I had my IUD removed 2 days ago and so far, so good (had it for 5 years so it had to come out)... I've had no cramping, no spotting, and no headaches - I wonder how long it will take my body to get back to normal? For the first 6-9 months after insertion, I had spotting but since then - I've had no periods and no PMS... After reading all these comments though - I'm not sure if I can really blame my weight gain, lack of sex drive, and periods of depression on the IUD but am curious to see if any of that changes the longer it is out... I mean can something like that REALLY cause that many problems? Anyway, I have no other options of b/c because I have a blood-clotting disorder and cannot take anything with high amounts of estrogen (no pills, no shots, no patch, etc)... I refuse to use a diaphragm so it looks like condoms for now... I'm glad I found this site though... :)

As a follow-up to my post earlier today about my daughter's severe reactions to Avelox.... I wanted to add that we weren't given a prescription -- the doctor actually put a weeks worth of samples into a bag, individually wrapped pills. So even IF there was a warning on the box or a pamphlet included with this toxic drug -- we wouldn't have gotten them. Doctors get these samples from the drug companies and hand them out like candy with no regard for their patients and obviously no knowledge of what they are giving them. This is very wrong in my book. If anyone knows of anything that can be done to stop this drug from being given out - please post here.

I've Been Taking The Pill, I'd Say For About Three Months. I'm Sixteen Years Old. It Has Caused A Lot Of Problems For Me. I've Had Weight Gain, And Irregular Bleeding. Before, I Took Yaz. I Had To Get That Switched Because Every time I Had Sexual Intercourse I Would Bleed. Now On Femcon, I Just Randomly Bleed. Last Month, I Probably Went Sixteen Days With A Period, && Now, I'm Eleven Pills Into The Pack And Heavily Bleeding Again. I Would Say, That Since On The Pill, I've Gained About Ten To Twelve Pounds. Anyone Else Have Symptoms Like This?

I've been taking Omeprazole on and off for 6 months. I've been feeling increasingly depressed, anxious and apathetic - unable to get out of bed in the morning and having difficulty concentrating. Had initially thought that I was feeling like this because of the adic reflux and ulcers... having read these posts I now think that it could be because of the pills themselves. I'm going to come off them immediately and stick to herbal supplements and controlling my diet.

I THINK IT IS VERY SAD THAT EVERY TIME SOMEONE GETS UPSET OR MAD THAT THEY THINK PILLS ARE AN ANSWER. I STARTED TAKING GEODON THREE YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF SEVERE ANGER. IF MY DOCTOR WOULD HAVE ACTUALLY PAID ATTENTION TO ME SHE WOULD HAVE REALIZED THE ANGER WAS FROM GETTING DROPPED ON MY HEAD AND YELLED AT FROM MY FIANCE. ONCE I GOT A HOLD OF MYSELF GOT AWAY FROM THE BOYFRIEND AND GOT MY S#*% TOGETHER I SLOWLY AND I STRESS SLOWLY WINGED MYSELF OFF OF THE GEODON. WHEN I GOT DOWN TO 20 MG AT NIGHT I STARTED HAVING CHEST PAIN AND THE PHARMACIST TOLD ME THAT IT ALTERS THE WAY YOUR HEART FUNCTIONS. YES YOU WILL FEEL CRAPPY FOR A LITTLE WHILE BUT THIS DRUG IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. IT IS FAIRLY NEW SO NO ONE ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THE LONG TERM EFFECTS ARE BUT IF THEY ARE WORSE THAN THE SHORT TERM(HEART ATTACK AND MUSCLE DISTORTION) THAN THEY NEED TO TAKE IT OFF THE MARKET.

I stopped using the NuvaRing the first period after I broke up with my boyfriend. I just wanted to be off bc and let my hormones get back to normal. I haven't experienced any depression (maybe a little because of the breakup), but I've been spotting like crazy! It'll last a couple days, then go away. I think it'll be over and then it'll come back. I used to have horribly irregular periods, pre-NR, so its kind of irritating. I liked the NV when I was on it, but I did have some discharge, moodiness, and cramps when I was on it. But the discharge was the worst. My jerk ex actually told me that he was "grossed out by my vagina" (actual quote, one of the reasons for the breakup). My doctor told me it was normal, and I had switched to the ring because the pills I took before that did the same thing. Anyway, I think all bc is just going to give us unfavorable side effects. What can we do? I guess just grin and bear it.

I was given Levaquin for a prostate infection. They prescribed me 750 mg for 30 days. I have been off of the drug for 3 weeks and I still have pain in my tendons. Shoulder tendons, knees, elbow and hands. How long can this last? I feel like I am dying.

I have had great experiences with Levothyroxine. I am no longer tired, achey, grumpy, constipated. I feel great. I am only 27 years old and got my hypothyroidism from having my first child. I am excited that my levels are now normal after 3 months (TSH was 25.89). I was on .50 mcg now I am on .75. Feel great!
I am a medical technician and have found that a lot of people who start on a certain medication for hypothyriodism, such as Synthroid - do not fair well if they have to switch. My doctor always says NOT to switch...not EVER. She repeats over and over again to check my prescription every time I receive it. That means checking the pills against each other, because hypothyroidism medication is one of the highest missed - filled prescription. If I were anyone who has had to switch, I would demand to be put back on your original meds. Have your physician write up your symptoms with the new meds and make a recommendation to the insurance company that you NEED synthriod.

Hi Everyone, I am so happy i found this site. I feel just a little better that maybe this Femcon Fe is prob working the right way. Doctor had told me I has polycystic cysts on my left and right ovary so he put me on Femcon Fe. I am 30 years old and I was never on any type of birth control pill in my life (this would be the first time). I have been on this pill for almost a month now. A month ago when i went tomy GYN he had said that the pill would help stop the bleeding (prior to this I had been bleeding for maybe a month). A few days later I did stop bleeding but a few days before dec 26 I had been spotting (on and off). On Dec 27th I started bleeding (my period i guess), its Jan 5th now and I am still bleeding...and cramping (been cramping everyday). I feel as if I am bleeding a lot, been changing my pad a lot. I don't know if this is because I just started this pill and it may change later or what? I panic so much about things like this...is anyone having these same effects or had?

I have been taking Tri-Sprintec for 3 months. I switched because my insurance does not cover birth control and I was paying $50 a month compared to $9. But it is not worth saving the money. Since taking Tri-Spritec I have had a 7 pound weight gain, I have terrible mood swings and have feelings of depression. There are days when I can't even stand myself. I get angry at everything and everyone. I also have no sex drive and have days where I just want to be alone. I am going to stop taking these pills they are not worth it.

Took liquid fosamax for the first time Monday morn. By Friday evening I felt like a truck hit me, from my neck to my hips I was in such pain I could hardly move. My rib cage feels like its filled with bricks. No more of this fosamax for me. With all I have been reading, here and on webmd, its hard to believe nothing is done. It's all a money think and I am sick of doctors trying to push every drug there is on you. Did you ever watch TV for a few hours and count how many drug ads are on?? If it was up to them, we would each be on 20 pills a day.

This is crazy...I had this IUD place on 12-2-08 exactly 1 month later to the date & I'm starting to experience some if not all of the same symptoms I'm reading about. My husband had a vasectomy after our last child so, I'm not using it for BC but, more less because I had such horrible periods. So, in order to bypass a hysterectomy my Kaiser doctor suggested Mirena. The procedure was painful even with the anesthetic I was like oh my Gosh!! (I wasn't even told to come back in 6 weeks to have a checkup only if I was having problems) I had cramping for about 1 day then after that I thought all was good. Well, that's what I thought until my husband and I had sex since the procedure. During the climax I experienced such a painful feeling in my uterus as if it was spasms, squeezing or a really hard cramp. The pain was so severe I had to stop in the middle of sex & couldn't continue. It did this about once or twice every time we had sex then, it stopped. Now the sex is amazing. My SEXUAL DRIVE has really increased. About a week ago, I was feeling overwhelmed with my daughter's Bday & Xmas. I was really tired just really exhausted. I stayed in the house for 3 days straight. Didn't feel like getting out of bed, getting dressed, going anywhere, cooking or doing anything. I just wanted to lay in bed. I really didn't know or understand what was going on. I told my husband I didn't feel depressed or nothing I just didn't feel like doing anything. Well, now I know I was depressed. I've never felt or had any experience of this sort. Then, on yesterday I had alot of lower back pain, headaches along with cramping in my R-ovary. Not to mention the irregular spotting since the IUD has been placed. I knew I would have irregular spotting but, how long is irregular going to be irregular. And after reading several blogs I'm starting to reconsider this. I"ve had alot of issues with BC starting with the pills (forgetting to take them), the DEPO shot (would not recommend to a dog), the Patch & now the Mirena. MayB, it's time to leave all of this along and just get the hysterectomy. But, wait won't that throw me into menopause at an early age. I'm only 31. Not sure what to do?

I have been taking Lisinopril 10 mg for over 3 years to regulate my BP. That is just fine. However over the last 3 months I have developed a pain in my left shoulder and rotater cup. I am going to chalk this up to a change in the brand of Lisinopril since I had no issues before changing to the 90 day supply for $10.00 vs what I was getting before. Looks like I might have gotten more than I bargained for.

The pills I have right now have the RX 533 on one side.

I have been on Ovcon pills on and off since I was 17. I am now 20 and i can say that I have gained nearly 70 lbs since starting this pill. I have extremely bad headaches,im always tired w/ horrible mood swings, and lots of bloating!!!!!
This pill was the worse decision i have ever made, and I never knew that all of these things were caused by the pill until I read all of these complaints, and they are the exact same as mine. It is definitely the pill!!!!!!

I started taking Femcon fe in late December of 08. It's been about a year since I've taken any birth control so I was having problems remembering to take them. I did what the pills instructed when you forget and I took 2 pills on the same day. I forgot again to take them and repeated the same thing for 7 days only. I just decided to stop taking them and start fresh when I get my next period. Little did I know I was going to have a blood flow. I thought I was getting my period, but it wasn't red it was a burgundy color. I've been bleeding for 3 days know and it's getting heavier. Another side effect is lack of sleep. I haven't been able to sleep at night. It's been 2 nights and I can't sleep. Also, I have been urinating much more than usual and having bowel movements much more than usual. Anyone experiencing the same things? Cramps, bad headaches and mood swings. After 7 days all this!!! I will not take these pills anymore!

I am very happy that I found this forum because the extreme indigestion, cravings, and bloated feeling that I have experienced from Yas has been crazy. I have only been on this birth control pill for 1 week, but I have already begun to experience the side affects. I was on Ortho - Tri for 10 years but decided to switch when I developed fibroids. My doctor felt that it may help them remain stable. I am not sure that it is worth it. I am not taking any additional pills and will be calling my doctor first thing Monday morning.

Thanks to all for posting your stories.

I am sooo glad that I found this website!!! I have had so many of these symptoms, unfortunately for a lot longer than some of you other women. I've been on Aviane for about a year. The pharmacy automatically gave it to me instead of Alesse. I have a very stressful job as a 911 dispatcher so I though most of the side effects were from stress. I read an article in a magazine about how birth control effects your sex drive and started doing some research..... come to find out its not from stress!!!! I called and made an appointment with my doctor immediately!!! Although she told me that the symptoms that I had aren't normally caused by birth control, she switched me to Ortho Tricyclen Lo. It has already made such a difference!!! The mood swings are gone, Im not overly emotional or angry or erratic. I don't explode at the drop of a hat, I feel soooo much more mellow and in control. My sex drive has come back in full force!! My husband and I have had more sex in the last month since I've switched pills than we've had in the past like 6 months. He too has noticed a lot of changes and definitely agrees with me that it is worth it to pay the extra money each month to have a good pill and have me feeling better. I wish I would have thought about switching birth controls sooner. Aviane is terrible!!! It will make you into a craaazzy person!!

I am 18 years old and have been on Loestrin 24 fe for over a year to regulate periods. I had not done much research before taking this and I wish I would've. At first everything was well besides the weight gain. My periods were short and I had no cramps. After a few months of being on this bc i was extremely moody and depressed. I was never like this before. I now find myself to be tired and exhausted even after a good nights rest. When I get to the brown pills in the end of the pack I get some type of period but not enough to call a flow or even to need a tampon. This is simply not the right bc for me. I'm glad i came across this site to see a lot of other people are experiencing the same side effects. I will be getting off of this nightmare in a pack just as soon as I get to an obgyn. Do the research before you start taking any type of bc.

I was using the NuvaRing for two months before quitting it yesterday. It caused me to have alopecia and now I have a bald spot three inches in diameter. I'm super sensitive to all hormones. I have tried 10 different bc pills in the past 7 years - all with bad results, but never this bad. Not worth losing hair for.

Shame on me... I had read similar reviews when I was prescribed NuvaRing a year ago, and thought "Side effects vary among women", but the general consensus seems to be that WE are the majority, not the "occasional" exception.

I have been experiencing many of the same disastrous effects of the Ring for the past 12 months I have been on it. Depression, ZERO SEX DRIVE, headaches, intense mood swings that lead to physical aggression, frequent (nearly daily) uncontrollable crying, anxiety, more vaginal discharge, pain after sex (on the rare occasion that it DOES happen) and overall a poor outlook on life. It's ruining my relationship with a wonderful man, who (bless his heart) is nearly at the end of his rope dealing with me and all the tribulations listed above.

To those of you who thought you were crazy, BEFORE you blame yourself, consider that the Ring may be a contributing factor.
