I was on the Yasmin pill for 5 months and suffered severe health problems for 3 years. It almost took my life. I actually heard popping sounds in my head when I first went off of it and on it. My symptoms were digestive, head aches, numb limbs, weakness, tired, severe menstrual bleeding, clots, depression, instability, low immune system, heart palpitation etc. In short I was very sick all of a sudden for no other reason than taking this pill If this has happened to you I advise the following which saved me. You need to do the following. Find a doctor that will take you seriously and understand that your problems started with this pill. My OBGYN resisted it for a long time until I was so sick it scared her. Seek an endocrinologist and neurologist if needed. Make sure your blood work checks the following: Any issues with blood clotting including protein c antigen. Mine was low which left me at risk of a blood clot after this pill. Also the pill can lower and this one more than others your b12 levels in your blood which is very dangerous. Research b12 deficiency and see it the pill did this to you. B12 levels should be no lower than 500. Also have your vitamin D levels checked in your blood. This pill depletes b12, vitamin D, causes clotting, affects the liver and so on. It took me 3 years to fully heal. Once I was on b12 shots, Vitamin D daily and had other blood deficiencies corrected after being on this pill I began to get better, but that took 3 years and I was so sick at one point I could hardly do anything and my heart so affected I almost had a heart attack. My blood pressure was uncontrollable. I am currently involved in a class action suit. You can be a part of it too. Good luck with your health first. I can say I am finally on my way back to health fully. Some have not been so lucky after taking this pill, but it took me personally 3 years to get back to the healthy woman I was before this pill. In the process I also lost a pregnancy due to the severe health problems. Don't lelt anyone tell you it is not this pill. If you know it is, no one knows your body better than you!

I had my mirena coil fitted 7 months ago by choice after an early stage miscarriage in April-my second in 15 months. My husband and I decided that we would not go for another baby(we have 3 great kids aged 4-14)and the mirena was the obvious choice.I had previously had the mirena 9 years before with absolute success and only had it removed as it was 5 years old. I experienced all the usual early settling niggles(bleeding, bloating, tiredness etc)but for the last 6 weeks every time i visit the loo there are strandy brown blood clots (old blood)My first thoughts were that the mirena has moved but length of strings suggests not.I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this as i know i did not have this problem with my last mirena?

Understood, at first, I really wanted Mirena to work. When they first put Mirena in, they never mentioned how much it would hurt..but the nurse before putting it in, told me it would hurt worse then it normally would hurt because I have not had a child before. I thought it would be the best form of BC, since my husband and I are not wanting child for along time. The day that i got it in, OMG...The nurse would not let me leave until I turned a normal color. I am normally a very active person, and found it very difficult to exercise or do anything of my normal life. I didn't even try having sex until the third month, thats when the pain form the install stopped. Its been 7 months, theres time you don't get a period which are great, but for the amount of times this abdominal pain i keep having effecting my sex life is terrible. I don't want to have sex at all! I don't even want to talk about it. Doctor keeps saying its not from the mirena, but all these side effects started when I got it. So I am going to get it removed, I have had enough. At this point, I will just have my husband get a vasectomy and call it a day!

I had my demon mirena inserted in July 2004 after the birth of my son. Since then my life has been one nightmare after another. I have had body/muscle aches, swelling in ankles and hands. Slight fever all the time, skin rashes, dizziness, depression, my hair texture changed, insomnia, and night sweats. I was so tired I couldn't even do normal daily activities. My mood swings were so severe I began to think I was bipolar. I have been to about 15 different doctors over the past 4 years and I have been diagnosed with everything from Rheumatoid Arthritis to Lupus to Graves Disease and after finding this blog and others I know realize it's my Mirena! I called my doctor and am having it removed ASAP! She agreed that is was more than likely the mirena that has been ruining my life for the past 4 years. I didn't equate my symptoms with the mirena because they didn't start until about 7 months after I had it inserted. It was SO not worth it. I would have MUCH rather had another child than to go through all this misery for four years. I can not wait to get this thing out of my body.

I got the Mirena inserted on 8-4-08. I had intermittent (on and off) bleeding and spotting. Minor headaches, no depression or mood swings, no acne, major weight gain (but I also self indulge a lot - overeating), no sex drive. I hate Mirena though. Embarrassing foul smell ALL the time. Have to shower 2-3 times a day... I have had intercourse with hubby only once since got it placed!!!!!!!! One diagnosed bacterial vaginosis. This diagnosis came at a time when I hadn't had sex with hubby for 7 months!!!!! Also some pain with intercourse... My husband and I are warned not to conceive at this moment. I was horrible with the pill so this was the best? option.... I wish I could have it removed...Someone wisely said...too expensive of birth control to not to have any desire for sex....

I started Femcon FE about 7 months ago because I needed to start a birth control regimen because I was getting married. I started this pill 3 months before my wedding so my body would have a chance to adjust.
I have ALWAYS had normal and regular periods like clockwork. I've never had any issues with my periods in my entire life, until I started Femcon. The first month I was on the pill was fine...I got my period like normal. The second month my period was horrific....I bled for 13 days straight and had horrible cramps, unlike any I ever had before.
The 3rd and 4th month I skipped my period because of my wedding. I was one of the unfortunate that would have had my period on my wedding day, which is the ONLY reason that I skipped.
I am now in month 7 since I started the pill and it's been 3 months since my wedding. I've yet to have a period at all since the wedding even though I am taking the pills like normal...it's been a full 3 months with no period. I've had light spotting the last 2 months, but absolutely no period. I am getting concerned. What's the deal???? Has anyone else had this problem?

I am 20 years old and had the mirena put in about a year ago. I experienced bad cramping, bleeding off and on, terrible weight gain, and depression. About 7 months after my mirena, I was put on Lexapro for depression. A couple of months ago, I was having severe cramping and I went back to my doctor, they did an ultrasound and found a cyst on my right ovary...I was supposed to go back three weeks later. The next week, I was cramping soooo bad that I called back to the doctor and they did another ultrasound...now there were two cysts on my right ovary. I had laproscopic surgery two weeks ago Friday. During this surgery they found a dermoid cyst on my left ovary they couldn't remove it, so I went for the second surgery last Friday...They had to remove my left ovary and the cyst was the size of a softball. My chances on having children are slim. My mom looked on the internet and found that a lawsuit had been filed in Portland, OR by ATTORNEY ******. They are supposed to be calling us back this week. If anyone is interested, please give her a call. The more we have call this attorney, then we may get a class action lawsuit started.

I have Crohn's disease and have been on birth control since before my diagnosis. I use to have flare-ups of the disease every now and then (I was on Mircette). Then last year, I was put on Nortrel and my disease started acting WAY up. I was put on the NuvaRing two months ago and I am having even more flare-ups now. Is there anyone who has a digestive disease and have had their symptoms worsen with the NuvaRing?

I never thought about the side effects of mirena. I had mine in over 4 yrs. and now I've realized the maybe everything that I've been going through could be because of it. I've been depress, moody, in pain all over and I feel like no doctor knows what is going on with me. I have gain a lot of weight, I'm heavier now than I was at 9 months pregnant. I'm a 36 year old married mother of four, my youngest is five now. My main concern is that lately, I've been feeling this terrible pain on my upper back and neck. I feel my bones crack with every movement, they crack even when I breath. A few weeks ago I went to the doctor and she order an x-ray of my neck and it showed some deterioration of the bones. I've been so worried, even thinking that it could be cancer or something. Now after finding this website I am wondering if it could be the Mirena.

I LOVE MY IUD. For those of you thinking about an IUD, I wanted to post a positive case study. I am sure there are more, but those people don't bother posting. Before I got my IUD, I did extensive research, not just internet or industrial propaganda, but peer reviewed medical journal articles. I decided on the IUD because of efficacy and minimal hormones. The IUD releases a steady amount of progestin that equates to about 20% that of the mini-pill (what breast feeding women take). Even less than 10% of a low dose pill.
I had the Mirena IUD inserted 7 months ago after being on the pill for way too long. I had random cramps for a few months on and off, and had to readjust to being on my OWN cycle vs. the pill. I do get PMS every month, but I attribute that to my own body's cycle, not the IUD. I have not gained a single pound, am on a normal cycle, have minimal bleeding during my period and no spotting in between cycles. My partner and I are thrilled to have this option. Only you know your body, decide for yourself.

I took Wellbutrin 300 mg for two years before to quit smoking and for mild depression. After the initial (weeks 2-4) side effects of nausea, dizziness and headaches - I felt great. Not drugged and not overly emotional. I had been crying all the time and felt hopeless. I felt much better (and didn't want to smoke at all). I quit it for about 2 years and now I am back on Wellbutrin for the last 7 months. I started with Cymbalta - but hated the loss of sex drive (not able to orgasm - so who wants to have sex, right?) and felt drugged. So Wellbutrin was a welcome "old friend" I didn't have bad side effects with switching and have been pretty happy. EXCEPT for the one very scary side effect that I have experienced just a handful of times - but I really am curious if anyone else has had this HEAD TRIP WHILE DRIVING: It has happened when I'm on the interstate and/or bridge when I am driving at fast speeds, and my head feels whoozie all of the sudden and my brain seems to shift sideways - like on a roller-coaster, up and down, sideways - and I am amazed that my hands don't go with it and drive me into the wall! It takes intense concentration and wheel gripping to get myself where I can pull off the road. What the?? I don't want to ever experience this again - but it is so OCCASIONAL. The only variable I can think of is that I have not been faithfully taking the WB at the same time everyday (I'm more and more forgetful) and have skipped a day. Has ANYONE ELSE had a similar experience???

I had Mirena put in about 5 weeks ago to control heavy periods. After about 2 weeks I started experiencing a foggy head feeling and bouts of dizziness. I didn't relate this to anything and thought it might be from lack of sleep. Last week I stated having spells of rapid heartbeat and nervousness that lasted anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 hours. Exercising is out of the question since it makes me now feel lightheaded. I feel like I can't think or concentrate. At first I didn't think the symptoms were related to Mirena, but since I am otherwise very healthy and don't take any other medications, I started doing a search online and came to this website. I called the doctor and told the nurse my symptoms and she called me back to say that they never heard of anything like that and I must have some other medical problem...They insisted it was not Mirena causing the symptoms. I mentioned that my symptoms are actually ones listed by the manufacturer as "possible" side effects. They disagreed with that. Now I'm thinking of going to another doctor to remove it, if they'll do it. Can anyone tell me if they had these symptoms and if they got "better" with time? Or do they just get "worse"..??? If I knew that they would improve I would hold on a little longer. Has anyone had improvement after the first few months?

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same experiences and then I came across here!!! Hopefully there will be someone out there who will be able to relate to me. I had my Mirena placed in August 2008. It wasn't that bad going in, actually went right back to work after that. About a month into it I just wasnt feeling right. In September I tried to get it taken out, but the hospital talked me out of it (military hospital, and said the cost blah, blah, blah, blah...) Well since then my life has been a living hell. It started as a small little headache but has literally grown into a DAILY dizziness and headache "fest" that is so bad that it's effecting my daily life. has anyone had this??? I've had CT scans, MRI's, spinal taps.. All says i'm ok... Plus "foggy brain" to go along with it.

I got finished with the series of shots but now I am having severe pains on the lower left side of my stomach. My friend who is also my age had them too and is experiencing the same problems. We are both 15 and the only other thing we have in common is the fact that we took the shots recently. We went to the hospital and they did a CAT Scan, UA, blood tests, and a pelvic exam on me and an MRI and blood tests on her and all they could come up with was that it seemed like a pulled muscle. If it was a pulled muscle I would think that it would have stopped hurting after 7 months and there is no way that we could be pregnant which is what a person that my friend asked said because we are both virgins, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is a result of the shot and/or if anyone else is experiencing these pains.

I am so glad I found this site. I have been having hideous headaches and just today thought perhaps it's the Simvastatin that I started this summer. I had an occasion this summer where I lost the vision in one eye (half way up). The doctor said that is called "window blind" vision loss. So after doppler and MRI he said I had to absolutely take 81 mg of aspirin a day (baby aspirin) and started me on cholesterol lowering meds. I didn't want to take the cholesterol lowering meds so at first I resisted completely. However, in the past month I have started to take them. Every night I would wake up with a headache and my neck and shoulders were hurting also. I kept thinking that I was going to have a stroke. The pain was so bad I would vomit but the area of the headache was not where I would get migraines. The pain was more in the back of my head and my neck and shoulders. I decided to do some reading on the internet and found that headaches is a major symptom of simvastatin. I will do my own experiment now and stay off of it for 10 days. I will then start it again and see if the symptoms return. My doppler said I had mild build up of plaque...at 57 I would imagine most people of mild build up of plaque. I don't want a stroke or heart attack but I can't live with these headaches and the lack of sleep.

I didn't even think to attribute my loss of sex drive, depression/feeling of helplessness & mood swings to Yasmin but everything I've been reading here are issues I have been dealing with the past 7 months that I did not have before taking Yasmin. I am & was not ever on any other kind of medication.

I am a new poster & am excited to be a part of this discussion !! I feel to close to this discussion because I have been experiencing the same issues.
I too have been having major chest pain issues for almost 2 months now. I started Yasmin (much to my dismay!) about 6 months ago. I haven't taken any b.c. since I was about 19, I am now 30, I started because my periods were absolutely unbearable anymore, intense cramping, heavy flow & in incapable of work/activity for the first 2 days. My doctor always pushed b.c. on me for the pain relief. Finally I agreed. I started in February, 2008.
Almost 2 months ago (7 months into Yasmin) I was getting a bit of chest pain along the ribs/inside of the side of the breast, mainly the right & sometimes on the left. I wasn't too worried as I am a healthy eating, yoga/work-out doing, average weight, no health issues what-so-ever except for my intense period kinda gal. About a month went by with increasing chest pain & I went to the hospital (up north at my moms when I was visiting, only an hour wait to get in as apposed to the 6 here back home!). My fear was heart problems. They did blood work & (I am not sure what this is called!) they hooked me up with tons of little stickies & monitored my heart. - I mentioned to the doctor I was taking b.c. & he said it wasn't an issue, they usually pose blood clot risk....not my issue here.
They said everything was normal & because of the sensitivity of the chest pain (it is sore to the touch!) he said it was costochondiritis, the inflammation of the chest wall. So I thought that was it, I would just take the Advil the suggested 3 times a day for inflammation & it would go away. I did this for 2 weeks & nothing changed.
I was getting some shooting pains in my chest & went back to my doctor, explained my visit up north & what they concluded it was. She said that the costochondiritis has made me sensitive to acidic foods, prescribed me with previcid for a week. That didn't make any difference at all.
Here I am another month later & my chest pain feels worse, my chest still feels tender to the touch, I am short of breath going up the stairs, heart racing/palpitations, gas (burping & passing gas), some upper back ache, I am feeling helpless & beat down !!
By now I'm sure there is a bit of anxiety mixed in there, I have been so sad, scared & worried!
I went back to my doctor & she sent me for an upper G.I. to rule out acid reflux & it came back normal. I also did some blood work again (which have since came back normal) & am waiting for the results. She said she doesn't think it's costochondiritis now. I am scheduled for an abdominal ultrasound & with a cardiologist (I go tomorrow) for an EKG for my heart.
Last night my hubby & I were talking, my co-worker was really upset to hear I've still been taking the pill, she thinks it's poison. I told my guy that & we got out the information booklet from my Yasmin & there were ALL of my symptoms, there was a list of 12 & I had 8 of them !!! No vision or numbness problems but all of the chest pain/breathing issues.
I took my last pill 2 days ago (it was my last before my period) & I have no plans to start again. I am going to follow through with the scheduled appt.'s just in case but my hubby & I have our money on the pill being the cause for all of this.
1 thing that gets me is when I went to my doctors with this issue in the beginning, not once did she bring up the pill or say to stop the pill. In the booklet under all of the symptoms I've been having it says to immediately stop taking the pill. ;(
After taking my last pill I felt a bit better (it's only been a week/my menstruating week), the sharp pain on the inside/side of my breast/chest has not been as sensitive to the touch. I still have had palpitations (minor, not lasting long - to lasting up to 4 hours until I just go sleep to try to get rid of it) & sparse shooting/dull/aching pain in my chest/armpit.
YASMIN SHOULD BE BANNED !!

I've have the Mirena in for about 4 months now. I'm not sure if this is a side affect or not but I've been having horrible hot flashes. They are so bad that I hardly have enough time to get completely ready in the morning. I don't wear make up that much anymore because I'm to hot. My son is 6 months old now so my hormones should be pretty much back to normal. I've had my thyroid checked and it's not that. I've also been having anxiety whick I've NEVER had before. I don't know if that's due to having 3 kids now or the Mirena. Has anyone else experienced these side affects? I also haven't lost much weight since I've had my son which is also very odd.

I am 39 years old. I have been taking Lisinopril for nine months now, for my High BP. For the first 7 months I had not really had any annoying side-effects other than a mild dry cough. But for about the last 2 months I am having a really odd sensation in my heart. It seems like a flutter and it goes across my upper chest area and into my throat. At times they are mild and other times, during a lot of moving around, I have more aggressive sensations. One night while in bed. My wife got her stethoscope out, (she has a medical background) and listened to my heart. She told me not to tell her when I get the sensation, but to let her try and determine when I have the feeling. this nailed it as soon as I had one. She said that it seems that my heart if pumping too quickly. Meaning that I may have a Premature Ventricular Contraction. This has really scared me. I am scheduled to see my Doctor tomorrow. In my last visit which was about 3 weeks ago, I had brought this up to him. He didn't really try to hear my heart on his own. He just listened to what me and wife were explaining about the sensation. I had hurt my leg about the same time this started happening, and I was taking large amounts of Ibuprofen. So he partly chalked up to Ibuprofen and maybe a drug interaction and stated that I lay off the Ibu and see if they go away in 2 weeks. And if not, he wants to do a Holter Monitor on me to see what may be happening. Well they haven't stopped! I am thinking maybe I should ask for a different BP med. I still want to do the Holter to make sure, but I think it may be time for a change. I have only heard of this fluttering feeling happening to one other person. Has anyone else out there had this same scary sensation? if so please let me know what you have done or have found out. Thank you!

2 1/2 years ago I had my Mirena IUD place. I had the normal weight gain and steady bleeding which were side effects I was warned about. Sure enough after 2 months or so my weight returned to normal and the daily bleeding stopped. In fact I haven't had any periods since, which I was really please about b/c that was the reason for having the IUD in the first place. I have 4 children and my husband is fixed, but my periods were so heavy I had a hard time dealing with my iron levels, so the Mirena was recommended. I have raved about not having my period anymore and the freedom it has provided.
However, recently I have been suffering major anxiety, to the point I am currently off work for 4 weeks. I am a stock broker so everyone is convinced its market related. But all along I have said I don't have more or less anxiety if the market is up or down. I just feel as though I have almost in a car accident and my body is in a constant state of "fight or flight". I have been placed on heavy med's to try and correct my current imbalance. These med's are very powerful, for the past 6 days I have been asleep of 17 hours out of 24. Anything this strong is obviously pretty powerful. I have been discussing my current condition with friends and saying my instincts tell me something else is going on. I've been suspecting that something else in my environment could be contributing to my imbalance. So i have been looking into my IUD. My first signs of anxiety were 9 months after having it in, but I treated my anxiety with exercise and healthy living and got on with it. Today I found a website with many women with my exact symptoms:*****
As a mother I have learned to listen to my instincts, and at this very moment I am convinced that my Mirena IUD has over time created an imbalance which is responsible for my current poor health, and tomorrow i'm getting it taken out!

I have been on YAZ for about three weeks. This is my first BCP I've been on. Within a few days of taking it, I got headaches everyday, my moods were up and down, and I got cramps in my lower abdomen. It felt like I was getting my period because of the cramping. This may be a little TMI, but I was horny all the time! Now the thought of having sex bores me. I don't want to have sex, I feel like crap every day, and I'm over all having a bad time on this pill. I'm scared to keep going with it, because I don't want something bad to happen, but I know that with any type of pill, until your body gets used to it, your going to have some weird side effects. Can someone please give me some advice what to do? Should I keep taking it or just stop?

I am 16 years old and i have been on YAZ for almost a year now. I have had horrible luck with it. In the beginning my mood completely changed! i was really mean to all my best friends and parents. I felt like i was bipolar. Im not a mean person and felt horrible about the way i was acting to everyone at the time. i would say "ITS NOT ME, ITS THE PILL"
about 6 or 7 months into the pill my mood swings changed and i felt normal again. but i kept getting constipated, but i never thought it was the pill. i also started to get headaches, but didn't think it was a side effect.
now i am extremely constipated and get severe headaches everyday! i never can think straight and it effects my school work. Being constipated was the worst part of this pill. i ate TONS of fiber and nothing worked. I looked online for symptoms for YAZ and only a couple said they were also constipated. I would be constipated for 1 or 2 weeks straight. this was way worse then period cramps!!!
i also had nausea almost once a week. Its hard to sleep, i sometimes wake up 3 or 4 times a night. I also get sharp shooting pains up and down my legs and arms. (which is a little scary)
Tonight i have desiced to stop taking YAZ. I would rather deal with my periods then have to deal with the horrible effects of this birth control!!!!

I have been taking singulair for about one week now. A few days ago I noticed abdominal and intestinal pain. Last night I got abdominal pain and fever. I called two doctors and they said it was probably not the singulair. But then I read their web-site for side effects. And one is possible intestinal infection with fever. I can't believe this. I don't understand why the doctors would not say anything or take you off of it. Thanks

I had Mirena put in May of 2008! Two weeks later I started losing my hair! I chalked it up to coloring my hair for so many years but after seeing my hairdresser and have her ask me how long I'd been losing my hair because my hair felt so thin to her! She put me on Nioxin hair shampoo she told me it would stop the hair loss. Eight weeks went buy and nothing stopped! I tried to think of what was different in the last 7 months and it came to me, Mirena!! I called my ob and they had never heard of such a thing and I told them it was a side effect! She wanted me to go see a dermatologist to rule out other things but I know myself better, it's Mirena! Thanks for all your info because i now know that I'm doing the right thing,I'm having it removed on1/5/09. I can't wait to see if knee pain and blurry vision go away also! I'm a runner so I always thought it was overusage as for the vision I thought it was just being 44! I'm not looking forward to the pill again!!!!
