My partner insists that he's not drunk & he's just very tired. He has slured speech, incoherent, unsteady on his feet & drops off to sleep in the blink of an eye.
Could it be something other that drink related? or is he just pretending to himself he's ok?
by heleneg - Sunday August 24 at 11:24 PMSounds more like he smoked something, marijuana causes extreme fatigue after a short lived high, where the person can't stay awake no matter what you or anyone does, it may even be both alcahol and a drug. I don't know if alcahol causes people to fall asleep instantly but it can explain the other symptoms. If he falls asleep in the blink of an eye and by that you mean he can't possible stay awake even if he tried to it soiunds like drugs, but if he falls asleep really fast after he lays down intending to fall asleep alcahol can do that.
by crunchies - Monday August 25 at 08:06 PMyou should try one of those at home testing kits. That should give you your answer...
by froglover1069 - Tuesday August 26 at 04:30 PMI'm sorry to hear this....but the way you describe him, It sounds as if he's using drugs, like heroin, like the previous person said, if you have insurance and it covers for you to take him to get tested you could do that, or do one of those home testings, but those you have to mail them. Hope this helps.

by gonah - Wednesday August 27 at 07:31 PMIgnore ALL the previous posts. It IS possible to experience the same symptoms of drunkenness, after being awake for an extended amount of time, like 30+ hours will do it. Slurred speech and everything. DO examine his schedule before making a rash reaction, or judgment. I tend to think it is not alcohol (there would be other indicators - very obvious on the breath, for one thing), or drugs. But would side with the sleepiness/exhaustion/medical problem.
Has he had any (ever very minor) head injuries or blows to the head? Even very routine 'smacks' that are quickly forgotten can cause swelling or bleeding or bleeding that would produce those exact symptoms.
Is he on any prescribed medications? Some of those have side effects similar to those. It is also very possible that may also be having neurological issues, which could be very serious and/or life-threatening if not detected and treated early. I would highly recommend a doctor.
