10 months ago I stopped taking a cholesterol lowering drug, called lipitor.6 months ago I was diagnosed with a debilitating statin induced myopathy. Has anyone experienced the same kind of adverse reaction to this prescription drug? Can anyone tell me what I can do to recover from the pain and how long will it take? I've slowly had to learn how to walk again and I continue to have burning pain in my palms of my hands and feet and inside my elbows. What kind of damage has this drug done to my system?
by ttfn - Thursday March 27 at 10:42 PMI had the same experience after taking Lipitor, sent to many specialists, my muscles were so affected could hardly walk, even affected my eyes, & don't forget your heart is the biggest muscle...so this statin drug does damage to this also.. Seemed none of the docs could figure this out, except 1. Suffered for more than a year.
What you can do to regain your strengthen your muscles, is take CO Q 10, at least 150mg a day or 200. A good multi-vit daily, at least 1000mg of Vit E, Plus same of Fish oil & other supplements.
Good food, without preservatives, & don't drink or use any food with ASPARTAME IN IT!! At 86F this stuff turns to Formaldehyde, then to formic ACid, which in turn causes Metabolic Acidosis.
Monsanto is the producer of this terrible stuff, it's now in 5000 of our foods & drink, Congress failed to act to have it removed.
Patients taking any statin are required to undergo liver enzymes tests as well as monitor the dosage of drug intake. I strongly agree with melag on the advice. However if you are a pax that has high LDL(BAD) levels and low HDL(good) levels and also with high TRIGLYCERIDE levels you need to be on a statin permanently, with a modified diet less fats and cholesterols. I would recommend you talk to ur doctor about CRESTOR10mg, this drug is a wonder drug because @ 10 mg, note the difference you would have been taking 40mg LIPITOR, but CRESTOR reduces those levels with 1/4 th the drug amount, keeps in mind the myopathies caused due to high statin intake, further more CRESTOR has been shown to increase the levels of HDL using the 10mg significantly, whereas lipitor reduces the HDL levels at higher doses 40mg and up. So the choice is yours to make ,start eating healthy and then add in any medication.
