Wow and I thought i was the only one having issues. I've been on loestrin now 4 months. 1st month regular period, 2nd month had it twice in the same month not heavy very light spotty. Am not accustomed to not having a period my periods consist of heavy 10-14 days flow I would go thru a pack of overnights in about 3-4 days. Now this is month 4 and I was due to have my period 2 days ago and no sign. I've had leg cramps and spasm in my back the last couple of night didn't know where that came from. Mood swings my husband is having trouble with doesn't know if it's post parturm depression or from the pill. Am gonna give it 2 more months if it doesn't regulate itself I think it's not for me. Oh and I had hair loss the first 3 months. It started growing back recently. No migraines thank god. And my sex drive is like a yoyo one moment I want to rip my cloths off the next I don't want my husband anywhere near me??

Tomorrow will be my last day of the first pack of Loestrin, but during my 3rd week I got a period. Is this NORMAL? I am not used to taking a daily medication and I forget to take it at the same time everyday, even though I normally try to take it when I wake up in the morning. I wear a panty liner because I have been spotting for the past few days, even after the "regular" period was over

I had Mirena put in on Aug 15th 08. To start with I hated it. I bled for a month straight and I was tired all the time. Now things are getting better. I have not had a regular period since having it put in. I bleed a little after sex but other than that no symptoms. I don't have much of a sex drive but I didn't before I had Mirena either so I don't think that is a side effect. As for any cramping or mood swings I don't have any of those either. Now I am extremely tired and sometimes moody but I am also the mother of a one year old so I feel that explains that. If anyone's symptoms go on for longer than a few months then I would suggest having it taken out as this may not be for everyone.

Anyone have room for my wife. I have had enough. She is sometimes pleasant but most of the time a real bitch. She has not connected the dots between the Femcon and her horrible mood swings. Sex was scarce enough but now I have almost forgotten why I liked it so much. PLEASE HELP! If she stopped today how long until I get her back?
(fyi: I am signed in under my wife's account. She will be so proud of me. I hope I survive! Pray for me please.)

Well I had Mirena for 15 months and had it removed almost 6 weeks ago. With Mirena I had mood swings, bloating, nausea every night (toward the end), was thirsty, soooo tired, mild cramping, and I'm sure I'm not remembering everything....so I was hoping all my problems would go away as soon as I got it out, but I feel like it's worse! I'm a hormonal mess, crabby, angry, depressed on and off. I'm still so tired, bloated, my fingers are so puffy in the mornings I can hardly get my rings on, and I've gained weight since having it out! I had a period that started 2 days after having it removed that lasted a week, and haven't had another since (I was expecting it last week). From what I've read here and on other forums it sounds like you can't expect a regular period right away. What have others' experiences been after having it out? How long did it take for your period to be normal again? (If ever!?)

I have recently taken the NUVARING out this past Saturday...I WILL NEVER use it again. I've been on it for about 5 months...and I never had a regular period with it. This last period I had lasted 29 days...It ended finally after I took the ring out. I followed schedule like the doctor told me, but sometimes I still got a regular period even though the ring was in. The nuvaring completely killed my sex drive...I also experienced myself going crazy...I've been off the nuvaring for 5 days now...and I'm starting to feel like my old self again!

I have been on Aviane since January. I started taking it for extremely painful cramps that induced vomiting and dizziness. I wasn't taking it for birth control, acne control, or anything else. It worked wonders for my cramps. I had a regular period, no spotting, and no excruciating pain. That being said, the rest of my life was awful. I break out like crazy, put on a little bit of wait (nothing to really complain over), and worst of all, I have been in a hazy slump since I started taking it. I wouldn't say its been depression, but it is definitely a fatigue that I can't shake. I don't care about my friends or boyfriend or family until something or someone makes me aware of my blatant rudeness and apathy and then I burst into tears and cry for a whole day. Its awful, and I plan to not start the new pack on Sunday. I'm cutting birth control entirely and hoping it will change things. Has anyone else done this? I'm kind of scared of the side effects of stopping...

I'm 18 and had my first son June 4, 08; I got the mirena put in late june 08. This is the worst choice I've ever made health wise. It started when it was inserted - severe cramping like I was having a miscarriage or something. They made no mention of this before hand. I started having spotting and constant light cramping since the day I had it put in for the first 3 weeks. When the time comes for my regular period I get severe cramps that nothing relieves. I've used ALL the ibuprofen and Norco pills that have been prescribed to me in 2 weeks. I'm out of all OTC ibuprofen even though it offers no relief. I called the OBGYN and they say the cramping is normal and just to take two ibuprofens (the ones I had which were 300 mg each) EVER 6 HOURS.
When I went in for a check up, they said it was normal and it would hurt for the first 2-3 months. I then told them that I took all my prescribed Ibu. and then moved to the norco which seemed to be the only relief as I've tried warm baths, Alieve, Advil, Motrin, sleeping in different ways, hot and cold compresses and nothing. He offered to prescribe me ANOTHER form of Ibuprofen as if he didn't hear me mention I have been taking 600 mgs of Ibu EVERY 6 hours since I had it in. Then he told me all he could say was to try Noproxem and that it was just Alieve. He then just told me as I left pissed off to give it more time.
I'm now passing big clots and bleeding in shades of brown and bright red, have severe cramping bleeding through OVERNIGHT maxi pads that you can supposedly wear for up to 8 hours. But he says everything is normal and just give it time. I'm down to begging my mom for her prescription Hydrocodone and she's beginning to think I have a drug dependency problem even if I go for a few days without mention or thought of one at all. Because of this I'm in pain all the time, losing my hair, constantly tired, depressed because there's nothing I can do for the pain, and I'm gaining back all my pregnancy weight. I'm also a pain to be around because I now have severe mood swings that I didn't even have when I was pregnant. And now I have to wait to get my medicaid again to have it removed. As of right now the cramping is so bad I'm on the edge of going to the ER to get it taken out.
The commercials are a lie and every user comment of mirena are just like mine or worse. I would not recommend this to ANYONE (unless I hated them enough). Mirena is a form of torture.

I’ve been on Loestrin 24 fe for a year now, and I started it because I had so much breakthrough bleeding with Orthocyclen. Strange side effect of Loestrin is that I have never got a period since I started (1 year), even though I follow the directions completely. Anyone else had this experience? The worst side effect I would say is that I have absolutely no sex drive. None. It’s very depressing to me and confusing to my husband. I haven’t found anything that helps. I’m afraid to try another pill for the chance of having worse side effects. Any suggestions?

Girls, I thought I was going crazy until I started reading all of these posts on the side effects of Yasmin. I have been off and on different types of pills for 15 years and have NEVER experienced anything like this. My breasts hurt so badly I can't even touch them, I have gained weight, am bloated, EXHAUSTED and so moody and off sex that my husband doesn't know what to think anymore. All of this after only 12 days of this nightmare pill. My doctor and another gyno friend told me to "ride it out" until I finish the pack and go back on Yasminelle (I live in Europe, don't know if it exists in the States), which I was on until last month. I cannot fathom taking this for another 10 days but am also worried about stopping a pill mid-cycle.
I have found all of this so surprising since I am quite healthy and have never experienced side effects from anything before (though it should be said that I have never taken tons of medication since I am rarely sick). I am also really active, always out and about, doing a million things at once and while I get tired like everyone else I am used to long, active days. Since I started this pill I have been going to sleep at 9.30pm and getting up at 7am!!!! And I'm still tired when I wake up!!!!
I have several girlfriends who have been taking Yasmin for years and absolutely love it, so I thought something was really wrong with me. I actually considered taking a pregnancy test though I think it's highly unlikely since I was on another pill last month and had a regular period two weeks ago.
I just can't wait for this all to be OVER. Something is wrong with this pill and my body.

I went on Loestrin 24 Fe about 5-6 weeks ago to try and lighten and/or alter my cycle. I compete in sprint triathlons and had one coming up in September when I calculated that I would be on day 2 of my regular cycle (day two has been a ridiculously heavy day for me over the past year...I am 39 and possibly heading into menopause?). Doc said to start Loestrin either first Sunday after onset of my period or the first day of my period. I started on the Sunday, mid-ish cycle of my regular period. I never stopped bleeding. The bleeding did get lighter than a normal period for me, but I have been bleeding for almost 6 weeks now and the last three days have been severe. I am absolutely stopping this pill. I have read too many negatives about it and not only has it made me bleed more, I believe it has made me incredibly mean (usually a happy go lucky girl) and I am so tired and having trouble getting motivated to train, which I normally LOVE to do. Instead of helping me get through the triathlon, I am now thinking I have to back out because I am weak and can't sustain the stamina necessary to continue training at the appropriate level. And my husband and kids want their "nice" wife/mommy back. I've been really short tempered, bloated and lethargic. As I type this I realize and can't believe how much I have changed since I began taking it. Definitely not worth it especially since I wasn't using it for birth control (husband had a vasectomy 2 years ago!) Also, I have noticed a major drop in libido.
Does anyone have any information about how long it takes to return to normal after stopping this nasty drug?
Susan

This is my first month trying the Nuvaring. My Dr. gave me a sample to try. Well, so far the side effects haven't been too horrible. I do notice I am a little sensitive but that could just be me. However, I have been on a nightmare of some modified "period" all month! I started my period July 10th and that same day I put the ring in. Normally my period last about 4-5 days. After 5 days I was spotting lightly which changed to regular period flow, then spotting again. Now I have some weird sticky brown discharge which has a slight odor. SO embarrassing! I don't even want my husband to go in the bathroom right after I use it because a slight odor lingers in the air. Sex has been uncomfortable for me. Not because it hurts but because it's so messy with me bleeding and this weird discharge. My poor husband. I really think that when I take it out, it's going to STAY out because I can not deal with these month long crazy periods all the time. Can anyone recommend any other good BC? I haven't been on it for awhile because I had a baby 16 months ago. Thanks.

I have been on Yasmin a month and was actually looking for other info about the pill when I stumbled across this and a few other sites with all these horror stories. It freaked me out quite a bit, considering a lot of the side effects and health problems did not occur in most stories until the women had been on Yasmin for a while or went off of it.
I had been on birth control for about 7 years (only OrthoTriCyclen) and decided to go off because a) I wanted to give my body a break, b) I had lost my sex drive, and c) I was having mood swings that I was convinced were coming from the pill. The year and a half I was off of it, I felt fine. I just got tired of the irregular cycle and worry of impending baby doom, so I decided to get back on birth control. I had heard from several close friends who were on Yasmin how great it was and how they had no side effects, were feeling great, had breast growth (a plus for me), and overall were very satisfied. I decided to give it a go. So, like I said, it has only been a month. I have not noticed any negative side effects, and I consider myself to be very aware of my body. The only thing I can say is that my breasts did get a little tender throughout the month, but they did grow a good bit as well. My period came the second day of the placebo pills and is what seems to be a regular period. No crazy heavy bleeding, no severe pains. I do have a slight headache, but from time to time I get those with my period, so this is nothing out of the ordinary for me.
I just wanted to post a positive comment so that women who read this information will not be scared to death. All you can do is be aware, track your symptoms and side effects, and if you notice anything fishy, stop taking the pill. I hope this helped.

I am so thankful that I found this site and these words on this drug!
I just started taking Loestrin 24; 2 weeks ago. Within a week I started "flowing." At first it was just spotting then it started into a full period bleeding. More so has been the extreme water bloating in my fingers, hands and feet; they feel heavy & sore/swollen. It's feels like I'm gaining weight or holding in everything in my body and it is swelling up. As well as the cramping in my stomach and back- that is worse than a regular period's symptoms off the pill. And the extreme headache pressure I've had for two days!
I have been off the pill for the last 5 years and only decided to get back on a pill to control my acne (hormone levels) and the strength/length of my periods. Reading these remarks and comments on this sites, makes me want to stop NOW- in taking this. I'm only a little into 2 weeks of this pill- and it sounds like from the comments posted that it can get even worse months on. I'm a little scared to stop taking now, but I'm going to as of today! Thanks all for sharing and making me feel like I'm not the only one experiencing this crazy-ness!

I went to see my PCP in March 25th 2008 because my allergy. My pcp told me she'll give one injection since it's allergy season and it would make me fell better. She didn't tell me what kind of injection it was and I trust her.
The next day I was having panic attacks while I was outside on the street.
I couldn't breath because my heart was beating so fast, and I felt "pacey" all day. I just went home hoping the symptoms go away but it only got worse. I couldn't even walk because I was out of balance, my vision got blur and I had massive headache. I assume it was happening because the injection so I called my PCP, but she told me she didn't do anything different. My PCP had a day off so I went to the ER that afternoon. I had cat scan done in case I had stroke but my cat scan was clear. The ER dr think it's side effect from the shot.
I called my pcp 2 days later after my visitation to the ER but she never returned my call. Somehow, I couldn't trust my pcp I didn't go back to her.
I was hoping the injection fades away and try to manage my body. I start notice I had anxiety and couldn't sleep at night. I had pretty regular period but I had very irregular period following month and that drove me crazy because I had 2 full periods within a month and I had blood spots. I barely had period following month. I notice that I gain so much weight. I always watch what I eat so I never get out of control with my weight but I couldn't fit into my jeans I used wear. I also notice that I get back pain the side I had shot if I seat for long hours which I never had before. Now my legs are swelling ,numb and have tingling sensation. I was really concern so I call my pcp today to find out what kind of steroid she injected me. The medical assistant told me that doctor can't not give the name and he was giving me ridiculous excuses to not to give me the name of the injection . I was so upset and didn't make sense to me. I asked for the dr. and asked my pcp the name of the shot. It was "Kenalog". I googled the name and I found this site. I am really scare and I am upset at my pcp that she never mention what the injection was and never discuss the side effects with me. If I knew about the side effects back then I would never let her give me the shot.
I never signed anything with my pcp. My pcp promise to call me back today. I even left her a message again to call me but haven't heard from her yet.
I believe FDA is responsible for this steroid but doctors are holding great responsible also!
How long dose it takes to get back to normal? I would greatly appreciate for any information!
Dose anyone knows powerful lawyer?

I had my Mirena out now for 13 days and it is amazing the change in me! I had insurance, so for me it was a no brainer but I would highly recommend anyone who doesn't have it to suck up the payment (sorry, I don't mean it sound rude) But it is sooooo worth it! I have NO ACNE anymore, I have NO MOOD SWINGS (I am not hollering at my kids' over stupid things any more) My clothes fit nicely again and I feel like I look good again (which I am sure is all the effects of all the above!) I did bleed for about 7 days, but it was like a regular period except a brighter red and a little more clots yet no cramping and haven't bled since. When I got my Mirena removed, I got fitted for a diaphragm because I didn't want any more hormones in me yet..aside from the fact I am 35 and a smoker.
I suggest ANYONE who has it, with or without Insurance needs to remove this! I wouldn't have the $500 to remove it either, but keep in mind, your overall health is worth it!!

I started on Balziva a little over a year ago and also found myself moody, easily angered, etc. I couldn't stop crying for over a month and was diagnosed with depression and had to start taking Sertraline for that. I also had a hard time with my period. Every other month I would having spotting the week before I started, bad cramps, bad bloating and would never start at the same time. I also had two months where I had a period that started 4 days early and then went into my regular period schedule. Two months ago the pharmacy just happened to give me Zenchent and things just happen to be working much better (at least for now). I made myself go off of the depressant a couple weeks before they changed my pill and my mood and periods - so far so much better.

I have been taking YAZ for about 4 months. I hate it. I am 23 and started taking yasmine when i was 17. Before that I had 2 week periods with very severe cramping. It would cause vomiting and diahreah. I stayed on yasmine for 4 years and I was extremely happy with it. When I was 21 I had a lyproscopy and was diagnosed with endometriosis. It is the cause for my severe cramping and heavy periods. I then was on a shot called lupron for 6 months then started lo estrin. Hated that, switched to YAZ. My symptoms include weight gain, acne (which i have never had) on my face and chest, severe breast tenderness (felt like my nipples were being pinched with clothes pins or something), extreme mood swings (i spend hours crying and being angry), so tired, depression, intermitent nausea, dehydration, fatigue etc. I also have not had a regular period since beginning. My last official period was in November, I then had some spotting and then I had no period for about 10 weeks. I tested over and over for pregnancy but I was not. I finally had a period and it was like i was 17 again. I am just miserable. The ONLY positive is that I gained a cup size!! I was a 34A now I'm a B! I asked my doctor for yasmine but she said she wanted me to try yaz because it has a lower estrogen dose which is favored for endo. I don't care, i would honestly take longer REGULAR periods instead of feeling crazy. I am going back to yasmine. I like my doctor but I will find a new one if she won't help me. YAZ and Lo estrin 24 were both horrible!

I started taking Femcon FE about 4 months ago. I haven't had a good nights sleep since. Other side effects I have suffered from are nausea (after taking the pill no matter what time of day/night), headaches/migraines, VERY low sex drive!!, insomnia, increased appetite!! especially for sweets, extreme fatigue and severe mood swings. I have however, experienced no break through bleeding and have had a very regular period, 28 days to be exact. I love that about the pill but the side effects for me are enough for me to stop taking this pill. My husband mentioned that maybe this pill was causing my insomnia and after doing some research and reading other comments here I feel that it is this pill. So....thanks to all who post here. You have helped me greatly! Now maybe I can get some much needed sleep.....zzzzzzzz....zzzzzzzzz AND SEX!!!! :)

I completely agree with all the other postings that all the women wrote on this website. I have been on Fem Con Fe for 7 months and I have been having severe mood swings and been very angry. I thought it was just my stressful life. I never got my period when I was supposed to. (on the sugar pills) I have no sex drive and am hungry all the time. Now this month, I didn't get my period! I am drawing the line here. No more Fem Con Fe for me.

Gosh, I too freaked out when I started spotting after being on it for 4 days. I am on my 15th pill, and I am still noticing some light browny bloody. I am hoping that it is almost over since I am starting to see it become mucus a bit.
I am always thinking of the worst thing and it drives me nut. I always wonder whether it is just the pill or could it be (cervical and ovarian cancer). I know I am crazy, but having 2 young kids and a husband make me worry a lot more. BTW: I am 28 years old. When I first started, I also felt nausea but never threw up. Another thing that is also bothering me is the fact that I feel bloated while I am spotting. My OB is telling me that it will get better after 2-3 months. I am just keeping my fingers crossed!!!!! Before, I started Loestrin24Fe, I was on the mini pill because I was breastfeeding. Now that I have stopped nursing, he gave me this pill to take so that I could have regular period. It is really bothering me to have this long spotting since I am sexually active and I don't want to have sex with the hubby while I am bleeding.... Good luck to you all. I guess we are all in the same boat.....

Recently i got switched from Apri (generic for Yasmin) to Balziva. My new gyno said it would be more effective with the other medications (Lamictal and Zoloft) and would help with pms symptoms. For the past few months that I've been on Balziva I've been very depressed and moody. I have two periods a month, which are very painful, breast pains, headaches, nausea, insomnia and frequent break outs, i thought all of which were normal with the switch. Then i started researching Balziva and other closely related pills and all the results found to be very similar.. all with side effects of depression. If you have depression or any similar disorder, reconsider when taking this medication, I am thinking of switching myself, it's nice to get this information from other women in the same situation.. because I sure didn't get it from my doctor. Of course I can't pin point this straight to this exact drug, but it all started once i got on Balziva, and after reading so many other womens comments it makes a lot more sense, mostly with why I have been so down. I hope this helps anyone else looking for answers

Where do I begin?
I started taking Yasmin almost a year ago (Feb '07). I thought everything was great in the beginning ... sure, I had some headaches (I've always had more headaches anyway) & I would experience some nausea on & off, especially after midnight (generally I'm still awake around then). My gyn told me that it would take awhile for my body to fully get used to it & that seemed reasonable enough.
However, a few months ago things started to get weird. I have always been an anxious person, especially in regards to school. Getting anxious about exams is nothing new for me, so in terms of school I didn't think the pill could be affecting me much. I started to noticing the other month that the week before my inactive pills began just seemed off. Some symptoms associated with my regular period have never gone away. My boobs still swell & hurt, I get bloated & sometimes, I even feel like I stay bloated the majority of the month. Furthermore, I still get nauseous. Just recently I have felt like a total maniac. I have had one spell of depression before, but I knew the reasons for why I was upset. These days, I have felt like my world is ending for no reason. I have had terrible thoughts - just feelings about how awful life is, how people don't matter to me anymore & sometimes, I have wished I would just not wake up. I'm not suicidal, nor would I ever commit suicide. These aren't normal thoughts for me! It makes you feel 100x worse to think things like this & know that this is so unlike the person you are & the beliefs you hold true to you. On top of all this, I have had a hard time being around my boyfriend. I have not wanted to have sex for a couple of weeks now & like other people have said, have begun experiencing the same dryness symptoms. It is terrible. I know he has been worried about me. Furthermore, I noticed my hair falling out a lot more awhile ago, but again my reason for it was because I have long, thick hair. I didn't really think it could be anything. I have tried telling myself there were reasons for everything I have been going through -- i.e. I'm a second year at a large University, 3 states away from my hometown state & there has been a lot of adjusting involved the past year & a half. That's what I have blamed it all on.
Reading this site has made it all suddenly click. Here I was trying to find reasons why I am feeling this way. It's been so confusing & frustrating to not know why you are in so much pain. I am contacting my gyn immediately tomorrow. I almost contacted her awhile back. This website has made it clear to me now that I MUST contact her. Sure, predictable periods have been nice, but they just aren't worth it for all this.
I sure hope that Yasmin is really what to blame in this situation. Has anyone switched to another pill successfully?
Thanks.

I'm soo glad I found this site!! Now I know I am not really crazy... I was on ortho tri cyclen for 6 months then started Yasmin and have been taking it for 3 years to help regulate my period and since starting it my side effects just keep getting worse and worse. I'm 21 years old, very active, outgoing...but I will have SEVERE depression, feelings of hopelessness, bloating, crazy appetite (one day I won't eat at all, the next I'm eating everything), and for the past 3 years I easily get yeast infections and the part that really gets me is that I'm not sexually active and have never been, I only went on the pill to regulate my period. ALSO, since starting the pill I have had really bad problems with my contact lenses...so bad I couldn't even wear them and I had to get lasik surgery because glasses are not an option with me being a gymnastics coach. But all of this started when I got on Yasmin. I enjoy having a short, light, and regular period but the side effects have made me look to another because pill YAZ. My doctor said this pill should help with my symptoms of depression, poor appetite, etc. But is it even worth switching, I wish I didn't have to take anything but I'm afraid I will become irregular again. If I didn't have to be on the pill I certainly wouldn't be!!! Do ALL bcp have the same side effects? Should I try the shot, or the ring? This will definitely be my last month on Yasmin but I don't know what else to take!?

I'd be thrilled to skip a period. Heck, that's why my doctor prescribed Seasonale. The pharmacist, however, gave me Quasense instead. Let's see. It's 2am on Christmas Eve. I have basically been bleeding since HALLOWEEN. This is beyond ridiculous, and I really can't see myself "hanging in there" and waiting for it to stop. If I'm not all-out cramping, then it's just annoying, brown spotting. On top of that, my face has been breaking out since like, the second week of starting it. The insane thing is, I'm on Wellbutrin at the moment-- that pill is noted to decrease appetite and increase sex drive. I'm pretty sure Quasense is canceling THAT out entirely; I'm always hungry, and if I never had sex again I'd probably be thrilled. Worst. Birth Control. Ever.
