process of seeking another Doctor for a second opinion. I am demanding that he be taking off both drugs and be giving something else . (He has Bi-polar) So I'm sure there is something that will allow him to be himself while controling this condition. Now I'm not even convinced that he was diognosed properly. So my goal is to start over. This is destroying his (and his family) life. NO MORE!!!

Started on Geodon 40 mg in the evening three days ago. (This is prescribed for bipolar and I also take Prozac.) It knocks me out cold about 1-1/2 hours after taking it and I have a hell of a time waking up in the morning, so knocked out-feeling, brain dead, drowsy. My husband the insomniac says I have started to make VERY strange noises in my sleep (I'm not talking in my sleep anymore, just making strange noises), but when I ask him to describe the noises, he just laughs and won't tell me. I shudder to think. After finally waking up, I feel hyper, am pacing, agitated and I am sweating like crazy. Also, my stomach feels vaguely queasy. The doctor plans to increase this to 80 mg. (Oh for joy.) It's too soon to tell, I know, but I'm so sick of taking endless drugs and combinations that don't work. I feel weird with them, I feel weird without them. What a life.

My husband was given Geodon with Prozac in June 2002 at a Denver hospital. Immediately, he felt horrible--like he was dying--couldn't eat or talk, was anxious, paranoid, and hallucinating. Before the Geodon, he was just depressed. After the Geodon, he felt suicidal and out of his mind. He paced for about eight weeks and had a burning sensation in his brain. His new pyschiatrist gave him lots of drugs to get over the effects of the Geodon. He still felt awful on all these drugs. We found out later he had serotonin toxicity from the Geodon and Prozac. Eventually, he went back to work part-time, but this was too much stress for him as he still felt awful. Then he had ECT. He is still on disability, but is just on Prozac. Geodon was a horrible experience for him and things just escalated. I do not know why it is handed out like candy. We can empathize with anyone who has had a similar reaction to this drug.

choking on my tongue, unable to breathe, rapid heart palpitations, jerking up and down, impossibility of staying still, terrifying.
Kemedrin
(procyclidine) deals with this but then its unable to get up, sleeping in the day, nightmares. i live alone so i HAVE TO get up to get food and go to bank, pay bills etc, there is NOBODY to help me with the practicalities so i was starving while unable to get up. meanwhile it has zero effect in diminishing delusions. i'm supposedly rapid cycling mixed state bipolar which i was before the experiments on me with psych drugs started. geodon was being used to get me off benzos, think i'll have to stick with the benzos despite their proven schizogenic effects

Its hard to say for sure what people will experience with any of these drugs, but its nice to hear from you all.
I am looking at whether geodon or lamictal is causing me these horride nightmares.
It seems both drugs can.
I started taking catapres, which is a blodd pressure med that has an off-label use to control nightmares which helped quite a bit...
but beware...missing a dose or two of caterpress will give you a rather bad day, as it suppresses adrenaline...which causes nightmares.....so imagine what happens when this suppression suddenly stops???? BAD.
i am tapering off geodon, i had no issue with it, but being seroquel is the only FDA approved anti-psychotic med to treat depression/aniexty....i will find out soon if the geodon was causing the nightmares or the lamictal. i will post later.
just know- for me..tappering off geodon is not going pleasant for me.
my doctor said the drug rep even mentioned it had a high side effect profile...
