I am in awe reading all of these comments and to the point of tears due to my new found emotional self. I just made an appointment today with my doctor because this past month has been awful with the amount of side effects I have been coming across. After the appointment, for some strange reason, I decided to look up what the side effects of Femcon were from other people's point of view. Now, I have been on this birth control for quite a while, and in the beginning I had a lot of break through bleeding, but the doctor said it was normal. And I thought that my restless sleeping was because of my stressful life and the amount of activities I was doing in a daily schedule. However, over the past couple months my attitude and mood swings have been out of control. Unfortunately my boy friend of four years has witnessed a side of me that not even I've seen. I have break through bleeding constantly, I'm extremely emotional, sometimes depressed, and I feel nausea after EVERY time I take that pill. If I miss the pill and take it a few hours later or the next morning, I can predict that I will have an emotional outbreak, feel nausea, and have cold sweats. I originally went on this pill to help with the pain of cysts in my ovaries, but this isn't even worth it anymore. I can't wait to tell my doctor to get me off of this stuff as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone for sharing. This has helped clarify my gut instincts.

my granddaughter has been on singulair since she was 5 months old she is now 6yrs old and it does control her asthma, but lately i have noticed a lot of the symptoms posted here. Headache, stomach pains, nightmares, sleepwalking, and the episodes are getting more frequent. When she does this mostly at night it is scary to me especially when she is crying for help and you don't know how to help her. I was searching for something else and was brought to this site, like i was meant to see it and it really scared me. I have already called her doctor and got an appointment for tomorrow. I want her off this medicine as soon as possible.

I received my first gardasil shot this year and was in bed for 2 days with severe cramps. When I went back for my 2nd round of shots I mentioned the severe cramping and my family doctor said the 2 weren't related. At that same appointment she reviewed a complete workup that I had done since she was a new doctor and I was completely healthy except my cholesterol being a little high which I knew was due to eating a lot of fast food at the time b/c of a new work atmosphere. I have now had all 3 shots and recently just went in for my obgyn annual and now I have a yeast infection that a week worth of antibiotics haven't gotten rid of and have to go back for a procedure because I have abnormal cells. I have never had any problems like this and haven't been sexually active in over a year. I am very very worried especially after reading others problems

Hi. I had the Mirena inserted Sept. 8, 08, just 6 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. So for about 4 months now. The last couple of months in a row, I thought I was pregnant. I have had every symptom I normally have when I get pregnant. Took the tests and of course they came back negative. I have 2 kiddos. I used the Depo shot for b/c until now because the hormones in the Depo kept causing my body to feel pregnant. Thus changing my birth control method. Which is what I told my Dr. They seemed to have left out that the hormones in the Mirena are the same as the Depo! Thanks a lot. Also, I have started gaining some weight. Which I have never done before. I look like I'm 4 months pregnant since I've been on this b/c. I have No sex drive what so ever! Also uncommon. My husband can definitely feel the strings during sex, which is painful for him. I've been getting really bad dizzy spells, like fall over from fainting dizzy spells! I most recently have been getting these horrible pressure headaches. I've never had a migraine, not sure if that's what it is. Not to mention running to the bathroom constantly. I'm peeing like a pregnant woman! I've been way more irritable since. I freak out for no reason. I will cry for no reason, and so on. So I decided to do some research and found out apparently I'm not the only one with these side affects. Thank god. I scheduled an appointment to have mine removed on Jan, 22. I can't wait until then. Thank you everyone who has posted on here. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have been on Loestrin24 since I had my six week appointment from having a beautiful baby girl... THIS PILL SUCKS! Its bad enough after you have a baby that you have to have a period for almost six weeks... but I haven't stopped.. Ever since being on the pill I will have like two days I don't spot then two weeks where I spot constantly. I have headaches, backaches.. I am ALWAYS tired which could be from the baby but I NEVER feel rested.. I have constant anxiety and there is too much going on to tell if its just stress or the dang pill! I have a doc appt in a couple of days and I am demanding to be taken off of this pill!

I am sooo glad that I found this website!!! I have had so many of these symptoms, unfortunately for a lot longer than some of you other women. I've been on Aviane for about a year. The pharmacy automatically gave it to me instead of Alesse. I have a very stressful job as a 911 dispatcher so I though most of the side effects were from stress. I read an article in a magazine about how birth control effects your sex drive and started doing some research..... come to find out its not from stress!!!! I called and made an appointment with my doctor immediately!!! Although she told me that the symptoms that I had aren't normally caused by birth control, she switched me to Ortho Tricyclen Lo. It has already made such a difference!!! The mood swings are gone, Im not overly emotional or angry or erratic. I don't explode at the drop of a hat, I feel soooo much more mellow and in control. My sex drive has come back in full force!! My husband and I have had more sex in the last month since I've switched pills than we've had in the past like 6 months. He too has noticed a lot of changes and definitely agrees with me that it is worth it to pay the extra money each month to have a good pill and have me feeling better. I wish I would have thought about switching birth controls sooner. Aviane is terrible!!! It will make you into a craaazzy person!!

Had the Mirena put in on 13 Nov 08 hoping that it would lighten my periods due to fibroids. Did not feel a thing upon insertion but cannot stand the spotting. I have been spotting since having it put in outside of my normal cycle in early Dec and now late Dec earl Jan. I think my husband is more upset than i am being that there is no time for sex because I am either spotting or bleeding. I was though happy with the fact that it lighten my periods because before I was scared to leave the house without fear that I would mess up my clothes. I am considering having it removed thanks to the posts on this website. I have been also getting the symptoms of being extremely tired every day at 3:00. I too have had the breast pain, abdomen pain, excruciating pain in my right knee, and the approximately 10 pounds of weight gain. I am also already overweight and work out 5 times a week so I was really upset over the weight gain. The headaches were not that bad being that I have spent the last 9 years or so having really bad migraines that would put me out of work for at least 3 days at a time. They are nothing compared to migraines to me. I have already made an appointment to have mine removed. I would rather have heavy periods than constantly bleed or spot. Better yet I have already discussed with my doctor about having a partial hysterectomy but wanted to try this first. I am now convinced that I would rather have the partial than to deal with this.

I'd be thrilled to skip a period. Heck, that's why my doctor prescribed Seasonale. The pharmacist, however, gave me Quasense instead. Let's see. It's 2am on Christmas Eve. I have basically been bleeding since HALLOWEEN. This is beyond ridiculous, and I really can't see myself "hanging in there" and waiting for it to stop. If I'm not all-out cramping, then it's just annoying, brown spotting. On top of that, my face has been breaking out since like, the second week of starting it. The insane thing is, I'm on Wellbutrin at the moment-- that pill is noted to decrease appetite and increase sex drive. I'm pretty sure Quasense is canceling THAT out entirely; I'm always hungry, and if I never had sex again I'd probably be thrilled. Worst. Birth Control. Ever.

My Mirena was inserted June of 2008. At first it wasn't bad, I would ignore the symptoms because I thought it was from the change in birth control from depo-provera. But recently I have been tired all the time. I don't want to even have sex. I feel unattractive because of the acne and weight gain. I am ALWAYS hungry. Then all of sudden I always feel a crash...I'm always too tired to do anything or even think! I yell at my husband, son, and I am not able to focus at work. I feel like I'm in a daze!!! want to sleep and never get up. I am so glad I found this forum. I plan on making an appointment with my OB and getting this thing out. I never thought of linking my symptoms to the Mirena. My doctor assured me I would be ok. Now I know the truth! I thought I was pregnant but I also got a negative. Please keep posting your comments!!!

I have been on Yaz for three months, first two were okay, not I totally feel prego, morning sickness, sore breasts, moodiness, weight gain, odd bowels. I tried to talk to my OB Tuesday and she got a page in the middle of my appt. Babies don't wait. She said to keep taking it she'd see me in month. AHHHH I can't do this, I totally broke down to my hubby last night and he said to stop it now. I have two beautiful girls, am 26, and am crazy!
Yaz has made me feel like my gestational diabetes is back, my head hurts often, I am cramping, lower back pain, irritably, want to sleep all the time, am short tempered with my kids....this is nuts!!!! Trying to get ahold of my doctor again, might just go back to my childhood family doctor. Good luck, I was on depo before my second child and had a horrible reaction to it too, even miscarried after I had been off of it for a year and still hadn't had a period. Birthcontrol stinks, I feel like I am poisoning my body, and why, so I don't have another baby. So I am experiancing, nausea, headache, stomach cramps, depression, crazy feelings, irritability, fatigue, sore breasts, decreased sex drive, morning sickness.
Good luck with your decisions.

Quick update....Mirena inserted December 5, 2008. Have had no problems, no spotting or cramping at all. So far no hair loss, bloating or anything else. Will see if these things start up soon. Waiting for the 1st of January when "my monthly" should visit. I have found some positive posts on here that have helped me greatly. I hope this post is able to help someone.

Finally got an appointment with my doctor to get mirena removed. At 25, I don't wish to have kids for at least 5-8 years. My husband and I as a couple are deciding that these symptoms are absolutely ridiculous for a form of birth control We have spoken to a few other doctors, about other options for male forms of birth control (new pill/vasectomy. I have tried all birth controls, and Mirena, has been the worst for me. I just can't wait until the 26th!!! Then I will be Mirena free! :)

After reading all of these posts, I realize I'm not alone. Mirena was the perfect option for me because I'm very forgetful when it comes to medications. What sold me was when I was told it has a 99.9% effectiveness against getting pregnant. I was only told of the good things. After it was inserted i was in SEVERE pain from the cramping, it reminded me of labor contractions. I took 600mg of ibuprofen then layed down and cried myself to sleep. I got it July 28th, 2008. Since then I've been bleeding on and off but more bleeding than not. I get sharp, cramp-like pains in my lower stomach and sometimes vaginal area. I also suffer severe lower back pain. I was bleeding so bad at one point and it was very different from any period I'd ever had so I thought maybe I was miscarrying. I called the doctor and it was rather blown off and I actually got kind of laughed at, saying it's just your body adjusting. I have restless nights and wake up exhausted. I have those far out dreams like you do when you're pregnant, except I'm not. I also get bloated and uncomfortable at times. I've been bleeding now for almost a month straight. It comes and goes, which is very aggravating. I'd almost just thought about getting it taken out and just going with oral birth control that way I'd have a normal period but I love not having the boundaries in the bedroom. I'm giving it the 6months, like they told me it'd take and if all my symptoms are still present I'm considering removal.

I did a lot of research before having Mirena put in. I'm amazed at how many of these women are complaining about Mirena. First off I read up on different types of birth control. I decided to get Mirena because it seems the most effective. I met with 3 different doctors to make sure I was a good candidate for Mirena. I have never had kids which they said would make the insertion painful. When I had it put in it felt like a bad cramp, but it quickly went away. I had light cramps the 1st week, but knew it was normal.
I have read many of these posts and all the negative ones seem to be complaints for absurd reasons. First off, if your doctor does not know anything about mirena, they should not be putting it in. After insertion, you shouldn't have sex for at LEAST a week. The doctors in the U.S. are REQUIRED to tell you both the benefits and the side effects of Mirena. If you are experiencing any abnormalities such as loss of appetite or extreme depression you should be making an appointment to see your doctor not waiting YEARS to finally decide you need help.
Although this is not a side effect of Mirena I thought this post might be useful to others.

I have had my mirena in for almost 2 years now and after reading all of these posts, its really been an eye opener! I bled for 3 months straight, my doc convinced me to keep it in and I did. From then it seemed great. Barely had a period and when I did I would just spot. But now I get headaches frequently and cramping from my abdomen all the way around to my back. I have also had to make 2 trip to general surgery because of severe breast pain and thinking that I had breast cancer. Now, I'm thinking all of this is from the mirena. I have an appointment to have it taken out this month and I cant wait. I have had a decrease in sex drive and have been really tired all the time. I have two children who are 2 and 4 and thought it was due to that, but now I'm thinking its not.

I had my Mirena put in April 2007 - wasn't that painful at all, didn't have any real side effect (so I thought anyway). I has spotting for first couple weeks then nothing. No periods at since May 2007!! But I noticed after the first of this year that my hair was falling out, I always have abdominal pain and cramps. I ended up in the ER this week with severe pain thinking I had appendicitis or something - turns out its an ovarian cyst the size of almost a baseball! The doctor explained it would go away with my "cycle" but since I have NO PERIOD that isn't going to happen and it's to large to reabsorb so I now have to have a surgery to get the cyst removed. THE IUD IS COMING OUT ASAP. Have an appointment Friday.....I'm in so much pain from the cyst though I doubt I'll be able to handle it being removed....if not then right after that surgery it's going, going, GONE! I'd rather have another baby!

I have been on Yasmin since April of this year, 2008. My doctor put me on Yasmin because of a hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS. At first, all I noticed was my periods had become regular and my skin had cleared up. About 4-6 weeks later, I started experiencing EXTREME pain in my right breast. After the onset of the pain, just my right breast became enlarged. A few weeks later I started having chest/heart pains at random times. It started occurring when I would run and that made me really scared. I had the feeling of having a heavy rock on my chest and wasn't able to get a real breath. After an EKG my doctor confirmed that my heart was healthy. Here is a list of some of the other side effects that I noticed: no sex drive, weight gain, TIREDNESS, forgetfulness, cramps in my legs, but only while sleeping, extreme thirst.

I am so grateful that I found this website. It's just awful to hear some many other women complaining of the same symptoms.

Well, Im so happy I read all these postings because I have been going crazy trying to figure out why I have gained so much weight and been so tired! I had my Mirena put in in early September, and I haven't had too much problem with bleeding after the first month, but the weight gain, tiredness, and acne has been terrible! My doctor said that she had talked with some reps. from Mirena and they assured her that the weight gain was NOT from Mirena, but I think thats a load of crap! I think Im going to make an appointment to speak with my doctor about taking this thing out!

Hi, Ive had the Mirena for 2 weeks now and it has been TERRIBLE, I have had terrible sharp pains off and on... I have never had kids but is a contraction like the pain that I am feeling? My doctor suggested that I have it put it since I felt sick with the pill and specially if I am not ready to have a baby yet. I've been married six months now.... I don't know if this will go away and I don't know what to do, the only thing good about this is that my sex drive is much better, lol... but this is terrible what should I do? Should I have it taken out and will it hurt?

I'm very curious to read all these side effects! I have some strange symptoms going on and it only occurred to me after weeks of them that they may be caused by the Mirena IUD. Apart from constant annoying spotting and a bit of a dull ache in the pelvis now and then, I thought I had no other symptoms but I can see that my fuzziness in the head, low grade anxiety and stress that I've been feeling lately may be related. I've also been ravenous and am putting on weight but can't seem to stop eating junk. My energy levels are low and I have body aches and fatigue and find it hard to work out. But has anyone had achy joints in the hands and feet? .....tight tendons in the ankles & archilles and sore bones in the feet.......a feeling like swelling/tightness in the joints in the hands? I thought I was getting arthritis but maybe it's related to the IUD. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks

This website has been a blessing for me - a person who seemed to feel crazy for all the symptoms I was having. I had mirena put in place in March 2008 after the birth of my second child in December. I was so excited that I didn't have to worry about birth control - I could focus on taking care of my family and work, etc. I couldn't have been more wrong about it. All was fine at first until April of 08 (two months later). I started to notice a red, bumpy rash on the trunk of my body. It progressively got worse with each passing day. It began to look like hives on my legs (behind my knees) and then on the inside of my arms. It has gone all over my back and finally to my face last night. I looked at the mirena website and it said to call your doctor if you had a rash with hives. So I did and they assured me that mirena WAS NOT systemic and couldn't be the problem. They maintained that it was probably an outside source. Instead they offered an anti-depressant. I needed something to help with what I was going through, so I started on Lexapro. That has been the only positive thing that has kept me from falling apart. What's the use in calling them if they don't listen to you? I have finally decided to have the mirena taken out in two days. I am so ready to get back to feeling normal. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there with similar side effects with the rash. If someone would have told me that this was a possibility, I would never have signed up for this!!!!!!
I will post again once I have it out and give an update!!
