ive been on levothyroxine for about 6 years...... for an underactive thyroid gland and i am stunned reading all these side effects as for about 4 years ive suffered from severe joint paint, fatigue ,very low moods , foggy brain, mood swings hair loss, all i want to do is sleep and even then im still tired.
I am 35 and feel about 80 as my back hips legs calfs and feet all hurt so bad.
I have been to the doctors so many times and got no where.
ive been told your in pain because your depressed( who would not be depressed ) but i said i am depressed cause im in such pain.
i remember asking once if it was due to the thyroid or the drug and the doctor said your levels are fine and the drug gives no side effects.
I feel like stopping it right now to be honest.
I only got it after my third pregnancy and i remember reading once it can correct itself as it could be caused by pregnancy ????? any ideas.
ive copied and pasted a lot of these comments and i will be making a trip to doctors to be fobbed off again im sure ....but its worth a try

Hi all, I have used the Mirena now for 6 years! I have never had any problems with the insertion or taking it out as I've just had it changed after my first five years. It was recommended to me by my doctor as a form of birth control and because I used to get bad PMT, for this it has worked a treat. My periods have stopped completely and I haven't bled for the at least the last 3 years, but it's not something that happens over night. However like everything it has it's down sides and now at 31 years old I am suffering with really bad acne and have done for at least the last 2 years, it is really i tchy and painful and really gets me down, I have been prescribed two different courses of antibiotics which haven't worked. I have over this time also gained weight. So after this length of time I am toying with the idea of having it removed, but for me i need to make the decision whether I want my periods back again and no acne or no periods and terrible skin, it's a difficult one, oh to be a woman!!

my 8 year old son was taking singulair and zyrtec for 6 years. I forgot to give him his medicine for a couple of days and noticed how mellow he was. I started thinking about it and realized that it might be the medicine. He was 2 when he started taking singulair and zyrtec so i thought this was just how a boy was supposed to act like, i have four daughters too. He has always had trouble in school just barely passing each grade, his teachers all told me to have him tested for adhd and i knew in my heart he did not have that. the last few months have been really bad with his attitude, yelling, wining, hitting his sisters, and talking back to me like i am a piece of crap. I am so glad i forgot to give him his medicine, he does not take anything anymore. I hope that when all the medicine is out of his system he will be even better.

My 3 year old daughter was put on Singulair for her asthma and supposed allergies. I did not notice any behavior issues, but when I read the very very fine print saying that it could cause stunted growth AND had had no clinical trials in children, I took her off. I have cured her asthma with herbal supplements (a combo that fights bronchial inflammation ans desensitizes the liver to minimize/eliminate allergic reactions - from GAIA labs, look up asthma/bronchitis / allergy). She is now 11 and has not needed any treatment of any kind for at least 6 years now.

I have been on wellbutrin for 6 years. I have had problems with memory loss. This past year it has gotten much worse. I can't remember a conversation I had ten minutes before. I also am not recognizing people. I went to a x-mas party and did not recognize people I have known for 22 years. I thought they were complete strangers.

I was on the Depo Provera birth control shot for roughly 6 years. It did stop my periods but that was the only good thing about this shot! I am now 30 years old and it has been about 2 years since I stopped receiving the injection. My teeth are decaying so rapidly that they chip and break as if they are made of layers (like a flaky biscuit). When I first started the injections my smile was pretty perfect. My diet and daily regimens have not changed so I can only attribute the dental issues to this birth control shot.
I also suffered from lowered sexual drive, depression, mood swings/anxiety and insomnia while on the treatment. After several years of my issues getting worse I linked them to the shot and no longer received the injections. Since then my other symptoms have gone away but the tooth decay still lingers.
Is there anyone else out there with these same issues? I desperately would love to find help or others like myself.

I am a pediatrician and my and I take care of my one year granddaughter is with allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma. In her past history other than her usual problems she developed an episode of ketotic hypoglycemia after a viral syndrome.
I started her in Singular as she was having nocturnal episodes of cough in spite of having Pulmicort twice daily. As soon as she was started in Singulair she developed restless episodes of irritability. She never behaved that way before. She is now sleeping well all night after she had discontinued Singular.

I am 39 years old and have been on Omeprazole for 6 years. I have had the worst year ever. I was always a healthy and fit guy until 2008. I had chronic headaches and extreme fogginess which led to me having an MRI and seeing a chiro(all negative). I had chronic chest pain which led to EKG's, stress tests, ER visits, and tons of blood work ranging from cardiac, glucose, liver, renal, thyroid, etc...(all negative). Did gastroscopy and found esophagitis and gastritis. Upped the dosage of Omeprazole. Then I started getting tremors, muscle cramping, muscle pain, fatigue, blotchy red skin, and continued fogginess and lightheaded.

Did I mention i still have constant heartburn despite all the Omeprazole. I have done everything...tilt up head of bed, bland diet, no coffee or alcohol, no eating late evening etc....

Doctor put me on Fluoxetine (Prozac) for all my stress and anxiety from these crazy symptoms. After seeing this site and reading all your testimonies I am now thinking it is from the Omeprazole!!! Scary thought to stop since my chest pain and heartburn can be pretty severe and constant. What do I do? Feel like I'm caught between a rock and a hard place here.

I have been on Microgestin for 6 years now. I had slight anxiety before I started taking it, now my panic attacks are out of control, I have no sex drive, and I am completely exhausted all of the time. I am only 24! While speaking to another woman at work, she informed me that once she stopped the Microgestin her panic attacks almost diminished completely. Do to my family history, I know that I am prone to have anxiety, but I was diagnosed with Agoraphobia a year ago,I have to drag myself out of bed, and try to work through my panic. I am stopping the pill. It is good to clean your body out for 3 months after being on any birth control pill for that long anyways. Wish me luck!

Hi Ladies, i have been on both yaz and Yasmin for about 6 years. I went off of it about 2 years ago, and i began to get moderate acne on my face and back/shoulders. After 9 months of trying everything imaginable to clear up this problem, i finally went back on the pill. that cleared my skin up but left me with hyperpigmentation. My question is to all of you suffering from the rebound effect of acne: has anyone tried to taper down the dosage of switch to an altogether different pill for a few months and then getting of of it?

I totally agree, most people come to sites like this to complain, if you liked your BC then you would not spend the time to come to a site and say hey I am happy. I have never had a problem and I have used it for 6 years....like I always say, one size does not fit all...find what works for you....there is NO way I can take Oral BC....too many problems, side effects etc...to each their own

I think it is very important to point out that most people posting on here only come with bad experiences, as those are the ones people are passionate enough to write about. Personally, I have been on the Nuvaring for several months now, and I absolutely love it. I experienced no nausea or headaches. The only thing I experiences was mild fatigue for the first month or so, but that resolved itself. I understand that not everyone has the same experience, but just recognize that everyone is always going to have some sort of problem with every single birth control method out there. You will never know what works for you until you try it. I know several women who use the Nuvaring and not one of them has a bad thing to say about it. So really, give it a try!

I'm so glad I found this page. I was prescribed Avelox and Prednisone to treat my sinusitis. I felt nervous the first 3 days but figured it was just the prednisone. After reading this it must have been the Avelox. On day four it was different. It felt like a bad panic attack. Out of body feeling, tingling in the arms with pain in the feet and a general confusion. The feeling of having to run or keep moving around. I was keeping my arms folded because it felt like if I let my hands out they would just start shaking. I'm feeling better now having read this. I feel like calling my doctor and cursing him out. He gave me a coupon with the script which just clarifies how they are being pushed by the drug companies to get this stuff out there. What scares me is the last time I was prescribed antibiotics (6 years ago) for the same thing
at the end of taking them i had developed similar feelings of tingling and confused thought. That led to months of tests for neuro diseases which eventually they told me was from anxiety. The feelings have lingered for the years since but never as bad. Those bad feelings came back again with Avelox which makes me believe it wasn't caused by just anxiety back then and perhaps permanent damage was done. Thanks for reading.

I was prescribed Avelox for bronchitis on Thursday the 6th....not feeling better in 2-3 days fill the Rx. Talked to on call doc Sunday morning, was advised to begin to medicine, plenty of water and rest. As I have a known allergy to sulfa, I confirmed with the pharmacy the RX was okay then took my first dose Sunday evening. Within 30 minutes I had severe stomach cramps followed by sudden and explosive diarrhea. As I was trying to rationalize these symptoms I was hit (and I mean HIT) just as suddenly with racing heart, tingling lips, shortness of breath, tightness in my chest, light-headedness....at this point I yelled for my husband to call 911 before I passed out. As he came in the room, I was on the floor gasping for air...don't remember much in the following events. I know that he administered my epi-pen (I was to disoriented to even think of this**and I have had to carry it at all times for about 6 years due to other allergies) saved my life as my son says EMS/fire /police did not arrive for another 4-5 minutes. This experience scared us all! I have had meds case panic attacks in the past THAT IS NOT what I experienced at all!! This was a life threatening reaction...I agree with the CLASS ACTION SUIT as until reading your postings I could not figure out why 3 days later my stomach still hurts and although the coughing is better my chest still feels like someone is compressing it (I had a chest film to confirm the bronchitis had not progressed * confirmed clear yesterday) and my sleep is totally messed up. I would not wish this on anyone. Thanks for sharing as now I know what is going on.....ALL THIS FROM ONE DOSE......JUST ONE PILL......

I am 45 y/o , and have been on the NuvaRing for 6 years and I love it!! Some months I get a little PMSish but I take Pamprin and it really does help. I have been spotting for a week before my period for several months now. ObGyn said it looks like peri-menopause, so I am going to stay on to help me through, plus the added bonus of helping to prevent certain cancers. I am sorry to hear that others have trouble with this type of BC. I tried pills, several different types and ALL made me sick. Tried IUD and I swear I could feel it in me. I just fold the nuvaring up into a little circle, insert and I don't have to think about it for 3 weeks! ..take it out...and a week later put a new one in. I will never use anything else!!

I took aldactone (50mg / day) for a little over 6 years for the excess hair growth associated with PCOS. It did make the hair issue much better. About a year into taking it I wasn't sure it was working, so I stopped taking it. All my old facial hair grew back while off of it, so I started back up again.

I had no problems with the medication at all - or so I thought. I have had dizzy spells for years, especially after standing up from sitting or squatting, to the point where I would almost fall over or black out. For 6 years I went on like this, thinking it was no big deal until I went to a new doctor and he mentioned that my blood pressure was low 90/60 (Usually the nurse would say "you're BP is low, that's good") and he asked me if I ever got dizzy spells and I said yes all the time. He told me to stop taking the spironalactone NOW because REALLY LOW bp can cause damage to your organs. Now that I have stopped, my face is more hairy but I'm not dizzy anymore.

It works for PCOS, but keep an eye on your BP.

My 11 year old daughter had been seen by a doctor to control coughing and wheezing brought on, I believe, by allergies. When she was 5 or 6 years old, she had an asthma attack and it happened again this year when we could not control the coughing and she was short of breath. That is when Singulair was introduced to her. about 4 weeks after taking medication, her heart started beating irregularly (called heart palpitations), and she was experiencing chest pains. (very frightening for mother and daughter). The Coughing subsided, and she was feeling good prior to the last week, when this started happening. After all the researching, the minor side effect is palpitations, however, how healthy is this and what else is going to pop up unexpectedly?

I used to take Zoloft as a teenager, along with a wide variety of other anti depressants I tried, and it didn't seem to really work. I don't think I was "depressed" back then but the doctors seemed to like to say I was just because I didn't get along with my family.

Forward 5-6 years and a death in a family occurs and I completely lose my mind. Extreme anxiety and depression during those episodes. I got a prescription for anxiety medication which made a world of a difference but I was still experiencing symptoms, and felt very dull and dead every day. My doctor said I am definitely depressed and gave me Zoloft to go back on again. So far it has only made me sick. I feel restless after I take it but not in the sense where I am energized and running a marathon. I'm basically a "dead" restless where I stare off like a zombie and lay in bed wide awake at 4am. Also I feel sick to my stomach. If I end up stopping this medication, it will be because of the nausea. I can't handle it. It makes me MORE depressed to stay up all night thinking and feeling sick to my stomach.

Hi everyone.
I was prescribed prednisone for a hand injury that the swelling would not go down. I took it for 4 weeks. In the end of the first week I started breaking out in a rash that itched like crazy. They were small bumps that had nothing in them and they itched so bad I scratched them raw in my sleep. I informed the doctor about the rash and he told me it was to late in the game to get any side effects. This medicine also caused me to become very irate from any little thing. It also made me to lose my job while under a workers comp doctors care. This was about 6 years ago and I still am battling the rashes. They come and go but when they are apparent they take a long time to go away. I used to heal very fast but now it takes forever for an injury to heal. I have had blood work done and even had my liver checked out. They say I am as healthy as a horse so to speak. The rashes have scarred me all over. The bumps would turn to sores that took about 6 months to heal and they hurt, burned and itched all the time. I tried everything to control the itch and pain. I finally mixed aspirin with alcohol and some lotion together and this helped enough to get a fairly good night sleep as I was becoming exhausted. I am learning to deal with it in time but I will never be the same. My thinking is far from my normal thinking.
I had a list of side effects from prednisone and it was four pages long and the very first one was, Instant Death! The only side effect I was told by the doctor was that I might become easily irritated. In my opinion I think all doctors should give you an option after he has presented you with ALL the side effects of a prescribed drug and let you be the judge if you should take it or not. I now have a different doctor and he has prednisone as a drug I can not take. This medicine might be good for some people but it can have life changing effects for those that can not take it.
I feel for anyone that has had bad effects from it and hope you get over it some day.

I just posted a side effect on the Yaz page. I know all birth control pills are different for everyone but for the most part I had a lot of success on Yasmin. I was on Ortho Tricyclin for about 2 years in my early 20's and started having severe abdominal pain and severe bloating (all over my body). After several tests (blood work, CT scan, ultrasound, etc.) came back normal, I asked my ob/gyn to switch me to another type of birth control b/c I really didn't feel like myself and when your Mom says "You look like a zombie" then you know something is wrong. He gave me a prescription for Yasmin and I had immediate abdominal/bloating relief and felt normal again. I took Yasmin for 6 years and my only complaint is that I got PMDD the last 6 months I took it. I wasn't sure if it had something to do w/ turning 30 or just being on Yasmin for that long or a combination. I saw a commercial for Yaz and asked my ob/gyn if I could try it. The PMDD went away after the second month on Yaz but next week I'm going to try Yasmin again due to side effects I developed on Yaz (no energy, tired all the time, not feeling alert, feeling depressed). I'm crossing my fingers that Yasmin help me feel normal again and not bring back the PMDD.

I know birth control pills affect everyone differently, this is what happened to me. I started taking Yaz in January after being on Yasmin for 6 years (I had severe abdominal pain on Ortho Tricyclin and Yasmin gave me immediate relief. I had PMDD the last 6 months I took Yasmin and asked to switch to Yaz after seeing commercials on it, other than that I had no problems being on Yasmin for 5 1/2 years). The second month of Yaz, my PMDD went away, I felt normal and loved being on Yaz. I haven't had any weight gain, have mild cramping about a week before my period starts and my period is about 4-5 days and I hardly get bloated but I get a severe headache the day my period starts. The last 3-4 months, I've noticed I've had no energy but still try to exercise, I feel so tired no matter how much sleep I get, at times I don't feel very alert and have to focus hard when driving, have bouts with feeling depressed, and occasional constipation. I didn't have any vaginal dryness but often felt like I didn't have the energy to have sex. I had a blood screening last month which came back normal, this month I noticed my hair seems thinner. I suspected Yaz was the problem then I knew for sure after I found this website. My OB/GYN called in a new prescription for Yasmin today, I'm hoping that will help again - at least until I see him in a couple months, and that the PMDD symptoms do not return.

okay ladies, I'm not sure what you all are experiencing since I'm not a doctor. But I will tell you that a huge amount of your symptoms can either be age related or post baby related. I have four children ages 15, 6, 5, 3.
The beginning stages of the Mirena granted are not pretty and can last for months. I was having a terrible time with my periods and was out of commission for the first three days of every cycle each month. I have had my Mirena for almost 2 years now and am going on 41. I had to wait it out for about 6 months before seeing any huge improvements. I will tell you this, over eating and NOT eating a healthy diet of fruits and veggies will aggravate bloating and mood swings. You could have these with or without the IUD. I never lost my hair unless I was 3-6 months post partum.
A diet rich in potato chips, bread, meats and cheesy pizza will show on your hair skin and nails. The typical American diet will leave even your special guy moody. As we age the expectation is that we will always feel 18 and I have had to come to grips with how my body ages and how I take care of it. A new baby whether it is your 1st or 4th will cause unwanted fatigue. I still struggle with fatigue because not everyone sleeps thru the night including my hubby so my sleep gets disrupted a lot. There are several things you can do to help your Mirena work for you and not scare you. I NEVER lose my sex drive unless I fail to exercise even a little each week and have fought back with a super charged diet. I'm not perfect at it but boy does it ever help. Sugar has a HUGE impact on your hormones and fatigue level. Limit it. Got to bed as early as you can and avoid late night TV. Don't give your precious zzz's to some silly show that won't help you be a better person any way. Get moving and add a little (or a lot) of weight training to your days- your sex drive will soar and your body will thank you. Pray for wisdom. God will help. Sometimes he uses fatigue to slow me down and focus on what is really important. Granted not everyone can handle an IUD. But if you try a little self care and be patient you might find that it works for you. I had heavy bleeding and at my age the doc said I got it just in time because from 40-50 I could expect more of the same. I am grateful for it because I felt like I was dying every time I had a period. A little fatigue is worth the benefits. Keep in mind that even your little ones get tired. They need naps and they are kids. We need rest in the afternoons too. It's okay to stay off the phone and rest a little if you can. My energy drainers are TV, negative people, talking on the phone too much, eating too much especially when I'm not really hungry, the wrong foods when I do eat, and not getting sleep or exercise. Start small and see if over time it doesn't make a big difference before you throw in the towel. Blessings to all and especially the new mommies.

About 6 years ago started methadone for RSD 90mg a day with some relief
but was aware of no libido, sweats (thought from RSD), weight gain, lethargy and
speech- thought confusion, dropped to 40mg a day with great difficulty but pain remained pretty much the same, back up to 60mg daily but lethargy, tremors,no libido-- very low testosterone, anxiety over uselessness but methadone is cheap but now is ineffective. Added Ritalin for alertness but when it wears off I must sleep. Also don't like feeling of perhaps requiring uppers.very depressed (over statement) but I take 450mg of Wellbutrin. No end in sight, am 64 and married, wife understands but she is burdened and sad. Evidently no other solution. RSD resulted from coleus fracture 1/02/2001,right hand useless.

Wow. I found this site after looking up causes for lack of sex drive. I've been on Yasmin for 6 years, but never thought for a minute it had anything to do with the problems I've been having. Loss of sex drive, vaginal dryness, hair loss, mood swings (partners always gets the brunt of those), repeated bouts of chest pains (diagnosed with pleurisy recently, don't know if there is a link).

I had got to the point that I thought this is just the way I am, it never occurred to me that something else could be causing this. I can't even remember what it's like to be normal.

I already have 2 kids and don't want any more at the moment so I don't know what the solution is. Well, I haven't wanted sex for the last few years so i suppose the bloody thing has done its job in that way!

I'm just shocked, this has been a real wake up call. I'm stopping taking the evil little things as of now.
