I don't have a side effect to report, but I have read all of your responses. Over all they are 95% negative. The only thing I am wondering, is WHY you chose Yaz to begin with. I have been thinking about taking Yaz to help with my severe PMDD. If you don't know what that is, basically it's like the moodiness side of PMS times 10. I am euphorically happy normally, lol, kind of like how happy a cocker spaniel is when their family gets home... except I don't piddle on the floor. About 5 days before my period starts I go into a very deep depression, I bloat, I am irritable, and my entire life suffers. I cry (wail is more like it) for absolutely NO reason... blah blah blah. But once I am about 2 or 3 days into my cycle it all passes and I am back to chipper me. Long story short, I heard Yaz is supposed to be amazing to help stabilize emotions in people like me. How many of you started Yaz just as birth control, or as an acne control? How many of you took it for PMDD and it STILL didn't help?

Hi freeasabird84--

I think many of us were put on Yaz by our OB's because there is such a push for this drug right now. Pharmaceutical reps are promoting it and it's the hot new thing. My OB put me on Yaz for heavy bleeding/PMDD issues. And, though I've never smoked and am very fit, I was hospitalized within 6 months with blood clots in both lungs. I'm still taking blood thinners 8 months later. Be careful. Knowing what I know now, I'd rather be inconvenienced a few days a month than risk my life with Yaz.

i took yaz for birthcontrol and for my really bad anxiety and depression and it really takes the edge off. i still have mood swings but there very minor you hardly notice. ive had horrible anxiety al my life but yaz seems to make a wall in my mind so that i dont seem to be able to have anxiety attacks as severely as i used to, if any at all (knock on wood). the first two weeks on it for me were hard though cause i had trouble breathing and i was extrememly tired weak and dizzy, but it all faded. i think its definetly worth the try. also, i have always had very low blood pressure and yaz has made mine a little above normal range so if you have high blood pressure then i wouldnt recommend it. i think you shuold try it though!

Well I tried Yaz for PMDD only, but it has made my moodiness worse than ever before! I was never a big door slammer, but now that I take Yaz I'm a door slamming, yelling, crying machine! Another wonderful thing is having my tummy hurt every day, and the moderate nausea which never ceases. And I just love having spontaneous anxiety! I really think a more accurate commercial for this drug should be women screaming at their spouses or ladies lying in bed clutching their tummies or a girl throwing a lamp across her bedroom or a woman having a panic attack while driving rather than the happy, smiling girls they show going shopping and trying on clothes in a dressing room and taking yoga and skipping down the street flicking the words "Mood Swings" away from her head while "We're Not Gonna Take It" or "Goodbye To You" plays in the background.

Hi, I switched from Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to Yaz almost six months ago because I was having extreme anxiety and irratability during the week before my period with the OTC-Lo for almost two years. I finally got sick of alienating my husband for a week every month and not being able to focus at work, so I bought the hype and asked my Doc to switch me to Yaz. Less than half a year later I'm desperate to get on something else (Nuvaring starting tomorrow), because Yaz worked TOO well on my symptoms. Now instead of a week of craziness and three of normalcy, I have four weeks of flat-line emotions where nothing reallly matters at all to me anymore. I'm normally a chipper, productive, outdoory person but with Yaz all I want to do is watch TV and eat ice cream--classic depression symptoms for me. I suggest you try Yaz if you want relief from constant anxiety, as it sounds like it might be benificial to you. It has been too effective for this girl, and here I go trying something else--just trying to keep from getting preggers!!

I started taking YAZ as a b.c. i really like it. i have a slight period about every 3 or 4 months. i did not gain weight. no side affects that i can think of. i don't plan on stopping any time soon. i've been on it for about a year and a half.

Well I've now been on Yaz for a month now. I am SO happy to say this has been the first deep-depression free month in my life in quite some time!!

A few changes I have noticed:

Before Yaz I didn't really get cramps at all. In fact, I can't remember them being more than a slight bother since highschool. On a scale of 1-10, I used to be a 1.5 and now I am sitting at about a 5... they're painful but tolerable.

I have also noticed that while my depression has taken a vacation this month (happy dance!!), I have been a little more irritable. It's not a huge difference, and I could just be having a crappy month that's making me angry a lot, but I have been a little more grumpy lately :).

Lastly, I've been averaging 1-2 small headaches a week. I think this is mostly due to dehydration, because if I drink enough water throughout the day the headache will usually go away. The headaches are nothing serious though, a couple of Tylenol and I am good to go.

I am scheduled for a check up next week, to make sure everything is still how it should be... if anything interesting happens, I'll update this again!
