Oh my God donno where to start,
I am breastfeeding my baby and I am on Mirena for a year now, I have gained 15-20 pt( although we're poor and sometimes have no food to eat), I do work out every 3-5 times per week, doing yoga and jogging, and strolling away. I started to get severe back pain, that hurt so badly that I couldn't bend.I get cramps on and off and became highly irritable and depressed. I look like a puffy balloon, my head is thinning and I am only 26...

I posted about a year and a half ago about how Yasmin was doing all the things described by many. Lost my hair....zero sex drive...and if we DID have sex...It was the most painful experience ever....heart palpitations.....severe anxiety attacks for the first time ever in my life...and even suicidal feelings. I got off of it as I quickly realized I was essentially poisoning myself with this awful drug. And got a non hormonal IUD. The IUD has been excellent. But I must say...I have never truly stopped getting the panic attacks. They still come and go. I've tried detox teas....even seeing a therapist to help with it. I'm not on any anti anxiety drugs...I've been meditating and doing yoga to help with it. But honestly.....I wonder sometimes if I'll ever get my pre-Yasmin body back. :(

Im so happy I found this site, as I too thought I was alone in this. I really beg someone to tell me, oce they came off the pill, how long did it take for them to recover? and for their first period to come? I was on the pill for less than a year, and came off it in Feb 08. It's now Sept 08 and still have not had a single period since. My weight has been fluctuating ridiculously, and the mood swings have made me lose SO many friends its unbelievable. i don't have energy to do anything, ive it a total depression. Im begging someone to just tell me how long after they stopped did everything feel back to normal? im worrying as its been 6 months for me and still nothing!!

I just started using Yasmin 15 days ago and in the second week of taking it, I started experiencing leg cramps. I was just laying in bed and my leg started feeling really weird... I just thought it was because I hadn't done any yoga for a few days. So I did yoga and walked for a while to see if I could loosen it up and nothing. It continued for the whole week so I started taking baths to soften the muscle, thinking that it had to do with lack of exercise, still nothing. I even had my massage therapist husband try and massage it out and still nothing. So I thought it may be early pregnancy symptoms, but the test was neg. I've been researching my symptoms for a week now, and I stumble across this sight. Thank you I will stop taking it NOW so that I don't become as ill as most of you, though I will still have the leg cramps checked out asap. Again thank you.

My daughter has been on Yasmin for a year and a half - it was prescribed for irregular periods and spotty skin. She is 15 and has had a year of nausea, leg cramps, hair loss, headaches, elevated heart rate, fatigue , irritation, angry outbursts ,dehydration severe moodiness and depression and lately- uncontrolled crying for no reason. She also sees black dots after exercising. She has gone from a happy girl who loved exercise to a grumpy couch potato! The doctor diagnosed it as a viral infection and suspected glandular fever - she missed a lot of school!
Today she had a day from hell - fought with a teacher and cried for hours. She also takes Ritalin as she is ADD- so I thought it was that - I decided to look up Yasmin and am so glad I did! What a great website! She has just taken a multivitamin and mag.phos - NO MORE YASMIN!!! Any advice on what she can use for her skin? and irregular periods?
A million thanks

On lipitor for 1 1/2 years.... starting taking yoga a month ago. Had ache in knee and leg which then went to toe on other leg. Thought it was overstretching from yoga. Pain moved to hips and lower back. All very painful but worst was yet to come. Pain moved to neck and shoulders. Could not move head. Excruciating SOBBING pain. I was in so much pain for weekend. Everyone wanted me to go to emergency room but I wanted to stick it out til Monday.

PS... went on web. Saw this is lipitor side effect. never would have expected that after 1 1/2 yrs on a 10 mg dose.

Went to pain management doctor ... got Soma (muscle relaxant), an oral steroid and Percoset. Relief was almost instant.

Called my cardiologist. He says it is the Lipitor.

No more statins for me.
And back to yoga.

The nausea is tolerable, generally short-lived as long as I eat prior to taking the Chantix and drink plenty of water.

I have a sense of...fogginess....detachment, while at the same time, seem to sense clear hidden messages in the way people look at me, in what they're saying to each other, and to me. Yep, it's probably paranoia.

The nightmares are horrible. I dream specifics about deaths of loved ones, in horrible detail. I also awaken at least once a night gasping in terror, unable to get a breath.

The thoughts of suicide are strangely comforting and don't seem wrong at all. I'm depressed, but comforted knowing that I can end it if I really want to. Bizarre and I know it on some level at least.

I'm bruising easily this time. I mean REALLY easily. A small bump results in a hard, raised, dark bruise.

I developed a rash on my stomach that's been there for 3 days but seems to be clearing today.

This is my 2nd time taking Chantix and I'm 3 weeks in. I had the same symptoms last time and expected them this time. I'm smoke free but plan to continue with the Chantix as long as possible. The urge to give in and have one cigarette is too strong post Chantix. I tell myself everyday that the thoughts are NOT me, and that I can let them come and not act on them because it's the drug, not me.

Hello! I'm 27 and I've been taking Yasmin for probably 7 years and never had a single problem. My weight stayed the same, my periods got VERY regular, to the DAY, and things were ok.

Starting about 3 months ago I was on my honeymoon and decided to skip my period that month which I do a few times a year and Yasmin never let me down! Anyways my period came anyways and not only that, but I spotted an extra week after! It was most noticable in the mornings after having sex. It was just brown and yucky. Then I didn't have a period the next month, only 24 hours of brown and this month I had a regular one. On top of that I've suddenly gained 5 pounds without changing ANYTHING. I wonder, can Yasmin suddenly screw me up so many years after I started taking it? I hear horror stories about Yasmin but I only see it from women taking it for a few months or maybe a year? It was always so good to me. What's going on? The weight gain terrifies me too because I so easily gain weight and I've been trying so hard to eat well and I feel like it's been pointless. It ticks me off more because I have to pay $50 a month for Yasmin even AFTER insurance pays 15, and now I think it's messing my body up too.

I have a OBGYN appointment in a few weeks and I'm going to talk to her about it and see about getting on a new pill anyways for price reasons, but do you think all these weird sudden symptoms are from Yasmin? Can you recommend a pill? I can't afford to gain anymore weight. I just can't...

I don't have a side effect to report, but I have read all of your responses. Over all they are 95% negative. The only thing I am wondering, is WHY you chose Yaz to begin with.

I have been thinking about taking Yaz to help with my severe PMDD. If you don't know what that is, basically it's like the moodiness side of PMS times 10. I am euphorically happy normally, lol, kind of like how happy a cocker spaniel is when their family gets home... except I don't piddle on the floor. About 5 days before my period starts I go into a very deep depression, I bloat, I am irritable, and my entire life suffers. I cry (wail is more like it) for absolutely NO reason... blah blah blah. But once I am about 2 or 3 days into my cycle it all passes and I am back to chipper me.

Long story short, I heard Yaz is supposed to be amazing to help stabilize emotions in people like me. How many of you started Yaz just as birth control, or as an acne control? How many of you took it for PMDD and it STILL didn't help?

I've been taking Topamax now for about 6 weeks, and my headaches are still just as bad as ever, except now I have headaches with the thrill of numb fingers, confusion, weight loss, memory loss, an absolute horrid taste in my mouth, and now the latest.... my hands feel dirty all the time. Has anyone experienced this?? I just feel like my hands are dirty. I wash them, and a half hour later, it almost feels like there's a film on them, and I have to wash them again. Almost ocd-ish. So 6 weeks in.... Anyone have any advise on how much longer I should give this topamax before I give up on it & try something else? My doc said it should have worked by now if it was gonna - but I have read on here, that it sometimes can take months...? I just don't know if I can take these side effects, AND the headaches for much longer without going NUTS! {grin}
Any advise?

I've been taking Wellbutrin on and off for several years now. It works for me and my depression and doesn't cause weight gain. Unfortunately, a lot of my hair was gone before I researched it and found that this seems common with many users. I stopped taking it for several months and my hair loss pretty much stopped. Some grew back in around my hairline and my head felt better, but not a significant regrowth on my crown. It definitely stopped coming out like it was. The improvement took about 3 months. I started taking it again and within 2 months I noticed that I was again loosing hair. I use Nioxin shampoo which slows it some, but will stop taking it again. In my research I found that some vitamins, scalp massage or yoga where your head is down and you increase blood flow helps. Hair color also helps for several reasons. I found, however, that while on Wellbutrin my scalp was very sensitive and sometimes had a burning sensation. My dose if very low at 75-150 mg per day. What a shame this side effect it is because this is a very effective medication! However, I have no doubt whatsoever that it's causing my hair loss.

An element of the side effects of Singulair that are listed here are musculo-skeletal symptoms. Quinolones such as levaquin are known to cause those issues. Singulair is a quinoline, while not the exact same category, their roots are similar. It makes the possibility that the symptoms have a common cause worth pursuing.

Here is an example of some poor rats in Tokyo that were selected to prove that the symptoms in humans were real. Maybe we should tell the levaquin board that at least some of their problems have been known since 1997.

1: Toxicol Pathol. 1997 Nov-Dec;25(6):635-43.Links
Toxic effects of quinolone antibacterial agents on the musculoskeletal system in juvenile rats.Kashida Y, Kato M.
Drug Safety Research Laboratory, Daiichi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan. JDN07402@niftyserve.or.jp

Quinolone antibacterial agents have adverse effects on the musculoskeletal system in humans, consisting mainly of myalgia and arthralgia, and additionally of tendon disorders and rhabdomyolysis. The present study was conducted to examine the toxic effects of quinolones on the musculoskeletal system in juvenile rats using light microscopy, 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Single oral administration of 900 mg/kg pefloxacin (PFLX) or levofloxacin (LVFX) was found to induce lesions in the muscle + fascia, tendon + sheath, and synovial membrane, in addition to articular cartilage in the fore- and hindlimbs. Articular cartilage lesions were not necessarily associated with changes in the muscle, tendon, and synovial membrane, or the reverse. Among all lesions, the ankle and elbow showed the highest incidence and severity. Changes were more severe in the PFLX than in the LVFX group. Lesions in the muscle + fascia, tendon + sheath, and synovial membrane were similar and characterized by edema and increased number of mononuclear cells, many of which were positively stained with BrdU, as well as vascular endothelial cells in the Achilles tendon sheath and synovial membrane in the ankle. Electron microscopic examination revealed an increased number of fibroblasts and macrophages and collagen deposition in the matrix of the synovial membrane and tendon sheath. Capillary endothelial cells were hypertrophied, increased in number, and stratified. These results suggest that quinolones have toxic potentials in the muscle, tendon, and synovial membrane in addition to articular cartilage, and that local vascular hyperpermeability may contribute to the development of these lesions.

This medication was a life-saver for me when I first started taking it 7 years ago. Unfortunately, every so often it would stop being effective. My Dr. would up the dosage until I was on the highest and could go no future. So I set out to titrate off, which I did very slowly, but it was hell. The worst was when I was finally done. I felt like a junkie. I was shaking, having crazy brain zaps that made me feel like I was being shocked every time I'd close my eyes. I was sweating like a pig. My sleep was was filled with terrifying nightmares that left me screaming out in my sleep. I am 5 weeks off and still experiencing nightmares, and a few mind-zap things-but nothing like they were when I first started to come off. Yoga and meditation seemed to be the only things that helped. Each day I wanted to take it again just to feel normal. No one can believe that a common SSRI can have such horrible withdrawal effects, so I am on a quest to educated everyone I know.

I've been taking Prilosec since late 2003 and it hasn't been until now that I've linked all the strange symptoms I've been having to taking Prilosec. I've been having anxiety, heart pulps, strange, stabbing headaches that come and go in a flash, occasional sensitivity to light, pain behind the eye, dizziness, fogginess, and fatigue. I've been to the doctor several times over the past few years hoping to find a cause. After many blood tests, x-rays, heart tests, etc, he couldn't find anything and just said anxiety and that I should try yoga. It surprises me that he wouldn't even suggest that I try coming off the Prilosec to see if that could do it since it appears that many people experience these strange symptoms.

I've stopped taking Prilosec today and I'm hopeful that all of this will clear up and I can get back to normal.

I am a very active 54 years old. I work out with weights and also do a little yoga to keep flexible. On May of 2007 my Dr. started me on Simvastatin to lower my cholesterol and the liver enzyme test one month later showed everything to be fine. I had noticed that my left shoulder and upper arm was sore and sometimes would hurt so bad that I would wake at night. I figured I had worked out to much or slept wrong. After a few week of pain that didn’t seem to go away I started taking Advil 3 times a day. I couldn’t lift my left arm up over my head or scratch my back, I also found that I was forgetting things and work was hard to keep up with. I took the month of July off from work and only did the necessary stuff I had to do (self-employed) In the end of August my family and I took a week’s vacation and by the end of the week I was aching all over my body. My feet was in so much pain, I needed to massage them before getting out of bed in the morning, my arm and even my thigh muscles hurt. I couldn’t understand WHY, the only thing could be the medication… I stopped and saw the DR. when I got back. He sent me for x-rays of my feet, but everything was fine. So he put me on 40 mg of Lipitor instead. I did tell him, that when my body felt less sore I would start the Lipitor medication. Well it wasn’t until late November that I thought I better start, but only after 7 days of taking the Lipitor I felt excruciating pain all over. I was hurting in my arms (triceps) had feet cramps and could hardly walk. I called the DR. and told him I will not take this medication any more. It’s been 3 months since I stopped (almost 6 if not counting the one week in November) I’m slowly getting better with my normal work out, but I still do not have flexibility of my left arm and I occasionally have cramps in my feet. I have no doubt that the STATINS medication is very bad for you.

I am 35 yrs old. My son was born 7/2/6 I got the Mirena inserted on 8/31/06. Right after I had my son. My body doesn't react well to the birth control pill and did not want to get pregnant. My Gyn said there is a slow release of hormone so I wouldn't even notice any changes. My period was off but I just had my son. In March I went to my primary and she put me on Zoloft since I was experiencing anxiety, a constant flush, and insomnia (kinda feel like your going crazy at certain times of day). I never had these before giving birth (and its not the stress of my son). They did blood work it came back fine. I took yoga, acupuncture and Zoloft, nothing is working 18 months later I went to my primary office and seen a nurse practitioner and she said take the Mirena out-she herself had certain side effects that I had. My Gyn says that is not the cause, it could be the Zoloft. How confusing is all this. I am really considering having it removed soon. I want to feel myself again. I'm sure my husband does too. Anyone with info. on after the Mirena is removed and how I might feel would be helpful. At least I have idea what might lie ahead even though every one is different.I am so glad I found this site. Ladies take care of yourselves. There will be happiness again.

I am going to begin taking 25 mg of Topamax at bedtime tonight. After reading all of these posts I am a scared. I was prescribed Topamax for bipolar disorder. I am currently taking Lamictal as well. I always gain weight on psychotropic drugs and need to lose about 15 lbs (all of which I have gained over the course of being on Lamictal). Any who-my psychiatrist said that this medication may help counteract the weight gain I have experienced. Although I do not consider my self an overeater now. I do hope that it helps me to not like the taste of sodas though. I am addicted to Mt. Dew and caffeine, which I wouldn't mind stopping. Anyway, I am supposed to increase my dosage by 25mg per week until I reach 75mg per day. I am also supposed to go back and see my doctor before I increase the dosage beyond 75mg. I just hope I do not have the horrible side effects I have read here. Some of them I know I can deal with especially if they are temporary but the anxiety/depression/shortness of breath/lack of energy/morbid thoughts are the main ones that concern me. My psychiatrist said that with this medication I should drink plenty of water. He said that it could cause headaches and other side effects if I'm not sure to drink plenty of fluids with this medication. So, I am planning on hydrating myself really well today before taking it this evening. I'll post back and let you know how the side effects are going. Is anyone else on a combination of Lamictal and Topamax or on it for bipolar disorder? I'd like to hear more of your experiences.

I was treated with lamictal for bi-polar II . It did help even out my mood which swung to deep depressions and rare (unfortunately) hypomania. After an increase in dose I had so much pain in my back and hip joints that I needed help to sit down, stand up, tie shoes, lift anything. I am only 40!

I stopped the med in June, but the pain is still there. Continually, not as bad as it was before, for sure, but I still have to prop myself up for simple lean over tasks, and my hip joints throb. I have to support myself to flip in bed or get out. I was doing yoga, and running as well before I started lamictal. I was extremely flexible!, and now can still barely touch my toes.

has anyone else had this lingering pain?

I am taking 25mg of toprol for SVT/MVP started about 6 months ago. started having mild joint pain while doing yoga, just thought I was getting older (I am 46) joint pain started getting much worse in my hips and spreads down my legs when walking for more than 20-30minutes. I have had breast cancer and am concerned it may be a tumor I am scheduled for a bone scan on Monday but after reading the messages on this site I feel much better that it may not be bone cancer and might be this medication. time will tell.

Hi Two Girls Mom what are brain zaps? Towards the end of being on it, I would be talking and mid sentence I would completely forget what I was talking about. Just wondering if that's the same thing?

To all of the other ladies out there, if you gained weight, how long did it take to lose it? I gained about 30 lbs in 3 months. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Just wondering if I'm going to now be fat forever or if it will go away. I'm doing Yoga 3 hrs. a week and running or walking 2-3 times.

Thanks,
Hill

Hey Everyone, I'm really sorry to hear about all the problems everyone is having. I feel fortunate because mine aren't as severe as others. I do have mood swings, at times I feel like I am totally out of it and in a numb state, other times I'm very energetic and have a super HIGH sex drive. I refuse to take any medication except for a daily viatmin and fiber for IBS (which I think was caused by BC) I know that it's just a matter or clearing these darn hormones out of my system, then everything will be back to normal!

twogirlsmom- keep your chin up! I find that doing yoga and exercise helps a lot, I start my day off by doing that. I also have refused to sleep any longer than necessary, otherwise I feel tired and depressed all day. When I feel panic coming on, I use all my internal power to ignore it and quickly find something else to focus on such as the TV, music, cleaning, reading, etc... You will be fine in time!

Oh yes, I am strongly considering an IUD, my husband doesn't like condoms that much, either do I, and I definitely need some form of birth control. I also do not want to consider the morning after pill, I don't believe in that. Has anyone had an IUD prior to having children? How was it?

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO. I too have experinenced all the negative side effects of lupron. Ladies!! We must stick together. If you have Endo, join a local support group. There are some in almost every town. Search the internet. You will find them. I just want to bring up alternative options that have helped me. Maybe they can help you too. Dont want to sound too new age but yoga has really helped my back pain. Also looking into Acupunture which has helped me before but unfortunitly is not covered by my insurance. (Even though its proven to help). My chiropracter is covered so she is trying to incorporate acupuncture and massage therapy. Evening primrose oil can help. For severe pain, I take Naproxin which helps me much more than than Ibuprofen. There is a convention every year on Endo, Im going to try to go. We must communicate and be vocal to our insurance companies and to the public. There is just not enough press about this female disease. I also found out that I have Hypothyroid, dont know if its
all related. Its all hormonal and would not suprise me.

I'm 24 with Endo, I'm getting my 2nd shot on the 16th of Dec.
I am dreding it! I don't think I can go another 3 months. I guess I have to, so I don't get the "Endo pain". Most importantly I'm taking it, so I don't become infertial. I'm looking forward to having a baby. I can't handle all of the symtoms; like hot flashes and then I suddenly get very cold! My sexual feeling is gone, I'm tormenting my boyfriend from the mood swings. There is so much pressure in my head. I get very forgetful and dizzy. I can't sleep at night. I think crazy thoughts. I have bad aches in my back and neck I thought about yoga to help the aches. I can't wait for it to all be over!! Please feel free to email me with any comments at ******
I'm glad to know that I'm not crazy after reading all of your comments.
